YOu are absolutely right - in my opinion.....Too often we strive to race! To increase our license class! When what we really should be doing is treating it like the real world and spending (a lot of) time practicing.....I personally like the time trials as the next step as they force you (at least me!) to drive more cautious....yet fast - as if a wreak has consequences...
I currently use an iMac 21.5" with the AMD Radeon HD 5950M (of 5970 not sure without looking;-) graphics card with 512GB memory. It is trouble free but I think the 27" is best as you can get the 6970 card and up to 2GB memory plus the ability to plug in 2 side monitors into the Thunderbolt ports. I'll probably try that soon..... Of course you have to run Windows via Bootcamp but that works just fine as well. Just don't try to do it with Parallel or any like program.
Thanks Mike. I'll check into it. How about the latest videos? We do check our sound as from my personal computer it's about the same levels - almost anyways ;-)
Funny I should find this today. I just got my Logitech MOMO wheel/pedals and NASCAR 2003 Sierra/Papyrus Sim working this week w/ WIN 8 and have been downloading sims (X-Motor Racing) Then I came across iracing.com and then this video. Is the iracing.com as comprehensive as the Sierra/Papyrus software was compared to like an EA Sports type? It looks to be very similar. Hopefully even an upgrade. Thinking about signing up with that 50% off 3 months deal.
It depends on what you want. If you are just playing at racing look at the Logitech products. If you really want to simulate real racing as closely as you can, you are going to have to spend at least 350.00 for a wheel and pedals - that being the Fanatec CSR and CSR Elite pedals.
can you send me a link to find the logitech stuff i just want to get started doing sim racing with friends but when i get good enough i will upgrade to the $350 equipment
Yikes! Not sure on my firmware. Here's what I got from the Fanatec Fansite (I think) Wheel: Sen-off FF-100 Sh0-100 Everything else off. Seems weird and never tried it ;-) With my settings like I mentioned I very slightly worked the iRacing Strength from around 24 to around 38 to find the sweet spot.
I got 1 problem with my CSR wheel it wont let me run the factory firmware, then the buttons don't work on PC, and on the Beta Firmware Thomas released on 911wheel.de, doesn't seem to have a good FFB....
I will do from now on then :S But I just can't get my FFB Strong enough, I can't feel where I am going, I can't feel while going over curbs, or anything...
I can't think of any better way - that's doable anyway..... You slowly progress your way to the higher class levels and there, better racers and better racing. Just like in real life.
Don't know if you've gotten a wheel yet but the Logitech Driving Force GT is a great budget wheel, it was my first real wheel (discarding the cheap console ones I had as a kid) it served me really well.
kill2thisx not yet, ill get one in two weeks time. And yeah thats the one im after, everyone says its a best wheel for a money. I wish i could get g27 but its too expensive for me now, rather to spend those money on my real wrx haha :D
bassharvest You'll be happy with it, its at a good price point to "test the waters as it were" ironically the wheel I upgraded to was the G27! so from that you can get an idea how much trust I have in Logitech products. Sadly being a father I don't pump money into cars anymore, we're currently leasing a new VW Polo 1.2tdi it's the least exciting car I've ever driven. But at 64mpg on average its the most fuel efficient aswell! Anyway hope you enjoy your DFGT when you get it, maybe we'll meet on a virtual track sometime!
Okay, here's what my wheel is set at: SEN-600 FF-80 Spr-3 Damper-3 All else 0 iRacing: FF Enabled-checked Strength-30.4 Damping-100 Let me know if that works for you!
Now your life will never be the same ;-) iRacing is without a doubt the most realistic sim racing you can currently race on. It is great for learning tracks, learning proper driving, and learning about car setups. Very realistic but not cheap.
I have Race 07 and all the add ons and also rFactor, which I both enjoy although the AI can be a little flaky. The ONLY thing that puts me off a little about iRacing is the cost of additional content. I'm a Pro member over at rfactor central and just today downloaded the Endurance mod with SUPERBLY modeled cars such as Audi R10 TDi, Peugeot 908 HDi, Aston Martin DB9R etc 22 cars for free. That would cost $263 in iRacing. The 7 cars available when you first join iRacing, just don't interest me.
