Great video, saved my bacon! Replaced cables, shoes & gears in control unit but couldn't get the park brake to work. Tried this & it worked first time. Never come across anything like this in 20 years in the truck trade! Thanks Guys. Read Bodsys guide as well, very concise & easy to follow.
Helpful video lads. Regarding the cooling, it's not just the shoes and discs that need to cool, the motor in the EPB also needs time to cool as it's in a sealed box.
Great video and I am going to give this a go. I have an L320 3.6 and I have to pull the EPB twice to engage properly as on first pull it is too weak. Now it has failed the MOT because the one pull isn't enough. Any ideas on what that could be? I have adjusted the sprocket thing but not the hex bolt/wedge.
Thanks for taking time to do this video, I have a manual gearbox disco 3 so would I just get to the correct speed and pull up hand brake lever and press clutch at same time to coast until the car stops with the hand brake?
Hello there I just tried this sequence yesterday only difference is my 2012 Range Rover sport L320 TDV6 it shows EPB Service Mode NOT brake bed in like yours is it the same or not? Press brake pedal 3 times hold on 3rd and pull EPB switch 4 times up and 3 times down within 10 seconds ? Is it same ?
Doing the process creates super bunch of heat. Even if you where in freezing conditions the volume of heat being generated is shocking. Don't believe me try putting your hands on the shoe housing. When bedding in new shoes take your time doing this. It is likely to take over am hour to do!
I wonder what makes these brakes special than lets say a normal vehicle, normally you put new rotors and pads and test drive it very slow in a a parking lot and let everything get "set in" , makes me wonder why there are so many stories on the internet forums about people having to change pads at 17 thousand miles on a brand new discovery, would pulling the epb while the vehicle is driving akin to what we used to do in the old days while doing donuts on a car and pulling on the handbrake? well some of us that are "older" ( something thats definitely not good for the brakes)
These drag the rear pads for stability etc and are used for hill assist. Being a heavy automatic with no engine braking they are hard on discs and pads. In this video he is bedding in the rear brake shoes, not the rear brake pads however
No squeaking because you are glazing the shoes i think. Vehicle weighs over 2 1/2 tonne that is a lot of energy converted to heat.i think the cooling is very important but like you say this for demonstration.
I run a 2011 D4, The frickin handbrake module failed!- had a new fitted but dont use it !! just leave it in park!!- hence No More Land Rover Bullshit !!
Land Rover require to lose their business for all of this nonsense. The beauty of Land Rover was that the vehicles were made for easy maintenance. Also the way Discoveries corrode is ridiculous, the bracket that holds the electric brake unit requires the bolts chiselling off as they are so corroded. The plate should be stainless and the fixings should be greased. Nice cars to drive though. Great video guys Thanks.
Yes i have been there and done that - the electric mounting plate for the handbrake is a pain ! The new systems with motor on caliper are pure genius ! This system with half cable and half motor was not a great phase !
As promised here is the link to the "brake bible"

Thanks for the info!
Unbelievably awesome video gents. Much more informative than any manual!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much :) from us here in the USA cheers mate.
Glad to help
nice one lads, ive got to do the module, shoes, discs & pads on mine so this is very helpful
Sooo helpful, and funny too. Awesome. Real people fixing real problems. Thanks also to Bodsey, I am just going with the videos!
Excellent video. Thanks
As always great video, keep them coming and thanks very helpful
Thanks for the informative video. Do I need to do this if I only replace the rear brake discs? Thanks.
Great brake bible superb job done!!

Not sure - if the shoes look ok should be OK unless the actuator has gone - lets hope its not that !

excellent video.....how do you do it on Discovery 3 6 Speed manual?
One question : No need to bed it in if it's the same shoes? (I've cleaned it all and I'm reassembling it all). Thanks for that very useful vid.
I guess it is less essential but cant see it would do any harm !
Is this needed when you have replaced the front and rear discs and pads? or only if you replace the the hand brake shoes?
Hi - this is only for the handbrake shoes
Great video I have a question though is this process required if you only change brake rotor and pads and not the park brake shoes ?
No - just drive carefully for the first few miles...
How many times should you stop. When stopping, should the brakes be pulled or pulled Hand break ??
i think in the video i say you need to this 10 times ! dont use the foot brake .. you need to solely use the hand brake !
Doing the process creates super bunch of heat. Even if you where in freezing conditions the volume of heat being generated is shocking. Don't believe me try putting your hands on the shoe housing. When bedding in new shoes take your time doing this. It is likely to take over am hour to do!
I believe you..
Have you had any issues with the handbrake since breaking them in 12 months ago
No but i have not done that many miles in her.

Same for 2007 D3 TDV6 base model ? Thanks
should be the same
Great video?
