Love that you did the sample footage and show us without any color correction or color grading! So rare since quite a number of reviews did with cinematic luts. I think "raw footage" is very important and helpful when reviewing a camera lens, we got to know more details, the actual one. Really appreciate your effort! Thank you so much! ps.fx30 user as well

Definitely worth a look. My Sony FX30 hits today. I have the Sony 11mm f1.8 and the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8, based on your videos.

I just got my sony 11m f1.8 last week after watching his reviews. How do you like your Sigma? My Tamron 70-300 is arriving today as well, I wanna see how it performs in sports photograph.

@@BARAKABLESSING I like the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 a lot. Very lightweight for travel and works for both photos and videos. I think that Tamron looks interesting as well. I may use my SOny FX30 for some wildlife videos, as right now I am using the Sony A74 with the Sony 200-600mm, so that 1.5x crop makes this a bit more interesting, as you always seem to need more reach but it is TOO much for travel.

Fascinating to see how far Samyang has come over the past few years. Still perhaps my favourite lens I've used from their collection would be the 16mm F2 manual focusing lens. I'm still hoping for something like an 8mm non-fisheye aps-c lens for the Sony e-mount system however that hope is fading somewhat. 😥Personally I'm not going to be investing in any cine lenses as video isn't something I do but a great review nonetheless. Keep up the excellent work.

I have the 24mm giving me focal length close to 35mm and using it on my sony fx30... this lens is amazing and would recommend them to all. Will definitely be getting the 35mm to capture portrait stills in the future.

Here's a consumer camera and three third-party lenses - followed by Hollywood quality video sequence. (Nicely filmed and edited btw!)
What a long way technology has come that you can buy such high quality gear now and produce stunning results.

It would have been nice if you could label the clips with the lens used to get that particular footage. Did you shoot on 60fps for slowmotion?

Amazing that one can get today a full setup for documentaries or video news with a professional production value for a couple of thousands dollars.

Hey Arthur! Great work with the reviews! I would love to see you explain if there are any benefits of budget video / cinema lenses such as these compared to photo lenses such as sigma 18-50 mm f2.8 for hobby / non-professional movie making in particular. That is, without any fancy cinema equipment or accessories

always doing some great reviews, to the point, honest with incredible visuals. It's exciting to see Samyang making new innovations. Sony is lucky to have them making lenses for the e mount. If only they would go the dark side and make some of this cool stuff for Fuji too, lol. Would be great if these lenses as you suggested have some add-on such as anamorphic. Looks like Blazar made the Nero with a 1.5x squeeze factor that looks very interesting.

Thx Arthur for the review. Without color grading they already look amazing. I am planning to switch from regular photo lens to cine lens. These definitely falls in my budget , but the real question is, will they render similar quality on Sony A7M3 and A7C ?

Excellent review as far as it went. It would have been even better if you also reviewed the new manual focus ring accessory, which gives calibrated distances, hard stops, and allows the lens ring to be used for aperture at the same time.

Dear Arthur. Another great video. Seeing that you have reviewed some Samyangs. Could the Samyang 24mm f1.8 be a great alternative to the Sigma 23mm f1.4? The Sammy is lighter and provides full frame coverage. 24 on FF and 36 on APSC. It would be an interesting comparison.
Also a comparison video between the Samyang 35mm f1.8 and the Sony FE 35 f1.8 on your Sony a7C. 🙏🙏🙏

  • @GlennZucman

As usual, you answered all my questions! I think that front adapter, which seems to be US$300 now, is essential. Without it, they look like they're regular old AF lenses, not cine lenses. Although the consistent and small size and weight is great. I feel like to be a "Cine Lens" it should have both a focus ring and an aperture ring, they should both have markings, and they should both be geared. The switch that lets you flip between focus ring and aperture ring is clever and innovative, but not as good as having both rings. The built in tally light is awesome!

They are awesome and the prices have come down drastically after the release of GM lens. Some of them have a better AF than sony and and really close focusing distance and the great zeiss pop bokeh! You should definitely check them out!
