A lot of people are saying "why not just repaint the car". The thing is, the repaint itself probably cost more than the car itself in this case haha.
yup, and the people saying " it costs the same as painting it yourself" don't realize how much easier it is to plastidip something than it is to paint it. no sanding, no being stuck with something permanent if and when you fuck it up.
So what? That's how depreciation works.
TheMidnightNarwhal Yes, of course that's how depreciation works, but why waste thousands of dollars trying to repaint a car that's probably worth 2 or 3 thousand when you can spend maybe a couple hundred and get the same result?
Yeah, I bought an older Accord for $1800 and they wanted $2500 to paint it because Honda had shitty clear coat there for a while. My black car looks so much worse than the red one did lol.
The spray-on rubber would be more expensive than normal car paint, dummy.
Man I love how this turned out! I was honestly afraid that the matte silver would look too much like primer, but the metallic flake completely turn that around and brought out an awesome finish!
I really like how you keep it real in this and tell everyone that you all do not do body work just the dip part.
Already understood what it looked like when he said Honda civic
The plasti dip gave the civic an extra 100 horsepower jk. Came out nice
+dale gribble It did give the Civic's life span another good 100,000 miles
+Ek_Corey I used to drive 60K a year . . .
dale gribble I'm
Nah it needs at least 7 stickers on the back window for that
Dude at least 125hp
It was so satisfying to watch him foam soap that car.
+TheAndeegail I'll foam soap you.
+iLikeTurtles Ill settle for sloppy seconds
Very cool. This was my first break-in on your actual "how to" videos. Love it!
One of the coolest vids you've done! Great to see an everyday car get dipped instead of an expensive car. You're the best, Fonzie!
So, what happens when you open the doors? Shiny red
yes, but some contrasting colors will look nice and if you're really worried about it just pull the panel off and mask the insides.
Jorge Serrano Dude, it's plastidip quit taking it so seriously.
***** because he is a ricer and believes honda civic is the best car in the world... and hence you must spend at least $10k on a paint job.
Jorge Serrano your a God among men
Silly comment and people get all butthurt lol
You could've just sanded it down with sandpaper before applying the vinyl for a much better result. Don't need a bodyshop to do that, you need two hands and the ability to use them.
That being said, this is the best application and most sensible usage of car dip I've seen so far.
The best Here actually you need permits, contacts, and other things, bet your 2 year ago self feel dumb eh?
I know it’s been to years late but what type of sand paper 180g? Or wet sand it
Alexis Adame Nava best way for rust hole repairs is to make a new peice, weld, grind down , bondo, sand and rust protection. For papers you have everything from 120 - 240 before priming it. And after that 400 - 600 to remove potential sanding scratches. Halfyear late but hope it helps you. If you can’t weld get a steal net kinda and glasfiber bondo onto it and then do same process with sanding it down, bondo etc
Probably just shouldn’t have mentioned it/shot around it. Wasn’t the point of the video.
This is the video I needed to see. I literally just called them yesterday asking about a similar situation with a car I just picked up but isn’t nearly as bad as that car was so I’m super excited. Hopefully by or before summer when the car is on the road I’ll be ready to do it!
best $400 I'd ever spend tbh. this is just as good as getting a brand new paint job, and it looks 100x better. even from the fading and no paint spots. this was great good job guys.
do a follow up on this project! I'm curious how it held up :)
I really thought he was going to spray the hole with spray foam and trim it off with a razor blade but then he did something even crazier by covering it with a vinyl tape hilarious
Thanks for this video, my car had some of the same problems with the clearcoat so this is a great video to see the prep. Nice work guys
Thanks man your videos are great and as a prepper in a body shop myself, you answer so many questions I have, and give educated advice, again thanks .
Would liked to have seen a close up on that vinyl covered part.
you might want to sponsor EricTheCarGuy to paint his Acura Vigor, this might be a nice promotion for you guys.
I essentially did the same thing with my wagon. I did a fair amount of bodywork, priming and block sanding. Looks great.
