New neighbor stops by to say hello.... Neighbor: Hi there. You getting it fixed alright? Cameron: perturbed because he is being interrupted because gearheads hate to be interrupted when wrenching unless it is a naked woman demanding sex... Cameron: Hi homie. Nice to meet you. I am not fixing it per se. I am modifying the car. Neighbor: Huh? Why in the world would you modify an automobile? Sounds complicated. Cameron: Not everybody likes to lead a pedestrian life and follow the path of lemmings that only do what others dictate. I pulled the digital fake sound module also. Neighbor: Sound module. What the? Oh, gulp, I never thought of that. I only do what my wife tells me. I can't even use a pair of pliers and never really had a man card. I cry when I get a paper cut. Cameron: Maybe you could hold the camera for me in the future and bring me a beer when I am finished. Nice to meet you.

take the BRZ to an autocross event, this way you can drive the car to its limits in a safe environment and not too expensive. Also, get an alignment after lowering the car.
im using this type of coil overs but for the 10th gen civic... makes a real difference. lowered it a bit only compared to stock as daily driving and set the hardness to the middle... been on it for 2 years now and really transforms the car handling. less body roll and car feels more planted.
I lowered my 9th gen si with springs and I loved the way it looks. My first lowered car too and at first when I started scraping I almost didn’t like it and I was going to go back. But now, I’ve gotten used to it and I just try to avoid it. Love the way it looks. Can’t wait for the next episode
Nice! But just a tip bro. Never use a Torq wrench to break bolts. Torque values change when you do that and sometimes doesn't work anymore. Nice video!
Loved this video, reminds me of my first time doing some serious work on a car. Things I recommend are a good battery powered impact to make removing bolts and nuts faster, and jackstands to put the car on so you can use the jack to hold suspension up for coilovers install. Also relying only on the floor jack to hold up the car is generally bad practice, as the hydraulics in the jack could fail at any time.
19:32 Both. I was shaking my head wondering why it took you 3 days to do something that would take me 3 hours (granted that's if no bolts strip due to rust lol). But then you said you had never done this before, and I remembered my awful first time. Watching you learn through the process and doing it on your own, successfully mind you, for the very first time was pretty neat. I'll tell you straight up, I had to have my dad help me through everything in the beginning because I was hopeless. Stripped bolts, broken parts, not being able to get the holes to line up. But with lots of time and practice (changing out so many different parts), I learned how to do it all on my own, in a timely manner. It's all a learning process, just like everything else. The more you do it, the better you're gonna get at it. Great video, and sweet car.
Loved the video Cam! It looks great man. I lowered my 06 Mustang about 7-8 months ago, and I’ve loved every bit of it so far. As you’ve seen, with lowering your car you get the reward of the awesome aesthetics as well as the performance boost they give when taking turns quickly! As you mentioned, scraping is always a possibility, however, over time you’ll learn certain spots you need to avoid and honestly, just going slow over inclines and taking them at an angle one wheel at a time goes a long way! Because you’re so low to the ground and because these performance suspensions are meant to be more stiff than stock, you’ll definitely notice an increased road feel, which can be great for joyriding, but sometimes it can be annoying feeling every bump and crack in the road when daily driving. But hey! Coilovers are for fun not comfort haha. Keep up the good work man!
Congrates! Lowered over a dozen cars. If you like BC coilovers, you'll love KW, Bilstein, Ohlins, Koni. BC are just ok in my experience. My favorites have been KW. Now for an alignment!!
I lifted my truck 6". Never had done anything like that before either...lemme tell ya, cutting into your frame with a Sawzall will make your butt pucker! Nice job brother!
No joke this is the best step by step coil overs swap for beginners; I appreciate how in depth you went on every bolt, it's good for people like me that don't modify car so often......and I'm sure other beginners will enjoy this to!!!!!
I can appreciate lowered cars, my last two VWs were lowered. It's definitely worth it to get rid of fender gap, and if using the right setup, you improve ride and handling characteristics. Well done Cameron.
SOOOO Happy for you man. That was really cool. I apprecaite the realistic weekend mechanic's experience you provide. Looks great, and I'm sure you'll find that perfect balance for the dampers as you drive it more. Great vid
Nice vid. Next is the brakes. That is one of the biggest weak points of these cars, they come with very weak brakes from the factory considering these are meant to be momentum, handling HPDE type of cars. Don't forget to do the stainless steel lines when you get the new brakes, most kits come with them included but just double-check.
I'm laughing and crying this whole video I'm a technician so I know the pain and how much harder your doing things but we all got to learn.. and I love the just loosen the bold while your looking at a nut its just great can't wait to put some suspension on my 2022 brz
not a tech here but i've been working on cars a long time and holy fuck I couldn't agree more. It's great to see... we've all been there and when he comes back in like 4 years he's going to laugh so hard at it
