Hi there I'm really enjoying your video's thanks a lot I have a question about my best parfum Black XS L'Exces for Him Paco Rabanne 2012 I can't find same of it can you please advise me about similar merk if you can ?
@@bascoaful As a musician and music lover I totally see that snobery in the community haha. I am still searching for my Napalm Death of niche perfumes.
I don't like to wear BR540 personally. I like it on my husband because I can smell the woods and fir balsam on his skin. He thinks it smells like candy floss, but he loves to wear it and always gets compliments, which he also loves 😂
BR 540 Extrait, Portrait of a Lady, and Angels' Share were all love at first sniff for me. All are masterpieces IMO, and I always get compliments whenever I wear them. As for Angels' Share, that fragrance is absolutely beastly on me. I cannot overspray it. It projects and lasts and lasts and lasts, literally until my next shower.
Angel’s Share stays on me all day and get me so many compliments. I have Oajan too but I find Angel’s Share more sweet and « thick » if that makes sense.
I didn’t much like Portrait Of A Lady when I first smelled two years ago. My initial impression was that it screamed potpourri. (In a similar way that Serge Lutens Feminité du Bois does, but heavier in the rose.) I ended up getting rid of Feminité du Bois, but I have warmed to Portrait of a Lady. While the opening still has a potpourri vibe, I find the dry down quite elegant. It brings me back to coming of age in the 70s living a bit of a bohemian lifestyle in Topanga Canyon, hanging out at Malibu beach and the Agoura Renaissance Faire, trying my best to be a hippie. I just bought a bottle and while it’s one that I have to be in the mood for and don’t see me wearing a ton, I’m happy to add it to the other rose fragrances in my collection, Cairo, Ombre Rose and Oud Bouquet for when I want a rose.
oooh what a great topic:D where I have also experienced big contrast of ppl loving and hating is Alien by Mugler and Black Orchid by Tom Ford^^ I guess viral fragrances that one will smell eeverywhere, while having a cloying nature to them is a good recipe for becoming "polarizing"
I have the same reaction to Santal 33. It's not a repulsive smell, it is even pleasant when you smell only a small trail of it. But this happened to me several times, it made me light-headed, it develops this metallic taste on your mouth. Mind you, I only have a 10 ml. of it yet it's been 5 years and I still cannot finish the small tube! I tried mixing and layering it with other perfumes but strangely it seems to overpower them all.
Agree with you on Angels share performance. I heard its a beast mode fragrance, but for me its moderate with weak lasting power. Really love the scent but when the performance is low its just not worth the niche pricing for me. Thanks again for great videos
for several of these, the polarization doesn’t stem from the scent itself but rather the scent's place in society (overhyped, associated with music lyrics, associated with certain polarizing men/women, etc.). The average person is very good saying what they like or don’t, but they struggle in understanding why they feel that way.
One fragrance that I don't like that most everyone else likes is By The Fireplace by Maison Margiela. I think it smells only like roasted marshmallows and is way too sweet. I like Music Festival, it has sweetness that isn't overwhelming.
Absolutely loved Angel Share on first sniff but then as the hours went by, it was just too strong and persistent and I felt like I wanted to run away from myself. Xerjoff Starlight is more for me because it is SO much more mellow. I think it’s the cinnamon that makes it have some similarity to my nose 🤷🏻♀️
I have to say, when I do wear Angels Share in the colder months, I get more enthusiastic compliments then almost any other fragrance I wear. Typically from other women.
both my mom and I adore samsara! its a classic, my partner loves it on me, my dad loves it on my mom, cant go wrong with it, BUT you only need one spritz
I personally think some of these fragrances are hated because they're either very popular that you smell it on a lot of people which defeats the purpose of having a niche fragrance, cloned, copied or inspired from by many other brands or very high priced even after reformulations and again this is my personal opinion..on the other side I found myself appreciating fragrances that i don't instantly fall in love with more than the ones that are love at first sniff...after smelling and having so many niche fragrances i started investing and appreciating indie artisinal brands more than many niche brands because a lot of the niche brands nowadays are going more towards mainstream, mass appealing and designer ish territory which i personally don't appreciate at all but again this is me I just like to stand out when i spend so much money on a fragrance...Nice video Sebastian as usual..Stay safe!