That finish is just amazing for plasti dip. I dipped my 90 camaro matte white with black stripes a couple months ago but now I found a new dip color :)
I was waiting for this video! I was wondering how Dip would work on a beater car.
dub step always makes a car look better
lol
I was impressed and even motivated by this video, amazing work. Hope to learn your tips and expertise to help friends and others I’ve got that can’t necessarily afford paint jobs 👏🏽
The before color brings back memories of my faded, peeling red Honda Civic. The Civics should keep you in business for a long time.
I would have stuck a fake intake or vent on top of the rust spot haha
Gotta love the Ricer mentality. :)
(I'd do that too!)
Haha true!!! Lol good thinking :D
Finally, a way to see measurable gains from adding an adhesive mounted hood vent!
Or slap an exedy sticker on It lol.
Or an external boost gauge
I love how he touched the hood at first and then cleaned his hand off hahaha
easy fast good restoration. he puts out more permanent repair options in video if you want to go that far. good job Fonz. thank you !
Nice job, glad to see the product works great on quick restorations!
please do something with the black pearls or black metallics
everyday is bicep day
Jajajajajajajaja I've seen this guy for a while and noticed he has massive biceps
i plan on doing this to my 1996 civic cant wait! looks promising lol im going to do the same color too
Did this on my side mirror caps. Worked great.
Thanks
I wanna Plasti Dip my house!
wow never seen car paint fade THAT bad or rust hole in MIDDLE of the hood
Probably a rock dinged the hood and chipped the paint, causing a rust hole after several years.
Florida... a little salt and you have car cancer.
hannamand or anywhere with a lot if snow and ice. rock salt is a cars worst enemy at times lol
I had a 1984 Ford Temp that was that faded. It's just does after 30 years of weather
You need to get out more then
Finally a different approach, great video Fonzie, bravo!...
I bought your blue metallic luxury dip for my 99 integra . I can’t wait to try it and I’ve been using the product for a while so I found a technique for me that works to eliminate tiger stripes.
the plastidip is worth more than the car LOL
Danielys Um no dont be delusional.
Danielys the type of dude that says "Car broke down, I guess its time to buy a new one"
bruh
anything is worth more than a pos honda.
If you buy this car you can get your money back by selling those aftermarket headlights
Really wanted to see "A Close Up" of the rust area just to see how it covered it up and how noticeable it is. I mean since you spent so much time talking about it, it would have been nice to see first hand.
The car looks really good. Much better then before. How much does it cost to Plasti Dip a car roughly that size ?
Last thing u want is covering the rust...it makes it spread alot faster..rotting the metal from inside out...never ever cover rust...
Vgv Customs Apparently in another video the dip halts the rust. It's the one of the old truck.
Vgv Customs the plasti dip seals it in though not letting it make contact with any moisture > no more rust :D
At 11:40 the rust spots look like two small bumps on the hood...
*****
My 96 civic looks almost identical to this one before plasti dip (same bad red paint). One day I'll get it coated with one of your car kits. Thanks for the tutorial
Haha same bro same
My 99 Dodge Durango has these paint issues. I have a DYC sprayer I’m going to use it for the first time and spray a gun metal gray on it. Thanks for this video.👍🏽
Every "Dip" spray video is shown with the doors/hood/truck closed or shut. So I've often wondered how odd does it look when you open the doors and you see the old color (red in this case) on the door jams and frame of the car? Would you guys ever be willing to show us what the transition (rollover?) from the Dip color to the original looks like?
Jeffrey Barry thats the reason original black car is the best choice. black dress whit all colours when you open the doors.
imagine you car is red and you paint it in yellow...MCDONALS XDDDD
No Name im a fucking badass
So you plasti dip the door jams stupid.
it's the exact same as most paint jobs, you have to pay MUCH extra to get doorjams and inside of hood painted as well.
@@beardedman8884 Ahh NO you freakin don't ! And if that's what they told you bud, roll on outta there!
Proper Body Shop will Take Off the doors - some, the bootlid (trunk lid) as well.
Door cards off, window trim off, manual window out, electric in - but open and covered with a Cream (Cif/Jif) Glass Cleaning product. Brown paper taped over everything Not being sprayed, an away you go !