I always say, the best time to meet the neighbor is when you're working on your car.👍🏻😏 Btw, congratulations on doing the suspension yourself, and the car looks great. Waaaay better. That BRZ comes with a lot of wheel gap. Lowering is a must.🚘👈🏼👍🏻
Get a second jack a cheap ass one, it helps with jacking up the brake rotors to help you get bolts in. Helps me out a lot because my car has air suspension struts which I’m constantly taking in and out for fitment reasons.
Looks great man!! Cars always look better lowered. You should take it and have it corner balanced by a shop that knows what they’re doing and let them dial it in for you and make them adjusted the best way for your driving style. That will get the best out of a nice set of coilovers like the BC Racing ones you’ve got.👌🏽🔥🔥
DUDE! Thank you so much for posting this video and keeping everything raw. I hate when I'm following a youtube video and something goes completely south from what you're watching. Being in a similar boat as you which is new to working on my car, I always feel like I seriously messed something up. I'm looking at getting a 2023 GR86 in a few months and I can't be more excited! This will be one of the first youtube vids I come back to when modding the car. Keep up the good work and keep posting mod videos!
I just went through this process for the first time as well with RCE Yellow Lowering Springs on my 2020 BRZ - and my first time taking wheel off my car as well!! haha- first time for everything. Lowering Springs was a total B - cos had to compress the springs and remove from the struts etc
Good on you for being honest with how long it took you. To give some advice you should go to Harbor freight and get some cheap impacts, shortens the time of everything
Car supported with jack stands instead of the jack itself frees up the jack. Then you dont have to hold up the whole rear spindle. Just jack it up into position.
Looks great! Did you need to get an alignment? Did you get control arm bushings returned since you changed the geometry and those bushings will always bearing that tension. Bushings is part of reason I am not touching mine…
I drove my car without a wheel alignment for a good week. Its driveable just one problem, you have to turn your steering wheel a bit on the side to keep the car straight lol. So technically you can its just it could be dangerous if you're unaware that your car is going a bit to the side.
I remember hanging my first suspension… took me the whole day and j was so long on how to remove some bolts. It’s very common to have to drop most of the crossmember or subframe so the bolt can come out
Yo the music at 2:00 slaps! I'm enjoying your content man, going through all your BRZ videos. Good stuff. Ordering a 2023 in the exact same spec as you. Your car is beautiful. Hope you are enjoying Florida!
Hey big fan! I would recommend an alignment at Dealer(highly recommend) after lowering ur car. I do work at dealer and we get a lot of modified cars and always ur alignment is off center due to lowering. Just my thought on my experience
You did it!! Looks 👍🏽 great. We had a hell of a time lowering the SI. The 2 fronts were really hard to get in there. But it’s done and the car corners like it’s on rails.
You did a great job lowering it, almost making it look easy to us Joe's that wouldn't dream of attempting this stuff. Tbh though, I don't think I'd ever lower my car given that I live in the land of potholes.
Really cool video. Just a good advice, get some good jack stands and use them to hold the weight of the car after you jack the vehicle up. It is super unsafe and dangerous to let the hydraulic jack hold the car while you go under it, you don’t want to get killed by your car, remember safety first. 😎👍👍
damn ur reaction to first time driving a lowered car. ive never driven a car with coilovers either, but you're making me excited and really want to get a set and install them on my is300
not too big on cars that are lowered but the brz looks way better. love the vids cam. also when you knocked on wood and ended up knocking on your tree, something I would do 🤣🤣🤣

Love the videos Cameron, the Type R brought me here but I'll watch whatever you put out. As I've said before I rarely comment, But I'm always watching from start to end.
Don't know if you did this, but the bolts holding the rubber bushings on each end of the rear control arm needs to be tightened when the car is on the ground (at ride height). If they're tightened while the car is in the air, and then lowered, the bushings will be under tension and will be worn out prematurely. I found this video explaining why: /watch?v=QksCa9rSwTs

noohh, don’t use torque wrench to break bolt lose, get 1/2” impact wrench, you’ll enjoy more working on cars with good power tools.. 👍🏻
Or if not power tools, a nice breaker bar will do it. Should’ve seen my face when I saw a torque wrench was used to break a nut.

springs for the Type R. Sure, it'll wear out the struts at an increased rate, but I will be able to keep the magnetic ride functionality

When you lower the type R do a install vid if you get soon sport springs thier is no install vids on TH-cam

great video! Did you ended up lowering more?
Don't know if you did this, but the bolts holding the rubber bushings on each end of the rear control arm needs to be tightened when the car is on the ground (at ride height). If they're tightened while the car is in the air, and then lowered, the bushings will be under tension and will be worn out prematurely. I found this video explaining why: /watch?v=QksCa9rSwTs