I got a Sephora sample of kilian angel's share and was instantly in love with the smell and looking it up is how I ended up seeing your videos. The price made me gag, so I bought an oil perfumery dupe that actually performed pretty similarly in my one on each wrist test and I could still smell both at the end of the day. I'm new to really shopping for perfume, reading scent notes and can't quite justify expensive perfume for myself right now. I haven't smelled any of the others you mentioned. My mom, aunt and grandma each have their own signature scent: Chantilly by Dana, Obsession by Calvin Klein and habanita by molinard. In looking at the scent notes I can see overlap of what I like with what they wear. I dislike a fair amount of women's floral fragrances. Definitely figuring out I like more warm spicy gourmands. Samplers, travel sizes and dupes are where I'm at with perfume right now.
I love Santal 33. It smells wonderful on my skin and remains throughout the day and into the evening. I loved Angel long ago but I liked Lolita Lempicka better. I think Opium by YSL could be considered polarizing.
POL was an instant love. BR540 had to grow on me, and it's still not all of that. Angel Share, I absolutely love it. The boosy/praline, cognac, and vanilla is everything for me !! Angel, I don't love or hate it. I will say it is a power house of a smell.
With the disclaimer that I am not a fan of rose scents, I felt I would be remiss if I didn’t sample Delina, since everyone gushes about it. Well, I can tell you, I still don’t like rose scents. It reminds me of the sachet paper used to line drawers. My best friend came over and the spray sample was sitting on the table. She asked me to remove it becuase she found it so awful and overpowering. As they say, if everyone liked the same things, the lines would be pretty long.
yeah pls do more of these videos pls. I am also not so fond of many of these fragrances. Aventus, not a fan of that DNA so don't care, Smelled DHP in 2019 in Europe only and felt like too bitter and smokey unnecessarily without any pleasant facets but not sure how would i feel now if i again try it. Potrait, i dont like as i felt it''s quite boring and had smelled some cosmetics prducts with that kida smell tbh before. Layton, where do i start, i could exactly point out which mainstream designer fragrances it smells like in parts. From the opeinig to the dry down..u get many common frarance DNAs in it and surprisingly the fragrance it is said to be most similar to by majority which is boss bottled is far beter smelling fragrance imo and this wasn't any similar either! All of the PDMs i've tried so far hv been disappointment and i feel the house is extremeyly overrated as a niche house! BR540 also, i dont like that much sweetness and ambroxan heavy thing! I can add more popular names like feve del dior, amouage reflection/jub25, hacivat, oajan, memo african leather and many more to the dont like or can't stand list!... :) sorry for the long answer.
I am a lady who LOVES Dior Homme Parfum. I actually bought Dior Homme Intense for my partner to wear, so I could selfishly smell it more often (but he loves it too). I like Oajan better than Angels Share on myself...Angels Share is way too strong on me for my liking. I think my own hot take would be Delina...definitely not for me.
Angel Share lost a long time on me and love it! Love it during colder weather but interested to see how it does in the Texas heat. And I love BR540 Extrait cause I can smell it but I do have the original.
BR540 makes me nauseous. Wore it for a few days. At first I couldn’t even smell it then it exploded & I got nauseous. The exact same thing happened with Santal 33. I sampled these both for days and they both continued to make me feel sick.
I have heard people say that the DH Intense is too feminine and I imagine that some might think the Parfum could be, but I do not and am a child of the 80's with all those masculine scents. Used to wear Lagerfeld, Obsession and Drakkar. That leather helps take it to another elegant, classy level and makes it much more masculine to me. Might be polarizing but I've never had someone tell me it doesn't smell great.
