      Thanks for taking the time to write it, its a fantastic reference. I mostly use the factory manuals but thought it worthwhile to include yours as well for benefit of others

      @@popsbmw ideally with both off the ground but it can be done with one off the ground at a time if the car is in neutral so the wheel can turn. 👍🏻

      @@popsbmw yes although you’ll either need to leave the ignition on (which will for sure flatten your battery) or you need to lift the small plastic cover behind the EPB switch and put your finger in towards the D on the gear selector and find a small white lever that you push up to allow you to put the car into neutral (assuming RHD car).

    Nice video Shane. I’m going to do this job next weekend, provided it’s not snowing here in UK 😎

    I think the procedure at the beginning was only to ensure the park brake was off (required for manual transmission cars), rather than actual service mode which gives you a bit more cable to play with

    • @Shanes_Shed
      @Shanes_Shed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've just followed the LR service notes, dont think they gave any difference between manual and automatic.

    • @AndyK.1
      @AndyK.1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Shanes_Shed Manuals will engage the park brake when removing the key. That’s what you are preventing happening there. (By holding the epb switch down).

    • @AndyK.1
      @AndyK.1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Shanes_Shed With a diagnostic tool you can set service mode, which I believe gives you more wriggle room on the cables when removing the shoes, and makes it much easier.
      There is a complex manual method, but I didn’t get it to work.

    • @Shanes_Shed
      @Shanes_Shed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andy K I'll have to dig into my IID tool when I get home from work and find the park brake service mode option in there I think

    Great vid mate gow did you find the slotted rotors did it make a difference

    • @Shanes_Shed
      @Shanes_Shed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bit hard to give a straight answer Ryan as I swapped to akebono pads with the rotor change. Previous to that I had the standard rotors with DBA pads. I remember I needed more brake pressure when cold, but that was probably more the pads than the rotors. I feel that they are an improvement once the rotors are hot - which living in the hills is not hard to do

    • @OUTBACKDiscovery
      @OUTBACKDiscovery 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Shanes_Shed yeah when I was running dba rotors and pads I noticed the same thing , I now run dba rotors and then bendix pads which made a difference

    Hi Shane just found your video because I am looking at buying a disco3 currently own a disco 2 with a worn-out engine $8k to rebuild i am 70 and I like the adjustable air suspension and comfort on the d3/4 the vehicle i am looking at has app 200k on the clock i know it's a hard question but am i buying a potential money pit or are they worth it THANKS SHANE

      The air suspension is probably one of the best things about the D3/4 in my opinion. I’m actually planning a video that will answer your question. I can only account for my personal experience which is it’s a money pit

      I’m not 100% sure on what needs doing there mate as I’ve never had to play around with mine. I wouldn’t be surprised is there is something that needs resetting/calibrating. I’ll have a read if my manuals and see what I can find for you

      So obvioulsy the workshop manuals don't have a section for replacing the handbrake actuator plastic gears. However they do have the procedure for replacing the whole lot - final step "Using T4, calibrate the parking brake actuator." If you have a Gap IID you'd be able to do it with that
