Haikyuu - A True Shonen (Haikyuu!! Video Essay)

Shonen anime has always been about the perseverance throughout insurmountable obstacles and its themes of strength, fortitude and endurance has always been encapsulated in its main characters. I believe Haikyuu!! perfectly showcases all this themes. With the many journeys of Hinata Shoyo, Kageyama Tobio, Tsukkishima Kei, Oikawa Tooru, and others Haikyuu shows the journey of attaining a dream in a way thats genuine, believable, and realistic.

One thing I really like about Haikyuu, and it's partly due to it being lower stakes like you mentioned, is that the antagonists and rival schools are so easy to root for. It's so much easy to have a redemption arc when you weren't straight up evil like Vegeta, but instead just a dude who really loves volleyball too. Great analysis.

I have do many thoughts and ideas to discuss about Haikyuu and this video essay made me realize that I should get off my lazy ass, go throw my own
Karasuno Training Arc and actually create.
