35 years anniversary and the film still looks fresh. How many modern films full of CGI can say that. Certainly not the last Predator film. I think it shows the difference between directors who are paid just to make a film and directors who make a film because it is an absolute passion.

"These people are soldiers Newt here to protect you." - Ripley "It won't make any difference." - Newt Your video gives some extra clarity to Newt's quote. The colony already had some Marines.
If not Marines, at least Private Bonded Security Teams. The Colonial Marines discovered the Colony and all the evidence of armed Battles with the first waves of Xenos.
@@josephruiz7233 yeah they first saw signs of combat when they saw the huge acid damage in the main entrance of the colony. They even assumed that the threat was non existent.
“These people are here to protect you…they’re soldiers.” Newt: “It won’t make any difference.” Hudson to other Colonial Marines: “Did she just call us f*ckin soldiers?”
@@trevorduna7666 Cameron made that aura and attitude intentional. The Marines thought that the Aliens were wiped out. That's the affect that Cameron was looking for with the Colony looking like a former, and I emphasize "former", Combat Zone.
It's sad that the fate of the Hadley's Hope colony was because of Burke's greed and none of the colonists knew about this until Ripley discovered the directives sent by Burke.
This little bit confused me a bit the first time I watched it, I always thought it was convenient that the prospectors just so happened to find the derelict ship coincidentally as Ripley was thawed out but on rewatch I realized that the prospectors were literally sent there by the company and by Burke more specifically after Ripley reports her findings. Pretty scummy of them
There's been two times a movie kind of glossed over something. That i thought...."can we go back and get more of that". And they were both from a JC film. The fall of Hadleys Hope and that future scene from Terminator. At least we got a scene in Terminator. This was just left to our imagination.
Sometimes your imagination is better than what can be brought to the screen. This is part of what made the first two Terminator movies and Aliens so good.
Every other thought in my head while listening to this was your exact statement. It would be horrifying. It would be such an excellent sci-fi horror movie. It would have a built-in audience I just don’t see how it would not be a success. You wouldn’t even have to throw hundreds of millions at the budget. As long as you used good costumes the sets would honestly be minimal. I would even relish the chance to watch a fan made version of this. But anyway. I second your emotion 👍🏼
I m in agreement. They should have gone ahead with making a film on Hadley’s Hope before making the likes of Prometheus and Convenant which to me were a disappointment. That said Resurrection was not all that great and it’s when the franchise started to really lose its way. I liked the idea of Alien 3 and the plot but it was the CGI which let it down.
Same here!! I'd absolutely LOVE a prequel movie about Hadley's Hope! Maybe set just after Isolation. The tense foreshadowing build up of the company's decision to start a colony, Newt's parents being all like "This will be the big break for us!" All the subtle signs of the colony being infiltrated, people mysteriously dissappearing. Just get someone competent to recreate the old school 70s style and we're made! Anything better than the "actual" prequels like Prometheus or Covenant.
There's so much meat on this bone. I watched Aliens as a child...and still am learning about this universe. Thank you for the thorough, insightful and entertaining upload. Cheers
@@jaybeam1466 Convenant was okay, i liked it but it i agree, it could have been better. Their reasons for landing on the planet was fine but after that the plot was pretty weak. It was like they tried to cram more lore and explanations than what was needed, which messed everything up. Honestly there are alot of Alien comics and books, why not use those to make movie.
Its pretty badly written. People making obviously stupid decisions. Marines etc getting picked off ons by one. Splitting the parry to charge in to..what? Save the infected? Aliens easily overrunninv a secure area with one entrance vs automatic weapons etc. Its ludocrously bad
The inclusion of the deleted scenes of Hadley's Hope (showing the Jorden's finding the Derelict spaceship) back into Aliens was brilliant. I like the further connective tissue it provides if only in a small way.
I like the book, too. The only minor quibble I may have, and not even a quibble really, is the description/location of the egg chamber in the book. Or rather the discrepancy between how/where Kane found the egg chamber by being lowered all the way down into it, and then how the Jorden's found the egg chamber right next to the fossilized Engineer. Not a big deal for me at all, but a discrepancy. Still really enjoyed the novel.
Always wished they'd make a movie about the events of Hadleys Hope from the moment the parasite was brought into the complex to the sheer panic as the first xeno bursts out and quickly grows to a fierce humanoid nobody has the capability to fight. "The last stand" as they barricade themselves off and only have the use of small fire arms and seismic survey charges, gradually being dragged into ducts overnight. Would be one of the few movies that wouldn't have a happy ending but I'm all for it!!
