    Charlie, I like the way you cleverly slipped in a HD Pickup parking tutorial at the start of the test. The mpg itself is rather impressive but as an old timer, I am reminded that low emission Diesel engines are very much a work in progress. It is like we are reliving the first decade catalytic converters were introduced to gasoline engines. 🤔

    Something else to consider, winter diesel has a different formulation to prevent gelling and will give you slightly less efficiency. Interesting to see the same test in the summer. Good video

    I have a 2022 Denali Duramax and I have owned 8 duramax trucks since 2005 and this truck does have plenty of power but MPG is not good at all compared to previous models. I average 11.6 in the city and maybe 15 on the Hwy and towing my side by side I get 11.4. which really stinks . I have also had a 2020 1500 Duramax and it was getting 15 MPG pulling the same trailer and side by side and it didnt struggle pulling it. .

      I don't know where you live and drive but down here in the South, you'd get ran off the road going that slow. Is your truck a 4wd? I'd be lucky to get 19 in my 2012 3.5 Ecoboost 4wd with 3.73s in the summer time. Plus I don't see a difference when going 70 and 77. If you go too slow while it's in overdrive, you lug the engine, forcing the turbos to push a lot of boost without locking out an overdrive gear. When you go too fast, the wind resistance really starts taking its toll. There's like a balanced sweet spot where you're hardly pushing any boost and the NA horsepower is enough to run efficiently without working too hard against the wind.

    20 MPG in the diesel, is the diesel worth the $10K extra over the gas engine with the gas engine getting 15 MPG? Even with diesel being $5 per gallon?

    • @jaysson1151
      @jaysson1151 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the $50 million question! I guess it's only worth the diesel if driving range per tank is what you're more worried about. There's nothing worse than have to pull your bigass trailer into the "pedestrian" gas pumps with all the other cars and mom-mobiles instead of the truck lanes every 200 miles. Plus there are aftermarket fuel tanks available but for diesel only.

    • @liberteenfamille3191
      @liberteenfamille3191 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Diesel means more torque + diesel exhaust brake. It's also fuel economy when towing + when empty. That gas version also has a shitty 6 speed that can't compete with the new 10 spped Allison in terms of smootness. Can't compare only fuel price.

    • @311hitwall
      @311hitwall 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@liberteenfamille3191 Right but you also have the $10 higher starting price plus the maintenance costs of a diesel. I guess if you tow over 10K lbs every week the diesel probably is the way to go.

    • @jaysson1151
      @jaysson1151 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@liberteenfamille3191 yes the gas version is hamstrung by that 6-speed as well as the 3.73s. At least the old 6.0L Vortec had 4.10s with the 6-speed. That was a bulletproof combination. If they would at least offer the 10-speed Allison and more gear ratio options the same way Ford does with the 10R-140 Torqshift with the 7.3 Godzilla V8, then it would be a much more capable truck.
      If you're not planning on towing heavy for long distances and you're just needing a 3/4 ton for its payload and better towing compared to a 1/2 ton, then the gas engine will do fine. A diesel is overkill if you're gonna occaaaaasionalllllyyy tow something more than 10K but less than 16k, especially on mostly flat terrain. Just look how the 2020 F250 7.3 GAS V8 with the 4.30 just manhandled a 20K lb trailer up AND down the Ike Gauntlet. You're gonna tell me that's weak sauce?
