    Awesome review of the truck! I have a 2021 3500 High Country and I am very happy with it other than the brakes, they flat out suck and had a recall on the rear pads which still didnt resolve it! But I am surprised you do not like the LED lights, I think they are great! Especially when you need forward light or rear light when parked in a field. Also, with that big of a truck, add a train horn like I did, people will know you are coming and get out of the way!
    The bluetooth in this truck is awesome, even has a microphone above the passenger side which can be helpful at times. Im at 35k and still learning little tricks on the software side and having a ton of fun driving this truck. I prefer it over my Ram 3500 Dually which I work out of most of the time! Keep on rolling and let us know what else you find as you go!

    Take your finger nail and scratch the frame anywhere on it. You will find it as dipped in a black wax and over the next couple of years you will see it less and less. Then you will see rust The first thing to rust through is the back cross member. I don’t drive my truck in salt but they all rust after the wax is gone. I spray my frame with fluid film which has to be applied every two years. Frame coating is what they need to address being that they cost half of a house.

    • @brianburns7211
      @brianburns7211 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m about to pick up a new truck in a few days. With winter just around the corner, Fluid Film will be done soon. I’m glad that Eric O on South Main Auto turned me onto it. Last fall I applied FF to my wife’s Jeep.

    • @OscyJack-
      @OscyJack- ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tbh the wax is still the best of the bunch. Working in the rust belt, I always prefer a 10 year old gm to similarly aged ram or Ford. GM seems to use a higher grade fastener.
      Yeah, the wax is semi permanent. The frames on the 2500hds tend to outlast the body even when the coating is gone. You can always reapply it, or apply undercoating, fluid film, nh oil etc

    The one small feature that I really like on my 22 High Country 3500 SRW LB, if you are towing with the Tow Haul turned on, and shut down for fuel, to eat or whatever, if you start up within 4 hours, the Tow Haul is still active. I had a 2006 SLT 3500, I pulled a 5th wheel to Alaska and back to Florida, and was stopping for fuel 5 and 6 times a day (you don't want to pass an open fuel stop), and a couple times I forgot to turn the Tow Haul back on and the transmission temp would climb. I had an 18 Denali Dually and you had to turn it back on also. The 2022 High Country 3500 SRW is the best by far of the 3 Duramax trucks that I've owned. All were LB, the Dually was good for towing but not very good for shopping trips etc. I really liked your review

      Just an FYI, I have a GMC Sierra AT4 3500, and it came with a tiny fuel tank. You can drop on a Titan fuel tank for much greater range. My 36-gallon fuel tank was anemic when pulling my 42-foot fifth wheel, so I dropped in a 56 gallon. You can go larger with your 8 foot bed...

      Funny you should mention the Tow/Haul mode. My F150 tells me every time I start it that I have a trailer attached but I have to manually change drive modes. Quite a small but rather annoying technology gap.

    Fog lights are designed for foggy conditions and bright lights in fog are counter active for visibility. It is actually a smart feature. If you have fog lights on it assumes it is foggy and thus prevent the high beams from automatically coming on and making it harder to see (if it was foggy)

    First off let me start by thanking you for taking the time to make this video. I’ve owned a very large amount of land cruisers, Range Rovers, Yukons and multiple heavy duty diesels and the one thing I’d have to say right off the bat is that you’ll NEVER get out of a decked out heavy duty what you’ll get out of a loaded out SUV or Sedan. My last GM Diesel was a 2018 LTZ and loved it but as usual I’m spoiled and switch vehicles to often due to gotta have the next best thing. Point is, I’ve never come across a heavy duty offering identical passenger suv/sedan like options BUT that being said, the 2023 heavy duty’s will be coming out with new and much more powerful diesels and the (I believe) 2023-2024’s with have newly updated interiors as well with more features that you’d be looking for. The 2023 1500 diesels will be completely upgraded with more power too which I’d recommend switching to unless of course you’re pulling or hauling a large Trailer/RV. Btw, no matter how loaded out my vehicles have been there’s always going to be “wish it had this or that” moment. Good luck and God Bless!

    Add the boost mobile car charger to the center console, also Banks has a lot out for these trucks now and they make the truck Soooo much better, derringer,pedal monster, and idash really wake these trucks up. The banks rear diff cover with amsoil is a must as well. I'm up to 17 mpg with a 12k toy hauler behind me. Go bilstein for the shocks when the ranchos bleed out at 25k. And add aire ride suspension in the back for squat and then it will pull like a dream. Agree on the interiors GM interiors are not great like you said a 98 although I think that's generous I would say 75% for 70k n up come on. Anyway great review. Thanks keep on trucking God bless TX.

    Just purchased my 2500HD Duramax Chevy yesterday. A lot of time researching about getting the gasser or diesel. I figured I have a RV trailer now, if I get diesel, I will no longer struggle going uphill with my 18 1500 at 4MPG at 45 MPH with the little 5.3 screaming. Awesome truck, LT w/z-71 package, although I was not wanting Z-71, but its what they had in stock. This motor is a beast. Mine is the Blue with black interior. Lots of features for LT, (basically ALL-Star package). Plenty of what I want. Dealership was awesome. I know its not the best time to buy, but, I wanted/needed a 2500 that can pull an RV.

