    Making an update here to address a handful of comments that I have been receiving on this video. What I am showing you in this video is specifically a workaround for the DJI Mini 4, DJI Air 3/3s, and ANY DJI Mavic 3/Classic/Pro/Cine line. If you own a DJI Mini SE/2/3/3 Pro or DJI Air 2/2s or Mavic 2 Pro/Zoom, then use software like Litchi/ Drone Deploy/ Drone Link/ Map Pilot Pro. These other options are either free or have a 1 time cost. There are no "lies" in this video, it is specifically aimed towards the newer DJI drones that have released that do not have compatibility with the other software that I just mentioned. I hope this clears up any confusion.

      I have a DJI mini 4 drone with RC2 controller and I could not get the route map to load into my controller. I could not find a way to exit the DJI application, the icons you show in the video are not there on my unit, and no back button, I tried them all. I also tried to hook the controller up directly to a computer via USB-C as suggested by some and that does not work either. Any ideas on the RC2 controller to make this all work?

      In case of low battery in the middle of mission, what happens? Will it return to the home point for me to change battery and continue the mission ?

  • @stefanwoermcke6828
    @stefanwoermcke6828 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +123

    Actually there is no need to do a flight to get the basic waypoint mission (at least for the RC2 controller): 1) turn on the controller (no need to start your drone) 2) click on „connection guide“ 3) click on „camera view“ and from there just hit the waypoint mission symbol on the left side. Now change to the map view, click on two random spots on the map, and save your waypoint mission - that‘s it!.
    Another important thing: in your case you only have one waypoint mission (the one that you created). after a while you may have multiple waypoint missions, and that‘s the part where it get‘s tricky: now you have multiple folder with cryptic names in the waypoint folder, no reference to the name you gave for your waypoint mission! How to find the correct folder from here? Just check the creation date, and then you have it!
    Hope this helps for the people new to this process (I did this process multiple times, after a while you get used to deal with this strange folder structure 😉 )

      @ no, he is actually getting out flying his drone, marking two spots to create his waypoint mission. The way I do it: sitting in my living room, turning on the controller (and only the controller, NOT the drone), and create the basic waypoint mission with the controller. No need to fly your drone to get this done

    A little tip I learnt using a free trail of drone deploy, when the trial runs out it’s only a restriction from imagine processing and on. You can still use the app functionality to plot the flight path, perform the flight path and capture the images, then You can use the images in reality capture.

    Connecting the RC2 via USB-C to your computer will shortcut few steps. You can first go into the waypoint folder of the RC2 and copy the filename, you rename the one on your local drive, then copy and paste (override) your renamed .kmz file on the original controller's folder

    So... I want to weigh in... The flight mission plan site works very well. Highly recommend investing in the very small monthly fee to access more features and controls for your mission plan creation. I tested it. It does much of the same thing that Drone Deploy does except a bit more intuitive. Getting the mission to your controller is a bit more work, but once you get it there the mission is pretty easy. Once you've completed your mission you now need to find a good map generator.. This is significant because it's a viable way of getting around DJI's refusing to release the SDK for the Mavic 3 non enterprise drones..

So don't be surprised if this is patched within the next set of updates.

      That might be a question for the software that stitches the images together. It might support multiple folders or a way to combine or rename images into one folder. Since it’s only looking at images I’m guessing it’s just stitching them together and using the parallax differences to come up with the 3D interpretation.

    • @Toramt
      @Toramt หลายเดือนก่อน

      These tools do not support interrupting / resuming missions w/battery changes; so you'll have to plan multiple missions to get the coverage then stitch together the resulting images. The stitcher doesn't really care how the images were acquired. If you regularly need missions of that length you're probably in the territory of more purpose-specific drones that have software that can handle multi-stage missions.

Would that impact the photos/photo-taking process/outcome?

    • @WhiteSquirrelAM
      @WhiteSquirrelAM 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Since I do not see a response from the OP, I will tell you how I overcome this concern. You lose a little autonomy, because you have to monitor the flight a bit more. As the battery is getting closer 12%-15% you will need to know which waypoint your on. You have 2 options... 1. If your able to land the drone in the area your mapping and have easy access to that spot. 2. RTH and swap batteries, this will take more time away from actual mapping. Once back in the air, select the waypoint map and then select the waypoint to start from. It does not need to be the first waypoint. You will end up with some duplicate photos, but the rendering software will not be affected by it.

    Thanks a lot for this very interesting video! One question: Is the 3D-model-quality you get out of your images (I used your images and reproduced what you created) the maximum or is this just what you get with standard settings? I´m completely new in this topic but I expected a more detailed model. And another question please: what is the reason to use the camera 90 degress and downwards and not for expample 45 degrees? Especially the vertical walls are not very detailed and more another angle could help?

    OK, I've found the workaround for the RC2 not showing access to the files. I have a mac, so I use Android File Transfer, a free app, to get access to the files. You have to open the app up while the RC2 is connected to the mac. Navigate to the waypoint mission folder as Dylan showed. Drag and drop your new KMZ file INTO the dummy waypoint folder. Copy the name of the dummy KMZ and then delete the file. Paste the cryptic name in the kmz you want and that's it!

  • @NilsTillander
    @NilsTillander 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Maybe you could have mentioned the limitations of this approach, in particular the maximum number of waypoints (which forces you to only have each line edge, leading to the weird wavy flight). Also, those drones don't have a global shutter, so it's nice to remember that you'll have rolling shutter effects that may or may not be an issue depending on cases.

      @WhiteSquirrelAM 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Since I do not a response from the OP, I will tell you how I overcome this concern.

      Connecting the RC2 via USB-C to your computer will shortcut few steps. You can first go into the waypoint folder of the RC2 and copy the filename, you rename the one on your local drive, then copy and paste (override) your renamed .kmz file on the original controller's folder

    It’s just cresting a DJI KMZ file, and it’s very limited but good for people to know. Map Pilot Pro can do this much much easier for the Mavic 3 Pro, Classic, Air 3, Air 3S and Mini 4. All you do is set to your aircraft in the settings whch will be for export only. I use my iPad to set it up and once you save it the map will be automatically placed in the DJI Fly app. There is no fussing to transfer the file or other stuff to get it into the Wayline Folder. I set up the plan on my iPad and it’s very, very easy. Enjoy.

    It was an absolute disaster trying to do the mapping. I have a Mini 4 Pro, and it was impossible to see on my RC 2 controller screen the area where you view the files inside the drone or the card. Finally I understood I have to connect the control via USB to the computer.
    On the other hand, in the WaypointMap program, it only allowed me to download the file named *output.kmz*, unlike what you show in the video where you can give it the name you want.
    I think it’s important to clarify how to do this with a Mini 4 Pro since it’s completely different from what I see in the video.
