  • Hoka Carbon X3 Review! 3 Reasons Not to Buy! After a week of living with the Hoka Carbon X 3 I have found myself just not really getting on with this new version. The upper is a mess and there are just better shoes out there! Also at £160 it is quite expensive!

    Enjoyed the Carbon X 3 and had it for six months. The only shoes I can run 60K (37.5 miles) without my feet hurting. Broke a personal record with them on first use in a marathon.

    Enjoyed the X3 over the weekend - parkrun + a few extra miles, then a 22miler on Sunday. It’s not one for steep downhills but comfort, stability and ease over those miles was great 👍

    Really like this one! Seen a lot of complaints but the upper is like a dream for me. Fits perfectly. The ride is stable in the firmer side and with a really quick turnover. I will use these as my companion for longer distances and also speed sessions. For races I am gonna stick to the the next %. 😊

    Just retired my second pair of Rincon 2s. Got 1000km out of both pairs and absolutely loved them. Had my first run yesterday in my new Mach 4s and they felt great. Hoping the durability is ok and they get me through my marathon in June. Loving the channel, thanks for all the hard work.

      Mach 4 much better than the Rincon for me. The fit, ride, comfort and durability all good. Cracking shoe enjoy👌🏾

    I have my first hoka Cliffton 8. And find them very comfortable. I did my first half marathon in them. (1.48) I should say I'm 51 so comfort is more important. I was thinking of getting the carbon 3 (200 euro) I know your younger and that does make a difference. So over the half marathon, any shoe you could have regardless of price what shoe would you think is best. Love your channel so would love to know, completely as a running fan.

    Hoka Clifton 3 found new on eBay recently. Use Bondi at work. Tried Clifton 8 but the arch was to much. Need Zero arch support for fat feet.. Also enjoying Novablast 2. Appreciate the videos a bunch. Interesting seeing long run videos recently. Kind of fell out of love with running but still enjoy the inner challenge because so easy tell yourself to quit. Thanks

    Loved the carbon X which I actually dug out for a 25k run yesterday. Forgot what a nice ride it is. Also have the carbon x2 which is a different shoe altogether really good over the longer distance as it just keeps you going. Not liking the idea of that upper on the x3 so may swerve that one. Just purchased the Bondi 7 which was going to be my go to for my first 50 miler but 2 runs in and I can't get it working for me yet 🤔

    Great shoes!!! 70Km/week - 4 weeks/ no imperfections/stability/light and comfortable; unfortunately just very expensive. Will buy again

    I'm a middle-pack runner, i just enjoyed the Challenger ATR 5/6 & Clifton 6. Got the Mach 4 waiting for a HM in may! In contrast, i can't get along with the 'mastershoe' Endorphin Speed! Have them for sale after 30 miles (if anyone's interested 😅) Thanks for the critical review!

      I did my first half marathon in the Mach 4 last year. They were a dream and still a great shoe in my training rotation. Enjoy👍🏾

    Not going to try the X3. I got the X2s on discount and put 18 miles on them last week. They're going back. I also have the Rocket X which are nimbler, lighter, better-cushioned, and much faster (I hope Hoka will give us an updated Rocket). For me, the Carbon X series just suffers from an identity crisis. For the kind of runs I would use them for, I can think of a dozen better trainers (including the two you mentioned). Similarly, I can think of a dozen better carbon-plated racers. Currently, I think the Mach 4 is the best Hoka trainer while the Rocket X is an underrated racer - so good! Great review!

    Spot On I brought these and the fit is just not right in hokas I’m a 7 Uk but these our 7.5 and they fill to lose in the upper toe area really annoying there really light weight what I like for me I use for tempo and intervals lucky I brought for £130 thank good,I previously had the ASICS nova blast 2 for daily runs and just brought the nova blast 3 and they kick the arse of both of those previous shoes

    Hi Chris. Great review. I’m mainly running in the Speeds. Thinking about getting the Pro.. do you have any idea when the Pro 3 will be released? Thanks… Dan

    There is only 1 problem with carbon x3 = Rocket X (light, comfortable, stable and fast)
    Really waiting for the Pro 3 now or maybe NB carbon shoes for 2022.
    Alphafly is tempting because on sale, but I don't like Nike as a company 🤮

    I loved the 1st carbon x. But I hadn't had any other carbon super shoe. After 120 miles the plate was exposed due to the foam essentially disappearing 😂. In contrast my first pair of vaporfly (that people saying don't last) are now just for training speed sessions have 250 miles and still fine!
    Other than the durability of the og.... The ride was firm and great for upto half Mara. No chance I would run a full marathon in it

    • @FordyRuns
      @FordyRuns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I wouldn’t wanna run a Mara in these

    X2 was my trainer for Chicago. I need to sign up for London to justify a better shoe 😂. Seriously though, I’ve seen a lot of critiques of the x3 upper. Thanks Fordy for your insights.

    I liked the OG Carbon X at the time, but things have moved on. You gotta wonder how these shoes get though wear testing - e.g CX3 upper, Puma deviate heel issues etc.

    • @FordyRuns
      @FordyRuns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree I do wonder

  • @chrisd7388
    @chrisd7388 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have had both the Carbon X2 and Rocket X. Much preferred the Rocket X but the wear on them was horrendous and they were trashed after 200 miles. Currently got 160 miles in the CX and they are wearing much better but they just don't feel fast and i'm now only using them for easy long runs. I did pick them up in a sale @ £ 104 but certainly wouldn't be replacing them @ £160 as they don't justify that price tag.

    • @FordyRuns

      Seems a lot think the same

  • @Resiak85
    @Resiak85 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unfair comparison with the Puma and the Saucony Pro, IMHO. They should be compared to the Rocket X which is in the same range.
    Yes, they all have a carbon plate but the Carbon X series was built for a different purpose that is very long-distance running. Rob Ripley won the 155-mile Namib Desert ultramarathon wearing the Carbon X2 and, in his interview post-race, he mentioned how no other carbon-plated shoe would be as durable and consistent over that distance and terrain.
    Said that I am not saying the Carbon X is a great shoe, I believe you when you say the upper in this version is bad, but still don't see the point in comparing apples and oranges.

    Never entertained Hoka since the Carbon X2 - I prob buy 12 pairs of trainers a year and the CX2 was the worst shoe I’ve ever purchased - gave them away free after 2 runs as would have been embarrassed to sell them. Be better off running a marathon in my Crocs - now there’s a review you could do Fordy 🤷🏼‍♂️ Happy to help 😂🤣

    Shame, I really like the X2's as a long-run trainer (the endorphin speed2 is a better all-around shoe though). So I hear what you're saying. Given what has come out this year at Hoka (road shoe team) I got the feeling that the tail is starting the wag the dog; Sales and Marketing are taking over and they are transforming the output into lifestyle shoes. Shame I thought they would enhance the X2 and give us an improved shoe that could go the 26 -50 miles in a smooth cruise. I think possibly the PHANTASM CF will be the replacement when my second X2's give up the ghost. (got a while yet)

    A speed shoe is supposed to be a snug fit. So you feel connected in it to go fast. How could Hoka get it so wrong.?. Hoka need to go back to basics on the Carbon x the first one was pretty good but the 2nd version had issues now the 3 looks worse.

    Fordy, those are fighting words! How dare you say the Endorphin Pro 2 is not a super shoe! Ran faster marathon than my VaporFly 2! 🤣🤣 Still didn’t BQ tho but it wasn’t the shoes fault. 😔 5 minutes to shave off.