Baccarat Rouge 540 - First time I smelled it, hated it. Saw it again and loved it - couldn't understand why. Then I realised that there was an EDP and an Extrait - that was why!! Really didn't like the EDP but love the Extrait. One of my favourites - and I have a lot of perfume😍😍
Loved this video! Angel's Share- An utter disappointment- Straight Cinnamon. I will wear Jazz Club ANY DAY over this garbage. The bottle is so pretty though. Just bought it for first time this Christmas. Aventus- My ride or die. I think it is amazing and worth every bit of the hype. Portrait of a Lady. I do not love it, but it is really an amazingly crafted and complex scent. Its masterful- but not my thing. Everyone has to sample this one before they die. Baccarat Rouge- Count me in as a fan. It reminds me of an elegant mall in the 90's (back when malls were cool) and the smell of great colognes, baked goods, candy, and the promise of an exciting night. I find Baccarat Rouge very evocative. It weirds me out because the rather basic scent profile/ingredients smell nothing like what the product smells like. Is it the Saffron? How does this have a cotton candy vibe when nothing in it does?
I absolutely love Dior Homme Parfum. Some of my friends say they can't pull it off but they tell me that I can lol. If you're confident and dress up you will love the positive feedback you will get from people.
I agree angel share on my skin doesn't project heavy or last long that's why I wouldn't buy it again.... Such a gorgeous scent just doesn't perform I'll prefer khamrah which smells similar just has better performance and is much cheaper
I loved how Angel’s Share smelled from the bottle so I confidently went ahead and sprayed some on the back of my hand. A few minutes later, I couldn’t stand the overly ripe, almost fermented fruit smell it was giving and I had to rub it off☹️
I wonder why I enjoy most of these "polarizing" fragrances? The commonality, in my opinion, is that they are very complex scents and are noses can sometimes only process so much of a particular fragrance at any given time. There are some fragrances I hated decades ago and I like them now or my nose understands them now. Also it's how you wear it, when, where, with what, and in mood and state of mind. Mostly it is my scent mood.
Angel is an icon! I can't stand Baccarat Rouge. Angel's Share is a favorite but doesn't last on me. I layer with Jo Malone's Myrrh and Tonka and that combo is absolutely divine.
Most of the fragrances that the “fragrance world” hates, actually smell great. Self-proclaimed fragrance “aficionados” choose to hate them because they are wildly popular. Many in the fragrance world would prefer to say they like a “niche” fragrance that’s “rare” and smells like crap, just to assert that their taste is so refined, that the mainstream fragrance customer doesn’t have the taste to understand the quality. It’s just simply delusional fragrance snobbery….
My wife hates Poal on me loves Layton and gives me compliments.. I love BR540 extrait and Angel's Share on her... The trail she leaves with angel's share is amazing 1 spray it lingers minimum 12-13h...one spray of BR540 24h on her and 3 days in a bathroom...our baby is smelling on BR540 when she wears it...but just one spray
I'm surprised you didn't like the other cherry fragrances. I really like Cherry Smoke because it's less sweet and girly. It dries down perfectly and makes it wearable for me.
One popular fragrance I really don't care for is By The Fireplace. For me it smells straight up like an ashtray - I can't imagine why anyone would want to smell like that. I've seen a few reviews that compare Lune Feline to By the Fire Place. I can't get my nose on it where I am. So as interesting as it sounds when I see reviewers talk about it, I'm reluctant to get it.
Everyone seems to hype Z&V This is Her and the notes sounded absolutely delicious. Once it was on my skin, I could not handle it - it smelled like baby barf on my skin. Something about the combo of notes did not agree with me 😂
Francis K said that BR540 was a very simple formula comprising solely of aroma chemicals thus making it exceptionally easy to dupe. So if you don’t want to spend a car payment on a fragrance almost any replica will do.
Oh man I have 3 of these (Portrait, Lion, and Homme Parfum). Wonderful fragrances! Need to get my nose on Angel's Share, isn't distributed here so it'll be tough. I don't really hate any fragrances, I tend to stick to good recommendations and if I don't care for something I move on with my life. Don't think I have anything else I like a lot which is at all controversial, Interlude maybe?
