It would work if in place of native box recovery you installed TWRP recovery and tried to install the new system using this new recovery method
That's on idiots level, who don't know anything about electronics. Real problem are manufacturers who are producing clones TV boxes, not compatible with any official firmware. My advice, don't buy cheap android TV boxes.
There is no such thing as Official Firmware. Firmware is an abstraction layer that connects the OS to the physical hardware, every box is totally unique. AndroidTV boxes are different from Android TV boxes. AndroidTV, like Nvidia, is a market place and they keep you updated... it is a good bet.
@@PeterC408 I don't need your lecture, have over 40 years experience in electronics, especially in satellite communications. You didn't address TV boxes clones. Misleading package doesn't tell people what's inside. That's causing any firmware update ending in brick box.

my box stuck on the logo. resting it came up with (fail to mount cache I/o error) and doesn't reboot. now I have another working box (twin the broken one) can I download the firmware to an sd card from the working one and install it to the broken one?

Please someone can help me I bought a tv box h96 max plus it worked perfectly well suddenly since yesterday it remains in the boot page : blue led lights up and the image H96 MAX+ appears then the 4 balls that move without displaying the start page. I looked on google and on TH-cam how to reset and flash with firmware "RK3328_H96_MAX + _HS2734_8.1.0_20181008.2210.img" without result he does not want to get reset and for the firmware I tried with "rochchip batch tool v1.8" it gives the message:

Set not working. I have doe this many times as I repair these. Now, with I hit rest and then power, the power does not come on to boot. No power. Must remove probe and then powers on to logo but freezes.

You cannot flash into stock recovery buddy.. even a simple ver of android need costom recovery to flash firmware .

If no pinhole you might try just unplugging power and when plugging back in try holding down the power button on boot.

Not unless the manufacturer provided it. See when you get a FireStick or Nvidia Shield they keep it up to date because it is a market place. Box manufacturers don't care. If you bought it as Android 4.1, it will stay there. I really like the Roku Sticks with the microphone search. You can ask it for anything and it will tell you all the places you can stream it and if it cost money, all the prices from all the sources! htis manufacktur always update and upgrade device they make . can I use firmware from Khadas Edge2 to upgrade the h96 max v58. you tell us every tv box made for specific android version but Khadas Edge2 came first with andriod 12 but after one year the manufacktur upgrade it to android 13 and after to android 14.

I have an issue with a MXQ PRO 4K box. I have the exact firmware that is meant for the chip, i burn it with an IMG maker to an SD card ... But the device never reads anything. Always gives a failed to load error when I click on Update from SD CARD..?

Updating the Firmware is only possible when the manufacturer releases new Firmware... I do not see the MXQ going from Lollipop 5.1 all the way to a modern version. It's time to cut bait and get a newer box.

Dear Peter here is my other issue. Just a week back I bought a Vontar Android 11 TV Box with RK 3566 Processor, 8GB RAM and 128GB ROM. It has Excelent results, speed and Resolutions are all fine. Download files on the device is also great; however, I have a rather unique disappointment with this device. If I want to transfer a file or a folder from this Devic (which I downloaded on it or trnasferred from another device to it) to an External Drive (USB Flash or a Larger USB SSD or USB Hard Drive) then it seems that the process of transfer is in Progress (as it can be seen on the Progress Bar of my tv screen), but when the contents are shown as 100% transferred then the message comes "Failed" which means the file was not transferred and in reality the file was not transferred. This does not happen with every transfer but happens most of the time. The Size of File is irrelevent as I have tried small files of less than 200mb and larger files of 2.5GB or more. I have tried on different Target Drives with Fat32, exFat and NTFS. File system did not matter, happened with all of the drives. Sometimes, its goodluck and sometimes its not.
Also, please note that the same file which "failed" the transfer, failed again and sometimes the same file successfully transferred.
However, If I transfered a file to Micro SD card in the Device's allocated Port then no problem. All File systems on the MSD did not matter (However, I am aware of the limitation of the FAT32 file system which limits the MSD Capacity to 32GB only).
In view of foregoings, I termed it as a "Unique Disappointment".
Any thoughts, Ideas, solutions I can benefit from your valuable knowledge and experience.

I find that given the same board model e.g., k200 or n200 all android box brand's firmware can be install interchangably but doesn't it require some patch?
Each model has different resources: sound chips, processors, amount of memory, etc. All of these are defined in Firmware and proper communications from the OS to these resources are dependent on proper Firmware. That said, maybe the difference is only a Wi-Fi Bluetooth chip that you are not even using and may never notice that it isn't working.
Unfortunately this didn't work. When connected to TV or ext. computer screen it says "no signal". Tried different cables. Switched source on TV remote. But still no signal. The blue light on the box (H96 pro plus) is lit. The remote for the box. flashes red light when pressing power button. I tried using a paper clip on the reset button and the connect the power. Nothing happens.
My Docooler M9S-Pro keeps locking in the "Android is starting" Mode at "optimizing app" (Random app number) I tried updating firmware a bunch of times using the PC and USB cable. I cant get it to boot up past that screen. I tried the wipe user data steps you mentioned, but still get stuck in that screen. Any ideas? I cant find the original OS anywhere to flash it back either if anyone has the Docooler M9S-PRO 32gb Firmware please let me know... Thanks!
I have the T95Z Plus Android 12.0 TV Box. Was booting to Home Screen like it should. Now boots to KODI. I attempted the reset as done here. My Android box will not power on while holding the reset button and power at the same time. My version does not have a power button so I use the remote controls on/off button.