Or maybe even the first 30 minutes of Aliens showing more of what happened at Hadleys Hope. As we do see the start, but it then cuts away after the event with Newts parents. They could have filmed it and released it after. Maybe as a short film at least. As my idea would surely screw up the pacing of Aliens. The pacing of one of my other favorite movies is slightly annoying. 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day'. I seem to lose interest after the prison break and they are driving at night in the car towards Sarah's Mexican friend with the underground weapons storage. That is when I usually stop watching, almost every time I re-watch it. Where the pacing in Aliens is perfect. I'm going to re-watch Aliens now to see if I'm remembering the pacing correctly. Both directed by James Cameron as well as I'm sure you know. "Have you ever been mistaken for a man?" "Have you?" :)
There was a series called Hadley's Hope and 3 others, 1 being a UK series that looked like Hadley's Hope. Hadley's Hope had the girl named Newt. It was on the cover of TV guide, I had this TV Guide until '00 when it came up missing. There was the movie too and you could buy the big wheel. People called it the Hadley's Hope big wheel.
Funny, I rewatched Aliens last week (3 times in a row actually) and was wondering how the infestation was taking place. But everytime I thought of it I had to stop, because I felt so sorry for Newt from having to experience it (I unwillingly imagine my own daughter in her place). Yes she survived it, but the trauma from having being alone with everyone disappearing.. fuck man..
I think this comic really illustrates how despicable either the company or most likely burke was as they or he didnt warn the colonists about the eggs in the ship and were willing to take any risks neccesary to gain a specimen for their research and also having no regard to the pain and suffering caused by this decision
Still my favourite all time film, 31 years later after first watching it on VHS with my mom back in 1990 when I was just 10 years old. Thanks for keeping it alive 😎👍
Mom took my brother and I (I was 10 or so) with friends to see the original in the theater. My brother and I made it to the chest buster scene and ran out of the theater, we waited in the lobby until the film was over. I have been fascinated with the Alien story (ies) evermsince that night.
@@Ryglado I wasn't a fan of that film man, I wanted to like it but it was just boring!, I'll tell you what is good though Sputnik from 2020, it was a great sci-fi horror, not that I'm a horror fan but it's a horror like Alien is a Horror! You seen it?
Raised by Wolves was great also! I feel it was the vision Ridley mixed the Alien franchise up in and anoyed us all with Prometheus and Covenant! Not that I didn't enjoy them but they weren't 'Alien'!
@@S-T-E-V-E No worries! I can’t disagree that that Prospect was slow moving. Yes, I did see Sputnik and liked it a lot! Another alright low budget one was Archive, if you saw that. I always wanted to know the story of the woman the Marines found in the nest. Considering the impregnation process only takes a couple of days, she must have survived a long time before finally being captured and taken to the nest. I wonder if she has a story, or is that just a continuity error?
I don’t doubt she may have escaped the 2nd last battle or last battle. Maybe with the group that left after the loss of both teams. Either way she survived that long is incredible but it was only a matter of time before she was caught. Unlike Newt, she probably didn’t know the duct system and good places to hide. Only so many places to hide with 100+ Xenos running around.
The saddest part of all of this, they have vehicles. The survivors could have evac to one of the smaller atmospheric processors and wait for the marines. If they acted fast enough, I doubt the hive would have followed once the colonist was out of their reach.
@@Athrun82it wasn't. They named it that to trick potential invaders. They hear Greenland and think it's a nice moderate climate. They get there without proper cold weather supplies and either head back or die before they can..gotta remember back then boat travel took alot longer.
I really like your videos on Alien Theory- the missing parts, the technical readouts ( which I can appreciate because I got an A in college level deafting) and the contingency plans not shown in the actual movie. Good job.
I had not considered the fall of Hadleys Hope as a story worthy of exploration. But upon watching your rendition of the timeline I see it really is full of intriguing possibilities and well worth a set piece in it's own right. I can imagine the personal arguements and positions taken by individuals regarding impromptu expeditions before the Jordan's trip out, not to mention the suspicions they would have had of the company and it's motives. Thank you AT.
As much as I'd love a prequel with the events leading up Aliens, I think it's better as a story untold. The Aliens special edition with extra scenes allows us to imagine the horror, less is more sometimes!