Bonnet up, engine bay covered underside of bonnet and insides of wings (fender)
It's only light coating and it won't be Clear-coated, but who's looking inside your bonnet anyway.
Plus a kinda "basic rule of thumb" is... Don't Change The Colour of Your Car !!
You might luv minty green over your car's Factory Red, but who the heck is gonna buy it "your" colour? Or without thinking it was in something More Serious than "A wee Bump in a pole", or even wonder whether it's Stolen ?
Only ever paint A Car/Truck or whatever else ! if it's Rare, Newish or Really Expensive - and mostly that's all 'Vinyl Wrapping' now - and that's a lot better choice these days!!
👍☘POD☘😉
Damn bro u got down on that civic it looks new...hella fresh...
Armando Celedon have you ever seen a new car? The final finish had barley any gloss..
ThreeDaysOfDan Because it is a flat finish. He could have added gloss if he wanted to.
Car is a car lol
Lol
Just what I needed to see. Thanks for making this video.
Finally thank you for this video! This is my situation and I’ve been wondering about this.
is it smooth over the spots that were previously rough?
no you would have to putty and sand he did not
That's not restoring bad paint. That's covering bad paint
This looks amazing. Insane.
love these vids, will be purchasing your product thanks to the comprehensive support system, great business strategy.
Hey guys what about doing a woodchipper.... I'm thinking about dipping my chipper.. could you Guy's show us something like that other than car's... thanks so much for the videos..
dipyourCAR.com
Why would yo--- Never mind, that sounds like a wonderful idea..! I want to have a badass lawnmower now. Maybe painters tape V-Tech on it since its a Honda. Match my civic!
Im sure you are talking about just the exterior of the chipper to pretty it up a bit. This stuff is not exactly tough so it would get torn up pretty quick where you feed the wood, branches etc. Nothing wrong with making your stuff better to look at. Just some prep work like degreasing and sanding for good adhesion and you're good to go. Im not sure how long this stuff lasts but for a piece of equipment that might sit outside most of its life unless you keep it in a garage or barn, i think the sun will take a toll on it over time.
If you're going to be doing a ton of car paint videos please invest in a space suit, it's how my father got MS. He worked as a manager of a paint shop for years and it absorbed into his skin.
Dorian Creager damn, for real? never thought it was that harmful..
very real.
Dorian Creager very sorry to hear that, I hope your dad is alright
Joel Sägesser I am a person ms toxic military grade we don't get better.
+Dorian Creager No your father happened to get MS. There's no medical consensus on it's causation. Is it possible the chemicals in paint caused it? Of course. It's also just as possible the pesticides sprayed onto basically all American fruit and vegetables caused it.
Ask yourself this - what about he 10,000s of others in the World that worked just as long or longer in paint shops and didn't get MS?
Looks pretty good for a quick and cheap dip job.
You guys are amazing !!
Great job !!
Stage 2 paint job. Same amount.
MmSuperior Lawn Care
Can you use plastidip Grand Theft Auto style to rip it off and change a cars color quickly after committing a crime? Asking for a friend... :P
Pretzil43 like the film taxi with queen lettfa they do that to their bmw pretty quickly
I i think thats car was wrapped
love the way that you are a honest firm and show people what happens even if it wont work that good :-D
Wow that came out better than I expected
It costs 200 dollars for a basic 1 color paint job on most cars (at least where I live in Florida).... this so-called dip process would cost 2 times that, not to mention the labor I'd have to go through, so please explain how this is worth it? Maybe in a few high dollar cities, but not in most.
Wow,would cost $200 if your lucky and know someone just to do a front bar in Sydney Australia.
'The fuck???? Where do you get those deals?? lol to paint my car black I was quoted at nearly $10k.
Trust me, dip is way better.
Game Guiders HD Had a mate get a gold metallic respray & it only cost him $1500 or something. No way paint can cost 10k dude,, No way at all. Could buy a new car for 10k. Brand new.
Why go through all the labor intensive detail to mask the car off just for a temporary solution of plasti dip? Why not just paint the car?