I've loved Angel since it was released, less so with all the reformulation but the sillage was always beast and I don't care what others think about it. They're supposed to be bringing out a parfum version so I will be interested to try that. If you like it but want a slightly more male twist A*Men is the one you will love. I discovered Angel due to my sister in law who managed a dept store fragrance counter at the time.
can't stand Angel. Instant headache for me. I am curious by BR540 probably will risk blind buy. When I do will share my experience with the popular ;-)
In one of your video's you talked about layering duos, where you suggest combining hacivat with 100 silent ways , both perfumes mady by Nishane. Recently, I discovered that combining hacivat with the right perfume can be an amazing experience. Right now I'm using hacivat and jovoy psychedelic. Even though you mentioned in the video that you're not a fan of layering perfumes, I think you should try hacivat and psychedelic
Interesting observation about your first impressions of Baccarat Rouge. I have a running theory that Each MFK creation is poking fun at its wearer with clever dualities, and on revisiting Baccarat I think you’re right, I do now smell garbage in a factory 😄
Agree with santal33. When the salesman introduced me to it and said it's the bestseller. However when I tried the noir 29, I said its much better than the santal33. I can see his disappointment 😆
Hi Sebastian, love your work. Wondering why you didn't mention Kalan from PDM as polarising, ahead of Layton, given all the hoo haa surrounding it online when it launched. I personally love it and wear it a lot in winter, but always thought the 'love/hate' aspect of Kalan was more marketing than anything else.
Absolutely loved BR540 & Angel's Share the moment I smelled them, and everytime I do it feels like the first time. I hate Angel, probably because of the patchouli in it, this note is a nightmare for my nose.
I do believe that Portrait of a Lady is a masterpiece whoever I can’t wear it because it leans mor feminine. I have tried to mix it with other fragrances but I had no success. However I think it’s one of the all time best fragrances.
I can't find anything unmasculine about Dior Homme Parfum. Dior Homme (original) I could possibly see that, but DHP pure masculine (though I'd also be happy to smell it on a woman!)
Seb Dior homme parfum is a true masterpiece ❤️ I would have to say Aventus is definitely a fragrance that I can say I hate nothing special to me. Pleasure watching my friend hope you have a great weekend 👍
Portrait of a Lady smells awful on me. I get a sweaty / BO vibe. Off of my clothes when I sprayed it it was nice and I could see the appeal but it did not work on my skin. I tried Le Lion in an airport and thought it smelled great but my partner was instantly repelled! 😂 It had great sillage too! I am surprised Angel's Share is on this list though. It seems like a very likeable fragrance. It's an easy reach for me for autumn/winter.
Angel smells like really viscous honey to me. I didn’t like it, but I have a flanker with called angel iced star. It’s a gorgeous gourmand coconut pineapple scent, but I wish it was a perfume instead of toilettes
I have bdk540 like it when I can smell it also have tom ford lost cherry and love it but hate how it don't last had mugler Angel didn't like the smell gave it away
Aventus doesn't work on me....I think its the pineapple because I also can't wear Music for a While from Frederic Malle (makes me physically ill). I LOVE Le Lion, but understand why its polarizing....
Hey Sebastian, I must say that Baccarat Rouge has become the number 1 Fragrance in Europe right Now. I Have been in a lot of Cities for the past 2 Years and i could almost smell it on everybody, which is a Nice thing. I can easily say that Aventus got Dethroned by Baccarat =)
I love Les Lion It's my style whereas anything Killian I don't care for it I like balance I don't want to feel like my fragrance is fighting for the air I breathe.
You told the exact same thing for angels’ share. I was always surprised how is everyone telling that it lasted on them for 12 hours. For me it is barely 2-4 hours. In fragnantica almost everyone voted for extreme sillage. I thought that I might get anosmic as the smell is boozy

Angel’s share does seem to be “thin”…..it doesn’t really last, does t project well. For me, it’s “ok.”
I think that many of these frags get hated because they leave the Niche world and become mainstream. It makes the collectors out there bash them.
Agree with you, brings out snobbery in full force!
Very true

That’s a good take. Are you saying that a certain person could not necessarily like a perfume but would be biased because of the hype behind it?
It's true with most things.
People often have that sheep mentality.
It's being used by certain people to socially engineer politics.
One fragrance that I don't like that most everyone else likes is By The Fireplace by Maison Margiela. I think it smells only like roasted marshmallows and is way too sweet. I like Music Festival, it has sweetness that isn't overwhelming.
I also dislike it. Who wants to smell like a walking roasted marshmellow?
I don’t like it either - it’s very cloying and smells like a cheap candle IMO
It smelled like I’d been camping for a week by a fire ( no marshmallow ) and was in desperate need to shower 🥴noooope 😂
Also not a fan.