I really wished CA would make a game and revisit this part of Aliens, you could play as either a major or minor character, initially starting off doing your day to day routine on Hadley's Hope, word through the grape vine is one of the colonists family's has scored something big time, next thing you know everyone's on a need to know basis, upper management won't say a word til an "accident" occurs in the Medlab, before you know it all hell breaks lose, sheer terror, confusion and panic among the colonists... your family and friends "disappearing" one at a time, until you finally see it for the first time... Now that, is a game I would spend my life savings just to play
@@hippoace Could be I'd rather there was no happy ending, there really wasn't one for any of the colonists save Newt unless you include Alien 3 then maybe not 😁
What some people have talked of is wishing you could play AS Newt. She's alone. Her brother, and parents are gone. All she has is herself and her knowledge of the colony airducts. Maybe have a tutorual stage where she played "the game" (hide and seek) inside the air ducts with her friends. The novelization of Aliens mentions this twice. Once when she is being jeered as a"cheater" by her brother Timmy right before their parents make their fateful journey. This is shown in the deleted scenes of the film. And later in the novel only Newt says to Ripley "I was best at the game" and Ripley understands she probably meant the air shaft system given where they found her living. She goes on to mutter about having a good memory and that she could get into places others were too big. It makes her the Marines' Ace in the hole when they're escaping. When we think about it Newt was not so minor a character in Aliens. She was every bit as important as Hicks, Vasquez or Bishop. EVEN Newt as a playable character for one level would be interesting. A DLC pack since her mission would start with death of her parents and end when the Colonial Marines and Ripley arrive.
If you have not listened to River of Pain on Audible you are truly doing yourself a disservice. Excellent project and I believe the next Alien movie should be about what happened at Hadley's Hope.
I always thought instead of just making sequels and strange prequels about the engineers they should have done a high budged "series" about Hadleys Hope and the situation there. I think this would be a very interesting thing to watch.
@@breembo The story is pretty much already done for em too! No wait, not even pre-production and they've already ruined it by adding way too much random stuff. Dang, it was good while it lasted.
@@antonicholernik1747 So? Just because we know how it ends doesn't mean there can't be interesting story lines or characters. I mean it's just your opinion. There has been a comic line about it after all known as Aliens: Newt's Tale.
If Burke had survived the Xenomorph assault in Operations and the last survivors made it to Gateway, that narration would have made an outstanding prologue to Burke and W-Y's trial.
I've been wanting this to be made into a short film or an independent project that leads directly into Aliens for years! Also, it seems lots of people gloss over or ignore one fairly large detail that was highlighted in Aliens: after the first dropship crashes and explodes, Newt remarks that the Xenomorphs "mainly come out at night." This means that they are either nocturnal or fear bright lights.
@@LordFalconsword The sexuality of the xeno was established long ago: Queen makes egg, egg makes facehugger, facehugger makes alien. Homosexuality is extremely simple, relatively speaking and not somewhere the xeno species can go. The group of humans however? Maybe one would be gay and one would be trans, and some would be brown and some not. Like society, really, if you think about it. And between you and me, before they actually do this in a show... ...wouldn't it be awesome to see a badass trans woman (or man!) doing cool shit in a film about hostile alien creatures? We don't think of trans people as being badass. I know for a fact Caitlin Jenner could whoop both our asses though :) ☺
SUPER interesting. I wish they would make a movie out of the Hadley's Hope disaster. I'm definitely going to check out the River of Pain novel. Thank you and keep it up! One more thing, if you could make a video detailing the "studies" they did on the facehuggers and xenomorphs on HH, I think that would be fantastic (if there's enough information, of course).
TBH if it wasn't for the maniacal idiocy/sadism of Weyland-Yutani: humanity would have been well informed and able to fight off the xenomorphs before they could get really dangerous. I think Ridley Scott's biggest message throughout the Alien series is that callousness and hubris (especially in the form of mega-corporation CEOs seeking to be gods) will be the main thing that precipitates humanity's downfall.
millions of drones made of acid-resistant plastic that seek out xenomorphs and blow up near them could eradicate any alien infestation, flying, swimming, or crawling drones, makes no difference. They may have thousands but we would make millions. Poetic justice.