Because the difference can be a matter of hundreds of dollars if not thousands.
If your doing the work yourself how does it cost thousands? Gold paint?
Scott H arround 550 dlls :) its a good paint tho :)
It's not temporary either after a couple days it'll stay just as long as paint.
Bologna! I have used this many times on my rims and trim. It will look good for a couple months maybe a little more then start to weather.
That's a great solution for a older, smaller, econo-car. Great idea.
Great job on the car! U have actually given me an idea!
i never had faith in dip but that really doesn't look to bad
For us Northerners, how does plastidip fare with very cold climates, road salt, and snow/ice???
I would figure it would pit like regular paint over time with the salt and snow getting to it etc.
Josh Schmiedchen Well, it stands up to pits really well as proven by people who have had iy on their cars since before it became a big thing till present.
My concern is corrosive and extreme temperature ability, how it fares agaisnt it
***** I know a few people who have had their rims for over 2 winters now with plasti-dip on them and they're fine. If you're looking at dipping your car, do it somewhere warm. If you try dipping anything outside when it's 20° out, it'll turn out really bad
xabstractx I figured as much :P I was planning on spraying this coming summer. I do have a climate controlled garage but it's heater isn't working :( so I have to wait.
As for the wheels, aside from staying on the wheels, there was no fading, etc??
No fading as far as I could tell. If there was any, it was minimal.
The only major problem is curbs. One of them had to keep re-dipping his passenger side rims because he pulled up too close and rubbed the dip right off lol
Now that I have watched several of your videos you make me think I can actually do this. My 2002 Beetle needs the dip, before it gets worse. I love the color I have...a color changing metalized Blue/Purple, and the clear cote is coming off much like this video shows. Matching is what I would try to do. Checking out the website. Thanks. And the Chameleon is amazing.
Wow, looks amazing!
For what that would cost you to have done, youd be much better off just getting it painted
Actually no. The Dip is applied over the original paint. New paint can't just be laid over old paint. Oh and the Paint shop would insist on fixing any rust spots on the car. The job could run anywhere between 2000 to 5000 dollars Especially since the paint was really bad on that car.
@barcode80 Whats wrong with a Honda? :)
Solid job on the car. It looks 100 time better.
I'll admit it. I'm happily addicted to watching this channel!
title should be: "temporarily cover up bad car paint with plasti dip"
I swear I've messaged about this car before.Same comment. If your going to RePaint a car,Strip It Down COMPLETELY.Don't 1/2 a** it like this. Why do all this work to a car & open the hood, trunk, door, behind a fender & see some off the wall color behind it.It's a waist of time & waist of money. No way would I buy a car that's been repainted like this. It's horrible.Do it right or don't do it at all.
Aaron Stone Aaron....you're an idiot. PlastiDip is a "rubberized" paint that is completely removable. Maybe you should watch more videos before commenting...smh. I know this comment is old but it just felt necessary *facepalm*
Aaron Stone If that's the case then nobody would paint their cars at all. And most people are not going to spend a $3K a paint job on a car worth $2K tops.
+Jose Marrero dont waist your time
It's cheaper you fuck. Paint jobs can range from $3,000 to $4,500 where this job can cost you about $400. Dumbass
You did a great job! I have been given an older Suburban and the clear coat is a mess on it so i just want to make it look as good as possible without spending a bunch of money, since the car was free and i live off Social Security!
I am very impressed! Looks awesome!
WHAT'S THE TOTAL MATERIAL COST TO PAINT THIS CAR?
I think that job cost around $800.00 in materials
+jetpowered1 sooo maaco
+kk P Less than $300
350$ you can do your car yourself
I want to do this to my truck, but I'm a bit scared.
Did you try it out?
Carlos Moyado Nope
How about now
do you feel it now Mr.Krabs?
@@kenn-fucius all I really wanna know is if this guy looks back and is sad about how small his biceps are in this video compared to today!
