      Yomitan realistically takes only 2 minutes to setup, Migaku's setup time is much longer tbh, but the millage you get out of it is much more than Yomitan as well.
      If it took you longer than 2 minutes to set up Yomitan you probably just didn't watch my tutorial on it.
      These are not tools you have to choose between, you use them both depending on the situation.

    I got out of Japanese the last few years and coming back around to it at the beginning of the year I was frustrated with the missing features of Migaku Current. It's very refreshing to find out that I can just go back to a system I had great success with. I do hope Lucas and team will hit their target feature set with the new version, but until then I'll consider signing back up for Legacy. Thanks for your comparison! You'll see many people who end up paying for the software without actually knowing how to use it (and you'll see many of those people in the comments here too)

    • @JouzuJuls
      @JouzuJuls  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The $10 would be going to the fact that Migaku can identify the sentences with singular unique unknown words and target those for mining without you having to manually choose each word.
      Thus being able to mining in the most efficient way possible while being able to track your progress with each piece of media. This is something that JPDB cannot do, and again, as stated in the video, *automatic batch mining* is the purpose of Migaku.
      Not to mention Migaku works on text sites as well which JPDB does not.

      It in fact does parse text, and does so quite accurately. From my short trial with Migaku, the parser wasn’t matching the readings just as well, and I had to manually edit many of the cards.
      Not to mention, it slowed down my browser a lot and caused multiple crashes which Yomitan doesn’t.
      So I wouldn’t be considering it in the near future unless Migaku developers prioritise software optimisation over their time-sinking aggressive marketing efforts + market expansion

      Yeah, videos like this perplex me sightly, because most of the negatives and missing features will be fixed later on, making the video outdated.

      @@mktwos I mean that's exactly what I said in the video- the missing features will be added eventually.
      But as of now- they aren't there, and the legacy version still works. Furthermore the devs do not put priority on stuff like the Migaku Player, which is IMO Migaku's strongest tool, since most people don't know how to use it.
      This is exactly why this video takes a fair approach to comparing the features of both versions.
      Also I'm not going to without information about how to batch mine effectively just to wait for Migaku to *someday* update their software.

      @JouzuJuls  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      99% of people who say they hate Anki have not been using it correctly to begin with, and instead of learning how to correctly use it, decide to hate a piece of software... quite a strong emotion to have don't you think?
      If you learn to use Anki correctly, there is very little reason to hate a piece of software that can teach you at least 1 new word a day at the cost of less than 5 minutes.
      And at an advanced level, there is very little reason to hate a piece of software that tracks all the words you know so you can then use it to highlight the words you don't know.
      Perhaps it may be beneficial to look into Anki again and see if you've been hating it for all the wrong reasons 🤔🤔

    • @Mobik_
      @Mobik_ 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@JouzuJuls I have been studying Japanese for more than 2 years. Without Anki I'm already getting ready to do N2 as I passed the previous levels. Anki is just a regurgitated way to brute force words into your brain... what's really the fun of that? Anki is a nihilist way to learn a language. I learn WAY more by talking with my Japanese language exchange partner and the books I read as they hold strong contexts and emotions that I can link to words when I search them in my brain. Anki removes much of the context, even if you create cards that include a screenshot and an example sentence... that's not the way I learned English when I was a teenager, I learned by playing video games, watching movies, watching TH-cam and talking with new friends. Yeah, I hate that software because of its nihilist nature.

    • @dat_21
      @dat_21 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Mobik_ Anki IS the shortcut, and the only one that actually works. In english you don't have to deal with kanji, and with that vocabulary acquisition becomes easy. In Japanese if you don't know 1.5k kanji (preferably closer to 3k), you aren't reading. If you need to look up a word every other sentence, you aren't reading. And with vocabulary level of N2 (6k words or so), you will definitely encounter unknown words very often. Anki just shortcuts this stupid stage where you need to look up tons of words.
      Although I must add that it requires a lot of discipline. And in the end it's the reading that will make you better at the language. Anki just shortcuts the path to reading.

I'm not in a race and I feel like 2 years to achieve doing N2 is already fast by itself... every time I go to the exams, I already see many people even doing N3 after 4 years or so. I don't have the need to rush, I have pleasure in the whole process knowing is going to take me my entire life. I read actual paper books, I have fun chats with Japanese people, and I enjoy Japanese content. I don't mind looking at dictionaries every time I encounter a new word because it is part of the process. I do keep track of the amount of effort that I put in Japanese on each "skill" because I want to know which I'm lacking and I should pay more attention. I average 3 to 4 hours of Japanese every single day, Monday to Monday... I think I'm doing more than fine.

      THB... people like you make me hate Anki. Why removing the whole beautiful process of learning? Why a shortcut? Why gamifying? Failing is the way to learn... the same way of learning how to ride a bicycle, you fall many times until you know how to do it. The beauty of a language is in all that, and Japanese is an amazing language to spend hours just by looking at why a Kanji came to be, why a verb came to be, etc