I've read the novel River of Pain a couple of years ago and listened to its audiobook more than once. This may sound cheesy but a prequel of Aliens using this great novel would be awesome. At least way better than Prometheus, Covenant, i think. Cheers to all Alien universe fans

Honestly I am loving this channel. You are telling us stories that hasn’t even been shown. I legit didn’t know that there were novels of alien and even then, you have info no one knows. And I love it!
This has answered a big question in my mind with the events. Sometimes I wondered if the timeline took over a week or a day. I'm glad I found this video.
Even seeing the theatrical version one can only imagine but with the director's cut that imagination becomes all the more haunting considering we now get to see and realise the people of the colony. Instead of those prequels they could have made a movie out of this storyline.
Awesome video! So Newt survived for 1 month. On another video it was already discussed why this time was 1 month (plus the emergency call was days earlier) when the marines expected backup in just 17 days. Suppose it could be explained by other marine operations happening closer to them than to Earth and the rescue wouldn't be starting out from Earth.
(Alyssane here!)As always thank you for the wonderful content! I never get tired of details from Hadley’s Hope. After Phalanx turned out to be such a good read I’ll have to add River of Pain to my list for next month.
I always wanted to see an alien Isolation sequel with the hordes of Aliens, but a much more subtle approach to combat. Something whereby the player character has the potential to fight off a half dozen aliens or so, but the gameplay penalises combat randomly. Ie- hit points required to kill aliens is random. And sometimes a random xeno may take more ammo to kill than the limited supply the player carries. Aliens that are programmed to use the ducts, and structure of Hadleys Hope to traverse the colony, whilst you try to hide like Newt. And there are a few small groups of surviving colonists, some with an engineer, a doctor, or security specialist in their midst. You have to choose which groups to save, by running quests such as to barricade one group in at the expense of another, or put in place security turrets, or restore the power so they can monitor swarms, and hide accordingly. The games story should be multi-tiered, with the characters being dependent on player choice. Who lives and who dies. The doctors can provide you medical assistance. The engineers can help remotely guide you to parts of the facility that can be closed off, or hatches that can be forced open, and security can remotely control turrets, help you setup mine traps, guide you to dead comrades with weapons and ammunition, or help give you quests to cobble together the components to build your first flamethrower etc… Sewers, vents, corridors. It should be all open to the player. An open world, with colony tractors as transport. The facility, the landing field, the atmosphere processor and all its sub levels and engineering facilities shown and not shown in the film. Alien Isolation plus, in the high octane vein of aliens.
Highly recommend the novel River of Pain. Excellent exploration of the events leading up to the Aliens movie. I've been working my way through the alien books and honestly don't know why as a fan it took me so long to get into them
@@elektrobear2027 The xenos are silicon based hence I think they would be considered non-organic to The Thing imo. However I'm not opposed to the idea' but I think it would be them saying to each other "look you do your thing I will do mine and lets stay out of each others way."

