    Fantastic rundown on the system Dylan. Very well put together! I’ve just picked up the RTK2 base station to use with the Inspire 3 primarily for repeatable move accuracy on film sets and photogrammetry for VFX. Looking forward to learning more about the system. Shame you’re not in the UK as I would’ve signed up for your workshop! All the best!

    So CloudCityDrones has the M3E for about $4600 (with the battery bundle) and the RTK module (not base station) is an additional $709. The RTK bundle with base station, RTK module and tripod is about $9100. The M3E Thermal is about $6,600 but I can’t find if you can add the RTK module to the thermal version or if you would ever want this? Is the extra 2K for thermal camera worth it for a startup mapping company or would the full RTK bundle be the best choice?
    Also, do you plan on having any Texas stops on your upcoming tour? Specifically the Austin area?

    • @DylanGorman
      @DylanGorman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RTK module works on the M3T as well. I don’t know if the extra 2K is worth it but then again I don’t do anything with thermal yet. I would suggest focusing on one part of the market before dumping money into 2 different systems and operating in multiple markets without much experience at all.

      I have a M3T with RTK and there is a thread where I am posting on the DJI forum under the Enterprise 2 thread (because there is no enterprise 3 thread). The 3T's thermal camera isn't very good at all, and it only shoots in JPG, not RAW. The photos are not good. I did a map using FlightHub 2 with the M3T and it came out terrible (blurry)

    Great video, Dylan. A few thoughts wearing my Certified Drone Mapping Scientist hat… there is a BIG difference between the camera positional accuracy and absolute positional accuracy. The 0.1 ft positional accuracy reported only applies to the location of the drone camera NOT the accuracy of the orthomosaic. You would need to use a few check point GCPs to verify the positional accuracy of the orthomosaic, but it is still NOT survey grade unless a licensed surveyor stamps the product as such. All that being said…. Awesome Video!

    I just bought the Mavic 3 (standard) to start my drone business and then DJI released this drone, I kinda wish I had bought this instead, it would have been so much more versatile. Are the batteries the same as the standard Mavic 3? If they are, I could just buy the enterprise version and not have to buy new batteries. I do wish that DJI would release the SDK for the standard Mavic 3 so that I could at least do some basic mapping.
    Anyways, this was a great video (as always). I also like your new video setup, it's quite an upgrade. Thanks for all the hard work you put into these videos, it is greatly appreciated!

    • @DylanGorman
      @DylanGorman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Seth! The batteries from any mavic 3 work just fine with this drone so you don't need to spend extra for a special "enterprise" version". I don't think DJI will ever release the SDK for the regular mavic 3 drones as they want you to pay for the Enterprise since it already has the SDK out. It is unfortunate but there is not much we as consumers can do about it.

    Hey Dylan, great presentation. Could you provide the individual images from the M3E, so we can run it through some other free or almost free software? I believe a solid understanding of CAD and GIS fundamentals would be a huge plus for those entering Photogrammetry and General Mapping. Coordinate systems, map projections, and different datums and geoids can be confusing when working across the country or even state to state. Only Rami T can speak of absolute accuracy with his extensive background as a surveyor. Dylan, be very careful if you do work in North Carolina. The best FREE GIS software to use with these different files types is QGIS. It has really come a long way in the last 15 years and is available for most operating systems including Linux. Cheers.

    I am in a research group using drones to do photogrammetry. We are looking to get away from having to place ground reference points by using an RTK drone. Our group has a Matrice 300 RTK that we bought principally for flying a ground penetrating radar. We don't yet have a camera for the Matrice 300. To get RTK geotagged photogrammetry images, we are considering either buying DJI's P1 camera for the Matrice 300 or buying a new Mavic 3 Enterprise or a Mavic 3 multispectral drone. Lots of thoughts on my end! P1 is great for high resolution. There is also an option to get a Sony camera that is 61mp and is about the same cost as the p1. The M3E is great for its portability and camera quality is great!

    Nice video. I’ve tried using drone link with property scanning and I’m trying to figure out where to take all the photos from my scan and put them into a 3d model, however I don’t have the most money to spend on all the good programs out there. Any suggestions for a cheap program that can put together these scans? As of right now I’m a hobbyist but I plan to take this more seriously in the future.

      Sorry for the late reply. Since P4P RTK is EOL I would not recommend it plus its not getting any future support. jumping to the M3E will get you longer flight times, better quality of data and overall a drone that is smaller and quicker at mapping. No need to get old hardware.

    Is the enterprise RC compatible at all the the Mavic 3?

  • @JReinhoud
    @JReinhoud 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just curious, how is that acurracy calculated? How do you know you are x mm wrong, and if you know that, why not change the model x mm?
    I can understand that better gnss acurracy, will help with processing speed, but at the end of the day it is still image stitching and calculations, in other words: filling gaps, the drone didnt actually measure from

    • @DylanGorman
      @DylanGorman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the base station that the drone receives its "corrections" from is how the accuracy is measured. The base station gives its exact postion where the drone is relative. The base station then will tell the drone where its actual position is, the only reason its not perfect with zero margin of error is just due to it being in constant movement. If you were to use GCP's to correct the position accuracy then thats how a shift in x mm happens. You can't just move it without knowing where to move it to if that makes sense.

      @@DylanGorman I'm in Florida so the RTK is only $700 for the reciever and I can use the Florida Permanent Reference Network. • @DylanGorman
      @DylanGorman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sharroff1 I understand what you were asking now. I think if you needed more image quality then you jump to the M300 drone and pair with with either a P1 from DJI, a Sony A7R4 setup or go all the way to the Phase One for extreme resolution. Other than that your GPS accuracy will be pretty much the same between both platforms with RTK. You could also go the PPK route for an even tighter margin of error on your GPS accuracy but that's just an added step in the process.

Other than the one project it has been just personal use. I do not know about the mechanical shutter but I will now investigate that. The RTK is excellent and connects to the NTRIP from everywhere I have been. The Autel smart controller acts as the base unit. It is easy to fly, long battery life, Ludicrous Mode for 42 miles an hour. I think the flight range is overstated. When I talked to them about it they said you need to attach a larger antenna to the smart controller and the range is unlimited. They have the NEST module for remote landing and charging.