The best advice i can give you is concentrate on mastering 1 car 1st, do not try and move up in class like it's GT5, complete at least 2 seasons in the same car, that way you really learn racecraft. Irating is more in important than safety rating, the higher your irating the better competiion you will face. There are people with A safety rating but have 800 irating so they always race with wreckers lol
Subjective in the same way as I can say that an M3 is worth the money! If you can't afford an M3, it's still 'worth the money' ;-) And mostly likely if you thought part 1 was lacking then part 2 will be equally lacking....
I couldn't agree more, in fact you just described why pretty much every other racing game is a waste of my time.... I can't speak for everyone obviously there are other games with other things to offer.... but real racing.... almost no other game has anything that feels anything like a real race.
@SimRacingReview He he :D if you want to check ur firmware calibrate the wheel and press the 2 lower red buttons and the A + x button at the same time. :)
I have run rfactor for a while now and while at first i couldnt see the point in paying to play there is really no way to put the 2 in the same league. Im addicted to iracing now to the point where i can see the cost involved. I still enjoy rfactor but iracing is just so far ahead. The biggest thing to do though is to clear the rookie series. A lot of Id10t,s out there and it dose make you not enjoy what you have payed to play
I only got 1 problem with 1 Racing, I think the Force Feedback on my CSR wheel is to weak, I use 35,6 FFB In game and 100 FFB on my wheel, and I can't feel a god damn thing...
That is definitely a problem but then just when I get angry at the idiots I become one ;-) I have found the practicing and the work on qualifying helps to stay away from the 'other' idiots ;-)
iRacing definitely gives the best feel of being a race car driver, it's got a huge community, I too love the irating and the safety rating system. With that said, it doesn't give the best feel for the car. The NTM they have been promoting doesn't feel that great to me.
Also take a look at both Digital Storm and Main Performance computers. I found the techs at Main Performance very helpful in setting you up with what you need without trying to oversell you what you don't need.
I must say that I struggled for too long to get my settings right. Either too little or too much wobble back. BTW: Please leave God (even with a small g) out of your comments. Thanks.
That's unfortunately the biggest drawback in iRacing :( I'm really put off by all the expenses... you'd think sure alright, $11 on this car, $15 on that track... alright a bit more here a bit more there... it just adds up! I've gone back to rFactor, thinking of purchasing the beta rFactor 2... after all, it's just a once off purchase for a whole year... mods and additional content will be free :) Unlike iRacing
Micheal Schumacher was famous for going out on Thursday practice and doing the complete opposite to what this guy is saying. He would go out, and go beyond the limit of his car immediately and then dial things back gradually until he found the sweet spot of speed and driving on the limit. This often resulted in spins and off field excursions during the practices. Ayrton Senna apparently also did this. Obviously this is very good advice in this video, but my god is it pedantic. I think i prefer to emulate Senna and Schimi rather than sensible bearded man here.
Thanks, this is the review that I was waiting for. Good job.
Videos old but has some really good advice, just got my class D licence tonight.
Hi,
I see you use Macs for your racing. Do you find the GFX OK? What GFX chip does you mac contain for your iRacing setup?
YOu are absolutely right - in my opinion.....Too often we strive to race! To increase our license class! When what we really should be doing is treating it like the real world and spending (a lot of) time practicing.....I personally like the time trials as the next step as they force you (at least me!) to drive more cautious....yet fast - as if a wreak has consequences...
Thanks, I hope it will help, I am getting sick of having weak FFB :)
Thanks - that beats looking it up!
Awesome to hear!
Great advice...
Great advice for sure...