Cool, i just clearcoated my old snowmobile to get som gloss and shine to it, and it turned out great 👍
Just what I needed to see. I have 95 M3 with a beat paint job from sitting in 120 Arizona sun. But I'll be sanding mine down, replacing a fender, and bondo the 2 door dings before I dip mine. But good to finally see a video where it's not a brand new $100,000 car. Although my 08 M3 might be getting dipped now....just doesn't need a color change at the moment
Dip more honda's
You've seen one Honduh you've seen em all.
Do you need an air compressor for the spray gun?
no it actually runs on pixie farts and small childrens tears
1996 red gt fuck off
if you buy the kit it comes with a small air compressor and everything else you will need.
Cheers mate :)
no problem
I know you probably won’t look at a new comment on a video this old but I wish you would do more videos on cars like this. Older cars regular people drive. My daily driver is an ‘07 Chevy Uplander. I’d love to see what something like that looks like with hypershift on it.
I've seen this car at their store. You'd never know it looked that bad before. You could still tell it was a little rough, but WAY better than before.
man that car looks so much better. too bad its a honda though.
Honda's are great cars if you take care of them.
Justys Grimm most cars apply by this rule
Jeezus Kripes you're handsome... did you mention something about paint?
True it wont look as great as going to a body shop, but as a DIY option that saves money, this is amazing work!
almost exactly how my car looks like. This is the video I wanted to see!!!
Cant restore anything with temporary solutions...
How much longer do you think that car has? If the car is in that bad a shape do you think the owner is taking care of it? So why worry about a temp solution for a car that might get junked soon?
3:42 you say "the roof is" and I immediately think "on fire". I know, I know... I'm sorry.
I'm glad you finally used an everyday car........been sayin for months I wish they'd show a civic and low n behold you did
Wow, what a great finish.
people who are going to use plastidip arent going to have bondo and a sander but they'll have a heat gun? wut
he says u can use a blow dryer, u dont know anyone with a blow dryer?
how many men own a blow dryer, honestly
Sad Dana read what i wrote again, i dont got time for illiterate people in 2014 bruh bruh
>implying all men know people
If you're a chick just use a hair dryer and if you're a dude just borrow your mums. Pretty simple.
It looks slightly less shit...
Im impressed. Didnt expect the turnout
Looks great!
To be honest you're not restoring anything you're covering it up...
+Scott Brixey He restored the look of the car
+Scott Brixey thats half of restoration. painting.
+Scott Brixey So? Isn't that what new paint is supposed to do?
he doesnt "restore bad car paint", its a BS title
Bad looking Civic before, bad looking Civic after....
Wow I'm really impressed with how OEM that looks. I'm going to attempt to repaint my car, and if I mess up, I'll just plasti dip it.
Sweet video. Answered a lot of questions!
Bruuuuhhhh, are you using plastidip as protien????
cringe is real with that rust hole fix.
+kenykillr AGREED......obvious to me that there is no care, a file and one minute of time. Do not have to be a body man to move a file back and forth....you know people are going to pick at it.
+pipes13ca1 The guy only explained THREE times in the video that it was a hash fix and to look elsewhere for a bodywork video. The customer probably did not want to pay for the additional work. Vinyl was a pretty cleaver fix considering.
DV7Dave The man can explain his lack of quality/laziness all he wants that still does not make him un-accountable for doing that.
That would not even entail a customer charge - honest 10min to slap a file on it and smooth it out a little bit......and 8min of that is looking for the file.
Just saying if I am the client of that car..... I am disappointed. That is the cars hood - not a rear fender well.
Anyhow.....not my car, nor would I let the guy ever touch one of them either.
Cheers man.
+pipes13ca1 yes because i take my car to paint shops to get body work done all the time, i also take my car to body shops to have it painted.
pipes13ca1
im not saying that they dont do those things, all im saying is if i want body work done ill take it to a body shop, and if i want paint done ill take it to a paint shop. im not going to take my car to a mainly body shop if i only want paint and im not going to take my car to a mainly paint shop if i want body work. thats how it works. and they guy said the same thing in the video, body work is not their specialty so they are sticking to what they know how to do at that shop.
Love it. patch of vinyl over the rust hole. SORTED!
That looks great.