Man, you do a really good job of capturing that foreboding tone, mystique and horror of Aliens. You really took my back to when my Dad used to make us watch this with him when we were children.
A great story, but I do feel, in this case, the depiction we receive in the movie: Hadley’s Hope as a haven of families and normal business the first time we see it and a deserted, eerie nightmare the next, is perfectly chilling.
Part of the attraction of the alien universe, is this gritty, industrial realism; the longhaul freighter Nostromo inching it's way across the black void while the crew sleeps tight in cryostasis having been years underway since departing some unknown mining facility, and still having years of travelling among the stars to it's destination. No teleportation, no warp shenanigans, no what-if scifi engines cranking up the journey speed to significant percentages of lightspeed. But this do offer up some more or less random peculiarities. Like in Alien3 when the research team arrives to secure both the specimen and Ripley carrying the queen embryo. All the action in the movie plays out over a couple of months' time at most. Yet WYC has to be notified, assemble a team and actually travel there in those same few months. Unless being right next door to the secluded and isolated prison world, that's just not possible. Or like in the transcript of Burke's message to the colony administration: That message will take 40 years to reach Hadley's Hope, given radiowaves travel at lightspeed and there is approximately 40 LY to Zeta Reticuli; Burke and Ripley and everyone aboard the Sulaco arriving there some 5-600 years after the message was received. Oh, well.

I think that some of the effects in Aliens would benefit from a re-do. Love the film by the way, just think it would help.
I Might be stupid, but I liked a lot Prey.
Absolutely correct
"These people are soldiers Newt here to protect you." - Ripley
"It won't make any difference." - Newt
Your video gives some extra clarity to Newt's quote.
“These people are here to protect you…they’re soldiers.”
Newt: “It won’t make any difference.”
Hudson to other Colonial Marines: “Did she just call us f*ckin soldiers?”
@@trevorduna7666 Cameron made that aura and attitude intentional. The Marines thought that the Aliens were wiped out. That's the affect that Cameron was looking for with the Colony looking like a former, and I emphasize "former", Combat Zone.
@@josephruiz7233 that's what made it so perfect. They let their guard down against the deadliest threat. 120+ deadliest threats.
It's sad that the fate of the Hadley's Hope colony was because of Burke's greed and none of the colonists knew about this until Ripley discovered the directives sent by Burke.
But with business ethics as it is today......
Does it surprise you?
At least the xenos wouldnt fuck each other over for a percentage right..? @@justsayain9794
Pretty scummy of them
That's what the moral of the story was. Ripley says: You don't see them f*ucking each other over percentages.
Burke worked for Amazon my friend.

"The dates presented here mostly align with the novel version... Mostly..."
Freaking classic!!
There's been two times a movie kind of glossed over something. That i thought...."can we go back and get more of that". And they were both from a JC film. The fall of Hadleys Hope and that future scene from Terminator. At least we got a scene in Terminator. This was just left to our imagination.
JC can borrow alien is undestructible from t1000
Sometimes your imagination is better than what can be brought to the screen. This is part of what made the first two Terminator movies and Aliens so good.
This would've made a great prequel movie.
Read the two issue comic "Newt's Tale" for your prequel.
Totally agree!I always wanted movie about a Hadleys hope it would be for sure better than Covenant or Prometheus crap
There's so much meat on this bone. I watched Aliens as a child...and still am learning about this universe.
Thank you for the thorough, insightful and entertaining upload.
Cheers
Newt's tale was one of, if not the, first comics that i ever purchased (and was not purchased for me) along with ALIEN: SACRIFICE.
I can't believe it's as old as me.
Happy birthday aliens
Happy birthday to the greatest science fiction movie ever made
Ahh I was hoping for an in-depth video about this. The fall of Hadley's Hope, a tale for the ages! 🧐
The Alien movie that we wanted and never was done
Or at least a animated movie, that would have worked well.
Seriously. Covenant was a super let down. Prometheus was awesome though.
On Audible they have this time-line as a cast reading. It's really good
Its pretty badly written. People making obviously stupid decisions. Marines etc getting picked off ons by one. Splitting the parry to charge in to..what? Save the infected? Aliens easily overrunninv a secure area with one entrance vs automatic weapons etc. Its ludocrously bad
The Alien Universe is literally the only thing that scares me and gives me nightmares and for that I love it. These videos are great I need more!
Me too and I love it
The inclusion of the deleted scenes of Hadley's Hope (showing the Jorden's finding the Derelict spaceship) back into Aliens was brilliant. I like the further connective tissue it provides if only in a small way.
I really enjoyed the extended cut as well with the colony lit up reminded me of Outland with Sean Connery.
Loved the book River of pain, wish they had done a movie following it!
I liked some part of it. Other parts i didn't like towards the end.
"Have you ever been mistaken for a man?"
"Have you?"
:)
Yes she survived it, but the trauma from having being alone with everyone disappearing.. fuck man..
She’d grow up to be one tough cookie. Think Vasquez on steroids with Ripley’s experience

