    Since this video was made my green Jades have had a several batches of baby shrimp so I have hundreds of tiny shrimp flying around in the tank now.. so please watch out for that in future videos and streams.
    Happy shrimp keeping and have an awesome Sunday remember to smash that like button.

    One of the things I learned from you and proved with my own shrimp was that substrate colors really matter. I set up my 30 gallon and everything in it is black pretty much except for the plants and the wood and my cherry shrimp are very red, some of them pretty close to painted and fire red quality I took about 10 of them out and put them in a new tank with white rocks and within about a week or two there color has gone way down, they look almost like tiger shrimp with lots of clear on them and they already look a lot more like wilds after just a week and a half or two weeks tops and the only real difference is the substrate color.
    From my experience now I think the thing that made the biggest difference in breeding was a pile of smooth rocks. I took five pieces of 2 inch PVC and glued them together and I covered it with smooth rocks and I noticed they started breathing like crazy after that, the other thing I found with cherry shrimp is overfeed them, let the snails eat it and when they have a constant food source they breed like crazy. If you do it on a regular basis you don’t have to worry about the ammonia because your filters will be used to it so it’s not really a spike of ammonia it’s just your normal amount and you’ll have enough bacteria to deal with it.

    The crushed corals are a really big key to keeping shrimp. I would lose shrimp all the time to molting issues even when feeding flake food that has calcium in it. I used ground eggshells and the molting problem stopped. The weird thing was that the eggshells needed to be grounded otherwise the shrimp don't even seem to bother with it. I guess the closer I can get calcium to a powder the better.

    I have red cherries for about 5 months in a 20gal long with inert black rock, whole red brick w holes in back corner, good bit of moss and other plants, duckweed, cholla, slate rock made caves, half almond leaf in clip on side, Marineland 20g hob with prefilter. Always use RO water mineralized 120-150 tds. Temp 74°F always. Only tank mates cobra guppy fry babies and couple assassin snails. Feed shrimp king, crab cuisine, seaweed pellets, and flake food in rotation. They seem to be living fine but not really thriving and booming. What do I need to add/change to have thriving population? Tends to get below 7ph How much crushed coral should I keep in there? Should I get hydroperoxide setup like yours? If so where you get? I know this is long but I would really appreciate your professional opinion

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Crushed coral would probably help you a lot, get some big snail in there also, all you need is a small cup of crushed coral... it works because it stops the tanks ph swinging.... shrimp love a stable ph.

    I'm quite new to the hobby of shrimp keeping (got a 13-gallon tank on Father's Day, and some Amanos), so I greatly appreciate your videos! I'm one of those unfortunate souls that "jumped right in" without thinking things through, so watching your videos on how to do things the correct way gives me lots of ideas on how I can (hopefully) makes things right from now on. My Amanos are quite happy in my current setup, but I'm prepping another tank for future shrimp (with proper cycling, bacteria, plants, etc.).
    One question for you (or your viewers): in my area (Metro-Detroit, Michigan, USA), I can't find Java moss/ferns or subwasertang (not sure if I spelled that correctly). Do you have a supplier you get it from, or should I just chance it from an online source? Based on your video, I love subwasertang and I don't even have any yet!
    Thanks again for the great videos and tips!
