Very useful video, just replaced rear pads and park brake shoes on a D4, two small additional tips I found, when refitting the shoes, if you put a cable tie around the bar between the shoesit can hold the spring on and you can pull on the free tail to help locate it on the second shoe. The second tip is, ther is actually two small indents in the outside edge of the back plates which correspond to the positions of the adjuster and the allen bolt, hope these help.
At 2'45 I can see a "U" clip in the wrong direction (always the closed end to the adjustment wheel). I should have like to get some explanation about the "bias" springs (Orange on left, green on right) that are supplied with kits but never explained in videos.
My EPB has jammed on my discovery 4 2013 model. I can't even drive it to the garage. I've pulled and yanked at the wire loop under the cup holders and it comes out about 3 inches but I don't hear any bang and it doesn't release the EPB, I've tried taking the 30 amp fuse out and disconnecting the battery. ..Nothing. People are telling me to cut the cable and just leave it in park and don't ever use the handbrake switch. Why does this EPB jam on in the 1st place? Does it happen after a certain milage? I had new brakes done shoes pads discs and part of the cable at a local garage in April for it's MOT, it's been driving ok until the other night this brake jammed on and won't release! I looked under the car and I think I've got a leak of either gear oil or brake fluid and I can see in between the two back wheels below the epb unit in the centre a little drip and wetness. I reached under put my fingers on the damp patch and it looks like a sort of clear liquid. It felt like a watery oil but not quite the consistency of pure oil. It also smelled like it had a fragrance to it! I'm unsure if maybe a brake pipe has a leak or the dif has a leak and the car has sensed something and applied this EPB or somethin! Should I cut the cable?
Hi, how do you reset the park brake after pulling the emergency cable under the cup holder ? i had to pull it in the lake district, the shoes need replacing and the brake jammed on at hardnotts pass so had to pull the lever.. now i have no e brake and the just get the crazy actuator noise hen i pull the switch and the no handbrake warning... i plan to change discs and pads all round as the warnings on and change the shoes, just don't know how to reset the module
The crazy noise when the EPB is engaged may have been due to the gears in the brake module being shredded which is probably why it locked on in the first place. This can be caused by a build up of brake dust in the hub causing the drum brakes to get jammed on. Unfortunately this means the EPB module has to be removed and have the cogs replaced. I also give the drum brakes and surrounds a good clean out to get rid of all the dust build up, otherwise the same can happen again.
Can (should) this adjustment be made as a precautionary measure when not actually changing any parts? New owner so just be nice to avoid problems down the line if possible. ✌🏽
To adjust or to service replacing brake shoes you need to put the EPB into mounting position and transmission in neutral after you finish all the work including adjustments you need to put the EPB in latching mode which will exit properly. The key most critical step after that is adjusting the knurl from fully locked out to exactly 10 clicks lock IN and than loosen the adjuster screw half turn tab the rotor with rubber Hammer and than tight the adjuster screw. After that you have to perform break bed in procedure which these guys have posted excellent video but remember to cool down your brakes during the process

The Allen screw mechanism was so confusing as to it's use until this video. Thanks!
Glad it helped !
Just in case no one's mentioned it here, the backing plate has tiny notches in its edge to indicate where the adjusters are.
Yes I was about to say the same there are little notches in the backing plate which indicates where the adjustment screw and knurl adjuster is

Yep you’re correct Haynes manual says “closed end must be facing towards adjuster wheel”

5:42 _Loosen_ shoes by turning notches *_up_*
Thanks - I am feeling the love !!

Very well explained as usually Thank you.
thanks for the video how many newtons the torque wrench was set to
What’s the answer? How many newtons did you set it to

Should I cut the cable?
what did u end up doing?
Before starting this procedure, Do i need to let the gear position neutral? Thanks for nice vid.
Thanks guys. Nice job
great video, thank you!
You are welcome!
fantastic

Hi - honestly I am not 100% sure but you could try a battery disconnect ?

Do u do the adjustments with handbrake on or off
With the handbrake off
Done all that when handbrake activate slight noise them coming on but nothing as much as when removing key before changing shoes etc

To adjust do you have to put epb in service mode first?

I’d love to do this but I know zero mechanically minded people who could assure/assist 😔 which means I’m out