Same that sounds amazing it also sounds refreshing.
What will be the ending be? Waking up to a group of Marines trying to save you as you hang from the wall?
@@hippoace Could be I'd rather there was no happy ending, there really wasn't one for any of the colonists save Newt unless you include Alien 3 then maybe not 😁
@@glenakatsr Brackett perhaps? Loosely following River of Pain.
What some people have talked of is wishing you could play AS Newt.
She's alone. Her brother, and parents are gone. All she has is herself and her knowledge of the colony airducts. Maybe have a tutorual stage where she played
"the game" (hide and seek) inside the air ducts with her friends. The novelization of Aliens mentions this twice. Once when she is being jeered as a"cheater"
by her brother Timmy right before their parents make their fateful journey. This is shown in the deleted scenes of the film. And later in the novel only Newt says
to Ripley "I was best at the game" and Ripley understands she probably meant the air shaft system given where they found her living. She goes on to mutter
about having a good memory and that she could get into places others were too big.
Your efforts and the passion you put in the topic must be commended. Great work, always a pleasure to tune in!
If you have not listened to River of Pain on Audible you are truly doing yourself a disservice. Excellent project and I believe the next Alien movie should be about what happened at Hadley's Hope.
Well, my question was answered regarding the events after Newt's father was infected but before the marine rescue team arrives. Thanks.
I always thought instead of just making sequels and strange prequels about the engineers they should have done a high budged "series" about Hadleys Hope and the situation there. I think this would be a very interesting thing to watch.

8:00 13 colonists got face hugs, just by visiting the ship. Dam! Newt mom must not have warned the people not to get close to the eggs.
It's pretty jacked up when it hits you that HH was wiped out in less than 48 hours
I think it's more they understand the value of darkness for cover. They're obviously much smarter than mere animals.
Its surprising they never turned this story into a movie. Feel it could be pretty good.

One more thing, if you could make a video detailing the "studies" they did on the facehuggers and xenomorphs on HH, I think that would be fantastic (if there's enough information, of course).
Instead of the novel, listen to the audio drama. The cast do a great job, it's very well done. You can listen to it on TH-cam.
"mostly..." nicely done, really enjoyed this. Aliens is my favourite movie of all time, so love all this lore.

If they were smart these events would be the alien isolation sequel
The engineers can help remotely guide you to parts of the facility that can be closed off, or hatches that can be forced open, and security can remotely control turrets, help you setup mine traps, guide you to dead comrades with weapons and ammunition, or help give you quests to cobble together the components to build your first flamethrower etc…
Sewers, vents, corridors.

@Mel Gibson After 4 Beers I actually think the thing could take the xenomorphs
I feel like they'd work together

Hadley Hope people: Well, this place is rough but I'm sure with plenty of hard work, we can make this colony work.
Aliens: lol.
This was so well done, so intense! I was tensed up the entire time, and I knew the story!
The NARRATORS VOICE, HAS A CADENCE to it which makes these vids a pleasure to watch.
Oh, well.
Who else wants this to be an HBO mini series?!?!??!
i Do but i wanted it to On Focus on Alien in 1979 and Aliens in 1986 and Fix Alien 3 with it Keep Newt and Cop Hicks and Bishop and Jones The Cat and Burke Alive and Aliens Earth War and Aliens Earth Hive and Alien 4 and Alien 5 and Alien 6 and Alien 7 and Alien 8 and Alien 9 Needs To Focus on another Version of Rebecca Newt Jordon aka Newt Billie From Aliens Earth Hive and Aliens Earth Hive and Amanda Ripley 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾
