If you use one pedal driving, you need to turn it off and use the brakes once in a while to scrub the rotors. Also, the front brakes do most of the work, so the back brakes don’t do much at all on the Mach-E unless you really smash the brakes.

Another nice update on the Mustang Mach-E. My auto wipers have worked great. I guess I would have to see what yours are doing to see if how big of an issue it is. The brake pad issue is definitely out of the normal. I haven't seen that issue before on the Mach-E forum or in my own experience. But I also put over 20,000 miles in my Mach-E in a year 😅. I totally would have understood your hesitation to get the Mach-E standard range if you knew about the max charge speed. Once again, glad it hasn't been an issue. I know Ford push out an update to fix the high voltage junction box issue but that is the one thing I'm still somewhat concerned about on my Mustang. I don't push mine too hard but I really wish Ford did a proper part replacement for them just in case.

It looks like the NHTSA is investigating the fix so hopefully Ford does a proper part replacement for yours. Thankfully ours I think just barely made the cutoff for the new box since ours completed production in June and the recall only goes into May.
The Mach-E is really cool for sure. I think it’s a really good vehicle for now, but I’d be a little concerned that when there are more electric vehicles there won’t be enough infrastructure to reliably be able to drive long distances as there won’t be enough charging stations to fill the demand.
Thousands of new charging stations are coming online every year, and with the recent slowing of EV demand, I don't think charging will have a problem keeping up with EV sales at the current rate.
Rust builds up on the rotors if you use the 1Pedal driving. Then when you use the brake pedal, the pads scrub the rotors. This scores the rotors. It happened to me in my 2021 Mach e. So I rarely use the 1 Pedal drive.
I ordered a Mach-e in July of 2023. Have not heard a word from Ford and it is mid October. I did research soon afterwards and decided to test drive a Tesla Model Y. Ordered one August 8 and it arrived Aug 28th! IMHO is a better vehicle other than the looks. I am now driving a Model Y Performance with FSD and probably will never look back
The phone thing is not isolated to Fords. My son-in-law has a new Chevy that insists on connecting to my daughter’s phone even after his was set to favorite. My ‘19 Edge doesn’t have the issue. I set mine to primary and it connects me first always.
THIS is why I lease cars. Had a great CRV... except sometimes the transmission would slip. I could never replicate it for the dealer or a mechanic, but I KNEW something was off about the car.
Anyone purchasing a car expecting it to maintain or increase value is in for a big surprise. That's not an issue related to EVs specifically. Yes, the used prices for EV's are down but part of that is related to how fast the technology is changing. Either way, cars hardly ever increase in value over time. We are about to turn in our EV off of lease and will probably purchase a Mach-E this round instead of going with another lease because we plan on keeping it long-term (10 years plus with any luck). The resale value isn't a negative in my eyes but maybe that's just my specific use case. Anyway, great review. Thanks for posting this.
You’re not the first reviewer to mention the phone connectivity issue. Another TH-camr mentioned that it’s especially heinous when both (connected) drivers are in the car at the same time. He mentioned that it has happened several times during road trips when directions were paramount at the time. That sucks and I hope Ford is listening.
Stuff like if you don’t drive your car the right amount your brakes destroy themselves is what led to Ford apologizing to share holders for how much it’s losing in warranty repairs with the promise of doing better , I never thought I’d see ford collapse like this. I was watching a TH-cam video on my phone in my office today when my husband left the house to run errands, my video suddenly cut out and I realized it was cuz my phone was connecting to the car even though he was SITTING IN IT 😆. I've actually used the voice feedback option in the car to leave feedback asking for a default/priority phone setting. You should do the same. Maybe one day in 2025 they'll get to it...2.5 years in and theyre still working on Dog Mode so im not holding my breath haha. We also did Ford Options but honestly there's nothing else out there that I want that's better than the Mach-E, and prices are so much higher now for new EVs than they were a few yeara ago (after incentives we only paid $45k for ours) that we may just buy out the options balloon payment and keep it a few more years.

I thought only the selects had lower charge speed of 115kw? Looks like you have a premium and they should be 150kw. Max ive got has been 164kw on a trip this past spring.
For a 48k car, I would expect things to work a lot better but Ford is a car manufacturer first, software developer never. I've own a Tesla and drive a Mach E. Enjoy the drive better in a Mach E but the software can use some refinement. If history is to show, Ford will likely not do much past the introduction of their next iteration
Yeah, we liked the Mach-E better for the Apple CarPlay, having a gauge cluster, styling, and better fit and finish and quality than Tesla. We never considered the Tesla at all.
As far as your phone connection issue it might not be the car I think it could be the phone because this isn't just an issue with Ford's Sync 4. The exact same thing happens with VW where it will chose a second phone even if it's nowhere near the car & your are correct, there isn't a way to say who's primary or secondary, at least none that I've found. The easiest way to clear it out is to plug it in then the next time you get in it should pick it right up. The part where the manufactures need to improve is to be able to select which is the primary, secondary and so on.
I agree with you it’s better to lease a electric car because back in May my dad got his very first electric car. A 2023 Kia Niro EV because he originally wanted to buy it because he did not want to lease again. After leasing his cars for many years. But he did it anyway because it was cheaper. And plus with new electric cars coming out every year with even better battery technology and other great technology. It’s always better to lease if you get a electric car.
Whether you have drum or rotor, brakes is not that relevant whether it’s a gas or EV. Sure they might not be used as much on an EV but the tolerance for the brake pads against the rotors is so small that you don’t need to press the brakes just to clean rust off.
Great review Matt good to see these. Having had it and all as an owner gives the insight. I think you should get the new Landcruiser for safety of your family. Overall in the past year, never having to go to a gas station and only doing DC fast charging on rare road trips means that I have spent far less time "refueling" than any gas vehicle. And even on those road trips, there is no delay if you plan your stops around bathroom/snack/meal breaks.

The drop in value is the economy, not Ford. You overpaid for it a year ago, everyone who purchased a vehicle (myself included). It is what it is. Nothing you can do about it.
The value of EVs in general has dropped quite a bit more than gas engine cars. This is mostly due to Tesla dropping the price on their vehicles by 33 percent.
@@LeadfootLou it has NOTHING to do with Tesla, but everything to do with the economy in general. No car holds its value, this is nothing new. People has to jump on the train and buy EV’s when the prices were insanely high, thats the price you pay when you don’t pay attention to the economy. In some cases some people need to purchase a vehicle at an in opportune time, but most of these TH-camrs had to jump on the bandwagon and buy a vehicle at over inflated prices so they could make videos, and now look….. My best friend has a Tesla for the past four years. He had three recalls of different things and at least three other times they’ve had to come to his house to repair things. Just because Tesla was the first doesn’t mean it’s better than everybody else’s brand.
Why do people who barely drive buy electric to begin with? Makes zero financial sense whatsoever. If you are barely driving, you are barely using gas, so how is an electric vehicle benefiting you in any way? Realistically it’s not. You paid more for and EV, you pay more for insurance, you pay more to register the car in your state. So you aren’t paying for gas, is it really worth paying more for everything else just so you’d an say look at us we have an EV? Oh wait, you’ll say you don’t have maintenance costs, well there is that, but then again if you aren’t driving your ICE vehicle you don’t have the maintenance costs either.

Ford needs to get the phone to connect to the car walking up to it and getting in as smoothly as Tesla has it figured out sometimes my Tesla has issues connecting to my phone and using it as a key but nowhere near as much as the mach e
WHY WOULD THE FORD DEALER GIVE YOU NEW PADS AND CHEAP OUT ON THE CHEAPEST PART, THE PADS ??? DEALERSHIPS SMH.
I’ve still never seen one of these on the street.
I thought only the selects had lower charge speed of 115kw? Looks like you have a premium and they should be 150kw. Max ive got has been 164kw on a trip this past spring.
No, it’s a limitation of the small battery pack we have. We have a standard range premium.
It’s not the trim level it’s the battery size.
Are you glad you bought the ford VS a Tesla model Y if that’s the equivalent?? And why??
Yeah, we liked the Mach-E better for the Apple CarPlay, having a gauge cluster, styling, and better fit and finish and quality than Tesla. We never considered the Tesla at all.
@@MattMaranMotoringso I guess you drove the Kia EV 6, and Ionique 5. When a reviewer owns the car says a lot about the Mach E👌
What were you doing in Columbus?
Went to the zoo!
It looked dated to me before production started. Interior is nice.
Neutral for downhill driving? But there's a brake pedal
Drum brakes are probably a logical transition for rear EV wheels, despite the cosmetic regression.
Your precious daughter and wife will love it, can do road trips and will hold value (we hope). I’m keeping my 2021 Landcruiser Heritage edition however 😊
Time to sell but keep Bullitt!! I noted the price drop around me on Mach E.
The new Land Cruiser is cool, but the Mach-E gets top safety marks and is 5,000 lbs, so I'm very happy with it's safety for the family :)
I still remember where I was when you said you got a Mach E. It was a stab in the back for the gearbox community. Still heartbroken about it. 😁 but foreal there are so many better options out there. Ford has been going downhill with quality and customer satisfaction
6k driving isn't anything that's basically a new car still.
Mass market cars depreciate. That's 2hat they do.
Matt’s kinda pissed about the phone pairing thing
Is it just me but why would you want to stop and wait for ur car to charge when getting gas takes 5min.. seems like we're going backwards to me.
Because gas is 4.00 -5.00 bucks a gallon
@XX-th3mp yeah, but your time waiting for it to charge is costing you more than the cost of gas.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 not when the charging time is about 5-20 minutes. Some folks don’t need to charge to 80-100% but a suburban cost 100 bucks to fill up minimum.
Most of us are wasting LESS time by avoiding the gas/DC fast network all together. The beauty of refueling at home.... where the electricity is.
Exactly what @wzDH106 said. Overall in the past year, never having to go to a gas station and only doing DC fast charging on rare road trips means that I have spent far less time "refueling" than any gas vehicle. And even on those road trips, there is no delay if you plan your stops around bathroom/snack/meal breaks.
Nice Matt. If we lived closer I'd tint your side windows while we hang out
I appreciate the offer!
beautiful car, and well made unlike tesla trash
Mach e is a good looking crossover. But model y is better at everything else. Price now. Range. Tech. Updates. Charging infrastructure..etc. you name it. Good luck.
New cars depreciate unfortunately.
That was just bad brake pads.
CARS ARE USE ITEMS SO THERE WILL ALWAYS BE "CHECK UP'S". REGARDLESS OF YOUR DRIVING STYLE OR LOCATION, ITS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO INSPECT YOUR VEHICLES CONDITION AS IT NOT ONLY FOR YOUR SAFETY BUT EVERYONE ELSES AS WELL. LONG LIVE I.C.E. ENGINES AND CAR ENTHUSIASTS NEED TO PUSH FOR HYDROGEN..WITH HYDROGEN WE GET TO KEEP ALL WE LOVE ABOUT CARS ALL WITHOUT GREENHOUSE GASES.
EV values have crashed. For them though, they made a buck or two on TH-cam, so that should counteract their decrease in value.
How much are a set of pads...really, cheap ass', bad customer service right there❗️
Do it right the first time, pretty easy🤔🙄💀
Ford service sucks, i did my brakes myself on my mustang all around, car feels better than when it was new!!
I’m so glad we went with tesla after hearing this review
What a shame...such a nice looking EV compared to a Tesla, but the Tesla is a much better value.
No offence but its time to go Japanese. You bluffed right? 🤪
I'm not opposed once our lease is up on the Mach-E, we'll see what the options are like in 3 years!