do u need a steering wheel with clutch and gear shifter or is a cheap 1 alright till i get a new 1?
Funny I should find this today. I just got my Logitech MOMO wheel/pedals and NASCAR 2003 Sierra/Papyrus Sim working this week w/ WIN 8 and have been downloading sims (X-Motor Racing)

Yes, however, for the rookie series (and when you're around the beginner iRating
It depends on what you want. If you are just playing at racing look at the Logitech products. If you really want to simulate real racing as closely as you can, you are going to have to spend at least 350.00 for a wheel and pedals - that being the Fanatec CSR and CSR Elite pedals.
They have a list of what will work on their website. I think under FAQs...
Omg the intro sound is orgasmic!!
Thanks. Anything I can pass along I will ;-)
that's okay! thanks for the answers! :D
can you send me a link to find the logitech stuff i just want to get started doing sim racing with friends but when i get good enough i will upgrade to the $350 equipment
Some very good and correct advise for iracing. Its a game you need to learn t drive before you race.
Type in Logitech wheel and pedals in your search engine. It's available on Amazon.
good point!
thank you soo much!
by the way...wich sim game do you think is more realistic?
Yikes! Not sure on my firmware.
Here's what I got from the Fanatec Fansite (I think)
Wheel: Sen-off FF-100 Sh0-100 Everything else off. Seems weird and never tried it ;-)
With my settings like I mentioned I very slightly worked the iRacing Strength from around 24 to around 38 to find the sweet spot.
Just about to sign up! :D
I got 1 problem with my CSR wheel it wont let me run the factory firmware, then the buttons don't work on PC, and on the Beta Firmware Thomas released on 911wheel.de, doesn't seem to have a good FFB....
Another thing is start in the pits/don't grid and u will get the same points and stay out of wrecks
I'm going to see about that. Either pay for a bundle at $43.99 in iRacing, or purchase rFactor 2 for the same price (one year membership)
Thanks
what specs do you need for this game?
I will do from now on then :S But I just can't get my FFB Strong enough, I can't feel where I am going, I can't feel while going over curbs, or anything...
I can't think of any better way - that's doable anyway..... You slowly progress your way to the higher class levels and there, better racers and better racing. Just like in real life.
Coming ;-)
Always start with the very best you can afford.
awesome! got to get myself a proper wheel now!

No, both physics and FFB were odd/weird last time I drove it.
the logitech driving force gt is really good :)
try X Motor Racing Pro with multiplayer, and excellent physics.
Okay, here's what my wheel is set at:
SEN-600
FF-80
Spr-3
Damper-3
All else 0
iRacing:
FF Enabled-checked
Strength-30.4
Damping-100
Let me know if that works for you!
Now your life will never be the same ;-)

so i need a wheel and some petals but dont want to go over $175 please help
Not sure i know that one. Better explain it to me....If you start in the pits don't you start last?
Yes, I think so. Sorry about those other comments being from ATVTV....I used my wrong account ;-)
I have Race 07 and all the add ons and also rFactor, which I both enjoy although the AI can be a little flaky. I haven't played iRacing, but I always liked Live for Speed for a racing sim.
The price is not that bad all the updates and new cars you get for free if they change
Oh and love the show to
As compared to?
Anytime my friend, any time.....
Unfortunately I've found them while lapping them as well as even after the checkered on the back straight ;-(

i'm running from my laptop with a gtx 260 and getting about 80 fps with max settings.
even on physics?

Yikes! I don't know what to say....Have to do some investigating.
your the dude from the atv show!
I have run rfactor for a while now and while at first i couldnt see the point in paying to play there is really no way to put the 2 in the same league. I think iRacing is the most realistic and the SimBin titles and rFactor next.
I only got 1 problem with 1 Racing, I think the Force Feedback on my CSR wheel is to weak, I use 35,6 FFB In game and 100 FFB on my wheel, and I can't feel a god damn thing...
It actually made it alot worse.. Which Firmware are you running on your CSR wheel?
That is definitely a problem but then just when I get angry at the idiots I become one ;-)

I need help with a good desktop. What to get? I am a beginner when it comes to PC hardware. Can someone point me in the right direction? PLEASE!!!!
Do a TH-cam search for "Austin Evans", he has great videos on gaming computers for almost any budget.
Also take a look at both Digital Storm and Main Performance computers. I found the techs at Main Performance very helpful in setting you up with what you need without trying to oversell you what you don't need.
I must say that I struggled for too long to get my settings right. Either too little or too much wobble back.

If you are serious about racing it is worth the cost.
If that's Part 1, where's Part 2?

sure...and when you get hitted from behind you loss points!
fair? i guess not!
Don't call it "Part 1" when there is no "Part 2"!
dude? Not even Dude, or Mr. Dude? Just dude?
:-)
yes, and this is proof:
/watch?v=0p_sCrM1CcI
Don't call it "Part 1" when there is no "Part 2"!