I will get me some LED Rock lights and hook them up to the dome light fuse in panel and mount them under the dash. Should be easy fix. Mine came with the Halogen headlights and I plan on replacing with LED's. There is a youtube video on how the get your fog lights to stay on with high beams that I saw a while back. Good review. I’ve got the ‘21 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4 w/the 6.6L gasser. Love it! Terrible gas mileage but better than I expected, 13-15 city, 17-20 hwy. I haven’t experienced most of the issues you mentioned but you nailed the 3 things that drive me nuts: HUD is visible with polarized glasses but just barely. Defiantly not an ideal situation. The rear view camera is an awesome feature for almost doubling your view behind you but for me to use it I have to take off my glasses, ugh🤦‍♂️. And the #1 issue is indeed that sorry ass clown horn. My wife’s Jeep Grand Cherokee sounds way better than this thing. And they have that whimpy ass thing tucked in the passenger side so well surrounded by metal that I’ve actually had people on the drivers side drift into my lane and never hear the horn. Anybody know of a good horn upgrade that isn’t a air horn? Bet you could make a fortune selling them.

The side view mirrors on my 2016 Silverado Duramax are good as mirrors however, in my opinion, they are the worst feature of the truck because at intersection or parking areas when I need to see through the side window, a big portion of the view is obstructed by the mirrors. I adjusted the driver's seat all the up till my head was at the ceiling but it's impossible to see over the giant mirrors. Thanks for your observations. I agree with most as an owner of a 2020 2500 Gas 6.6L version, lots to love with this new design and brother-in-law who just purchased a 3500 gas unit and loves his too, especially the noticeable increased power over his 2015 6.0L gas. Yes, if GM could simply add a few dollars or use those more wisely it would be towards seat comfort. One gripe for me (and my wife) are the seats; dam hard seats. No where as comfortable as our former Ram truck seats in which we could drive for 5 hours straight without butt fatigue or soreness. Now after two hours, they’re truly uncomfortable especially when you dial in the fact that an HD truck is stiffer in many ways. I’ve purchased a gel pad for each front seat to help with this. But hey, I’ve found GM vehicle seats from way back into the ‘80’s to be of “poor” comfort, support and reliability. Take care from Edmonton (Oilers country LOL). Robert

The great bed steps use them every time i get in bed, great idea Chevy. Ford just started doing bed steps in 2023. The camera down angle to hitch is great, with the two other backup camera controls for backing.

    After I wash my 2020 2500HD I just raise the hood to get rid of the water because I'm to lazy to drill a hole where the water collects, but there are TH-cam videos on how and where to do it. If you read the owners manual (which you obviously have not) you'll see how to get the outside temp on the instrument cluster. It's in a sub menu using the selector switch on the right side of the steering wheel. You can select time, outside temp, or direction (North, South, East or West) if memory serves. I will have 100,000 miles on my High Country by the end of the week and aside from normal maintenance I've only had to replace the coolant overflow bottle due to a bad sensor. Best truck I've ever owned by far. Take care of it and you'll be happy for many years to come. The one thing I wish I would have gotten sooner is the Banks Derringer with the Idash. Check it out when you get a chance. Happy Truckin.

      I have an LTZ. I see in the submenu where I can check and uncheck the box for the compass on the driver information center. It is the only option, in that submenu. There is no option for temp (only compass) which is already displayed on the HUD and on all 3 navigation apps (GM, Apple Maps and Waze). So, I can get the compass displayed in 3 locations but the temp is only displayed by exiting out of CarPlay.
      With that said, another commenter says there is a new software update that among other things addresses the AutoHigh Beams and Driving Light issue. I've yet to take it in for that but maybe they've added the temp function into the LTZ trim submenu as you describe.
      And FYI, I read the manual cover to cover when i got the truck and have since reviewed the specific section you reference based on your comments. It's just not in there on my model! I'm an electrical automation programmer/specialist and work with PLC's and VFD's everyday....I know how to get thru menus.
      Have begun the research on the Banks products but life is VERY busy. Will probably be a while before I get around to it.

    I owned a 2020 2500 one issue I had was when I traveled behind like a garbage truck the smell would make its way into the truck. I double checked to ensure the vent was closed and even had the operation checked. everything was functional and operating correctly. My 2007 chevy suburban kept out smells but he the 2020 2500HD could not keep the smell out. One other time a car was stepping on the gas and the hight performance of the car expelled excessive exhaust smell and yes you guessed it the smell made its way into the truck and the vents was set to circulate interior air. There was an area where there was a control burn same situation and the smell made it's way into the truck. The smell of diesel fumes from other trucks would make its way into the cab of the truck as well. This was one of my major gripes. It became such an issue I had thought about trading it in and getting the 2023 - 2024 model in hopes that they indirectly fixed it. no one has complained about this and Chevy did not have nothing on record about this complaint either. Once while travelling from North Carolina to Arizona my Map kept having me make Uturns on the high way. I had to take my phone out to verify my location and direction. Only happened once. I enjoyed my truck like you. I added a gun safe, bed cap from Leer, brighter light bulbs for high beam and low beams. I was going to add, under seat storage in the back seat, and decked storage system for the truck bed.