I really like it but I’m so glad you think it’s a sugar bomb. Everyone says it’s super smokey but I don’t get that at all!

Great video with some great choices in there and I enjoyed it and have a blessed night
My PDM fragrances are Herod and Carlisle, and I seek a sample of Darley as it sounds right up my alley
Great video Sebastian.
I don’t care what people says about portrait of a lady! It will always be the mother of all.
I think that Zoologist make very polarizing fragrances. I adore Bee but many people can't stand it
My husband hates Hummingbird. HATES it.
I like Bee, but only like 2 sprays.... smells very medieval.... most people i introduce to it can't stand it
New is gorgeous ❤
Something about the combo of notes did not agree with me 😂
BDK Gris Charnel.. I wanted to love it, but something turned my stomach. Next day smelled it on my sweater and loved it.🤷🏻♀️
I shared your initial reaction to BR540. Unlike you, however, my opinion has not changed.
BR540 disappears on me, I love Santal 33, obsessed with Lost Cherry, and Killian angel share is delicious for the holidays
Francis K said that BR540 was a very simple formula comprising solely of aroma chemicals thus making it exceptionally easy to dupe. So if you don’t want to spend a car payment on a fragrance almost any replica will do.
Source? I havnt found a dupe close enough.
And yet none of them smells the same or even really similar.
@@lansvale28 literally took two seconds to find on google. Vogue article.
@@lansvale28 orientica amber rouge
Absolutely no dupe smell like Baccarat rouge this fragrance is unreplicable. It’s unique forever
My wife hates BR540 on me. We recently went to London and Paris. Smelled that EVERYWHERE and was totally turned off. Selling my EDP now
Santal 33 not only gives me pickle vibes, it gives me ranch vibes. I never knew sandalwood could smell like dill lol
dill is in pickles and ranch dressing so that makes sense
I get dill from Santal 33 as well.
Yes that's the attitude. If I have to be forced to smell someones body odor then I can be forced to smell someones perfume!! ;)
BR540 was nice a few years back when not everyone was rinsing it. Now it’s all you can smell everywhere, ruins the fragrance
can't stand Angel.
And pls can you also make a video of perfumes that can be sprayed together (layering duo) and still smell amazing.
Have never got the Aventus hype. For me Himilaya, Royal Oud and even Bois De Portugal (a bit of a throwback) are all much better.
The Noir 29 is amazing.
BKR 540 was so good when it first launched and it was exclusively at Niemans. Everyone has ruined it for me sadly.
I can see this cause everyone wears it.
Aventus is a great one but they’re not consistent enough for the price tag
Is Oud Satin Mood EDP too Rosy
Portrait of a Lady smells awful on me. I get a sweaty / BO vibe. Off of my clothes when I sprayed it it was nice and I could see the appeal but it did not work on my skin. I tried Le Lion in an airport and thought it smelled great but my partner was instantly repelled! 😂 It had great sillage too! I am surprised Angel's Share is on this list though. It seems like a very likeable fragrance. It's an easy reach for me for autumn/winter.
I love Hyrax 🌹
Dior reminds me of lipstick and lard. MFK is one of the best and so is Aventus
I love Portrait of Lady but hate Aventus.
Nothing wrong with enjoying smelling like an old lady at a garden party
Is it me or does Dior homme parfum is rose overload?
Santal 33 … definitely not for me!!
Meloria is my favorite PDM
POAL is a masterpiece and my absolute favorite. My second fav is Lost Cherry. I never understood the appeal for Angel.
I agree with you. I never liked Angel then, and I still don't like it now...
I despise gourmand "pastry shop" scents. Very sweet, very cloying...
I love Les Lion
It's my style whereas anything Killian I don't care for it
I like balance I don't want to feel like my fragrance is fighting for the air I breathe.
You told the exact same thing for angels’ share. I was always surprised how is everyone telling that it lasted on them for 12 hours. For me it is barely 2-4 hours. In fragnantica almost everyone voted for extreme sillage. I thought that I might get anosmic as the smell is boozy
You can buy Dior Homme Parfum from major airports inside the EU.