AndroidTV boxes have come way down in price. The good ones they are now calling GoogleTV (instead of Android). The bonus is that GoogleTV boxes stay up to date with the latest OS. No more upgrades. Also there are Amazon Sticks and Roku sticks that are based on Android but also get regular OS updates. Recommend one of these instead amzn.to/4ao8WqW (entry level 1080P) and amzn.to/3UaQFaX (4K)
i have to disagree with some of the things you say, i got a lot of different boxes with the same hardware , (Amolgic CPU, wifi chipset, ddr memory) and some of them come out from factory with different android version so what you claim about not being able to upgrade android version not true, you can upgrade and even install other tipe of android tv or tablet or even linux it all depends on what roms are developed for the device keep in mind that the rom is device specific so if an upgrade is available by all means do it it will not harm the device in any way and you get a refresh. peace...
Firmware is the devices specific software that defines you interface to audio chips, graphics chips, bluetooth and Wif solutions. I have never seen a perfect match other than the firmware that was released for it. Even FW for the H96 with 2GB vs 3GB would not work from one box to the other. Trying the wrong firmware can be a one way road.... but if there is nothing to lose, go for it.

I have a T95 android box that is stuck in a boot loop. I'm trying to go to recovery mode to do factory reset but when I do the hold reset button, plug in power, hold reset button for 20 seconds then let go. But nothing happens, the box doesn't turn on.

X96 Max I found the reset button in A/V port. Unplugged the power and pushed the rest button and held 10 seconds and plugged in the power. Held the reset 10 seconds after the power cord was installed and released. The logo came back on in the frozen state ???

What probs with power supply. Ive tested over 20 and center pin is always + and shieth is the ground. Never ever have i had a power supply fail. Always 12v or close to it. So i think thats a load of poop
Ah, that is an OC voltage. When you place a load on them is when they crap out.
I have a Q+ Android Box and i did manage to install TWRP and MAGISK on it. After Reboot then my box wont move from the Q logo... Can you help me how to get back to recovery without entering the os first?
Great video sir! I just wanted to say It's far easier to utilize adb and fastboot commands via terminal in Linux or even cmd in windows to install updates. Adb sideload is drag and drop and most Android oems offer the updates that can be flashed through two commands

Been a long time since I seen you on hope all is well so someone upgraded my Android box from Android 6 to Android 11 but then when I go into the system and settings and look at what Android version it says Android 6 now I think it is rooted and flashed as he said because when I click on when I checked the Android flash with a program it said your device has been rooted so I believe he did it right I just want to change it from 6:00 to 11:00 just in case I end up sending or selling it I'd like people to know that it does have Android 11 on there. Works pretty good. Do you know how to is there a program that I can go in there and edit and just change from 6 to 11 so that people see that it is Android 11
I really don't think this guy managed to put Android 11 onto old hardware. I think he managed to take your money. Firmware is very specialized software that ties the hardware to the operating system. It either comes from the manufacturer or someone's just guessing. Imagine putting a 454 into a Porsche. All that work that it would require for the gauges to work and for the transmission to a line that's all firmware. You can fake software on top but it's not going to work.
I have also tried factory reset but nothing changed yet, still its switches to restricted profile. I've also tried to wipe data which is hard reset but still situation unchanged.
I'm trying to update firmware with windows pc, when I open factory tool and connect box to pc with usb and pressing reset button with toothpick it nothing shows up sometimes it shows 'USB does not recognized' and sometimes it shows 'maskrom fail to download boot' Please help.

Have you tried holding the "not a reset button" while you apply power? And keep holding it. If no lights, no signs of life, it could just be dead.

Lots of these android boxes use a version of TH-cam that uses an API Key to access content. There are millions of boxes and everyone is using the same keys so after a few hours it turns off. Sorry, there's no universal firmware because there is no universal hardware. Best is to get a new box that will last a bit long because it gets updated. The only way to do that is with an AndroidTV box, which is different that a box running Android for your TV. My favorite is the Nvidia Shield amzn.to/3sGzLR6 I have had one of mine for going on 7 years. Still updated because it is a market place (they have a reason to keep you updated which Android boxes never had).
Are you able to assist me. In South Africa we have a streaming service known as showmax. It won't stream on my TV box as it says it appears to be rooted. It isn't. How would I fix this?? I downloaded apks to unroot or cloak it and all advise its not rooted

Turning off on its own could be a thermal issue. Does it rattle when you shake it?

I tried to factory reset my android T99 tv box from setting it starts to erase but keep on showing erasing on the screen, after around 10 min it shows error and restart erasing...keeping this way.

In all honesty... don't waste your time. Android 7 was last updated in 2015. Since October 2021 we have been on Android 12. If you like the world of TV boxes, do yourself a favor and invest in a box that will keep updated "forever"! Get the Nvidia Shield. It is an amazing box with an amazing remote... and Nvidia keeps it updated because it is a market place for Nvidia. i had bought several m8s boxs with android 4.4.2 for myself and friends 6 months later android went to 5.0 now alot of apps wont work. i have seen a few places that say they can update from 4.4.2 to 5.0 is this for real i trust your opinion these boxs still work great but getting less and less apps to work i would pay for a honest fix dont wish to toss them out.

I did reboot my nexbox A95X 2 times , and down loaded a app again but the sound is very bad and the movie stopped. and the tv flashes and sound crackles. After I rebooted it, some of the icons got change to different apps and will not let me go to settings and when I do the the tv screen still said invalid format... Any ideals ? thanks
I connected the wrong power brick and now the box is bricked. I tried tooth pick thru the AV input to reset the unit but it didn't work. I want short the nand but I can't find the model box I have.
Yes, if you plug in a brick with more Voltage or reversed Polarity, it will brick the device and no amount a toothpicks will bring it back. Smell it and see if it smells a bit like Ozone... (kind of a sweet electrical smell). It you "let the smoke out" it is not going to work again.