      @@oldguyobservations8724 I do have the Diesel engine and I get between 20 and 22 mpg on the highway when not towing. My overall average with the truck is 16.9 mpg which includes a fair amount of towing trailers for work and our 5th wheel camper.

    Great review - from another old dood.
    On my 5th Duramax, have a 2020 High Country.
    Ordering a 2024 as soon as the order will be accepted.
    - had to order non-polarized Oakley's
    - dislike the rearview tech pkg. Old style mirror is fine. Video screen mirror is just weird.
    - Adaptive cruise / Sun Roof / Speed sensitive wipers / footwell lights - no need for me at all.
    - Floor mats, get the new style GM fitted mats. They are perfect & don't budge.
    Exceptional truck with spectacular towing & load capabilities. Which ultimately what it is used for...
    Tech stuff in vehicles is getting stoopid. We all need to return to analog. My2cents.
    Horn is ridiculous.

    My 2022 Ford Lariat Diesel has the same short comings. It doesn't even automatically adjust the headlight depending on load on the rear axle. One has to manually adjust the headlights with a screwdriver or otherwise blind upcoming traffic when towing. This on a vehicle that is designed to tow!

      We've got a lightweight fiberglass 5th wheel (5500gvwr- Escape 5.0). If memory serves me, the tongue weight is about 625lbs and with some other junk, I think we are probably under 850 in the bed with that. I know lots of people go to aftermarket airbags and if I consistently towed heavy loads at night, I would probably go that route. As of now, my landscaping material (heavy stuff) has all been during the day.

    I just don’t think I could buy a modern diesel truck these days. Aside from the increase in diesel costs as of late, all of the upkeep when parts start breaking just isn’t worth it to me. Not to mention all of the emissions crap that just restricts these engines, I’ll take the naturally aspirated 6.2L.

      Glad you liked it! Pretty rough on my first attempt...ha!
      I actually purchased it at John Elway Chevrolet. When I originally placed the order in 2021 they were still part of the Costco Auto program. By the time the truck came in, they had not renewed their 2022 membership but they made good on it. They took $2,500 off of sticker and gave my me the Blue Book trade on my Ford Fusion which had actually increased from early 2020 of $10.4 to $15.5 by October of 2021....go figure and crazy times!!

    So I’m a little annoyed and now have several questions in regards to what upgrades comes with what packages? I also have a 2022 Chevy 2500HD Z71 LTZ Duramax Midnight Edition (I know yours isnt the Midnight Edition) and here’s what mine DOESN’T have compared to yours;
    no auto tailgate up
    no auto-brights
    no sunroof
    no rear view mirror camera
    no HUD
    Maybe I don’t understand how the packages exactly work but that kind of sucks because my sticker was $74,000 over here in the peoples republic of Commiefornia. Anyways lol great video, very informative, in fact when I get off work I’m checking my windshield wipers because i didn’t know there wasn’t a speed setting!? WOW. If I may give 1 critique I would love to see more Picture in Picture video of things you’re describing or talking about in the video, I’m a visual learner and like to see exactly what people are talking about. GREAT VIDEO!

      Hey Hugh,
      I ordered my truck with the LTZ Premium package. It is/was a bunch of packages thrown together and then they discount all of them a total of $1000.
      So, the auto tailgate is part of the LTZ Convenience package.
      The Auto brights are part of the Safety package II.
      Sunroof is a stand alone option.
      Mirror camera and HUD are bundled in the Technology Package.
      However, all of the above packages are a subset of the LTZ Premium Package.

    • @HughJassle
      @HughJassle 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oldguyobservations8724 thank you for responding; just so I’m not misunderstanding what you said at the very end all of the items you mentioned are a subset of the LTZ package meaning they ARE ALREADY INCLUDED in the LTZ package? If yes then somehow, for some reason I didn’t get them in my LTZ package. UNLESS you’re saying there is an “LTZ” and a “LTZ Premium” package? Thanks again. 👍🏻

    • @oldguyobservations8724
      @oldguyobservations8724  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OK, I know it is confusing but let me say the following...
      There are 5 trim levels (WT, Custom, LT, LTZ and High Country).
      Within each trim level you can add "packages". Packages are just bundled options put together.
      I chose the LTZ Premium Package with contained several smaller option packages.
      I would suggest you go to chevy.com and try building an LTZ. Just choose the first package on the "package page".

      That’s the point. My truck is 10 years old and should last another 10 with upkeep in the interior. How can EVs be better for the environment? They won’t last as long, they need minerals that are mined and the power comes from coal. My diesel truck only costs like 10k max per year. That’s peanuts to me. EVs are just the next governmental scam. The future of vehicles lies in either hydrogen or nuclear. EVs are just a scam to payoff China and you are falling for it.
