Totally agree, the second dr has always been my favourite, so glad they’ve found/animated most of his missing run. Look forward to the day I can watch his three seasons gap free!

I was at a convention last week and saw a panel with Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul mcgann, and Sofie Aldridge. Of course they got asked which Doc was their favourite. Colin Baker spent some time to praise the 2nd Doctor. He argued that if the first regeneration failed the series would have died.

During the late 80s(starting 1986 summer). It was my first foray of Who.
This quaint channel in New York USA was running it on weeknights and Friday nights later on with Blake’s 7.
Though Troughton’s tenure was ruined by episode theft and destruction. The American fan base and the tv channels would do conference and interviews with Troughton until his untimely death which his obituary was focused. I didn’t know why a plaster of 1920-1987 meant but I found out later in 1990 that he is no longer with us.
Everything Tom Baker. Sylvester McCoy or Tennent/Smith do to make their Doctor shine. It was all started with Troughton!!!

The Second Doctor definitely had an impact. His was the incarnation that really went into the whole "fighting evil" thing in earnest, becoming the primary protagonist of the series. A lot of his characteristics got carried forward into subsequent incarnations as well.

Imagine if he'd lived long enough to do Big Finish stories.

Excellent analysis! I agree that had Troughton not worked Dr Who would have been a short lived show indeed! 👍

Back when the Doctor played a recorder,
Shame there was no video recorder!

Loving these documentary style videos of Who great work. Troughton was an absolute genius as an Actor. One of the if not the best Opening Doctor Story which had to be pitch perfect to keep the show going

I agree. But then I might be biased as Troughton was my doctor as a boy, though I remember from Galaxy Four onwards.
