You dont understand what you just did for my brain right here with the spark. I wish I had half your knowledge of understanding ignition. I understand it but the way you interpret it I understand so much clearer. This was an amazing educational video for me. The things we can do with knowledge is endless. I have always been able to make shit work that doesnt belong together. As a young teen I made things out of other things. Took apart toys to create my own. This kinda sums it up just way more in depth. I really appreciate you sharing this knowledge with us. I will always retain it and some day be able to fix my own crotch rocket golf cart lol. Just love your wiring videos. I LOVE WIRING!!

Motorcycles have their ignition advance curves controlled by circuitry in the igniter unit. Using car ignition units, which are just basic electronic switches, you will get it to run, but it won't have any ignition advance. Also CV carbs don't work properly without a large reservoir of still air. Get a proper motorcycle ignition unit and an airbox and that thing will really fly. At the moment it's probably only making half the power it should.

Pick up a Holley adjustable fuel pressure regulator that’s capable 1 - 5 psi. And add some air filters. Maybe some knock-off K&N filters.
Almost anything as long as it reduces the amount of air going in those carbs. Then either add a few teeth bigger rear sprocket or drop a tooth or two in the front. That thing should come alive and be a little more terrifying.

I hope the guy that sold it watches every single second of your revival.
So very happy you got an actual schematic.
I've commented on restoring electronics on many platforms. Formerly working for a company that had low volume very proprietary equipment and devices. I was the main restore guy. What it amounts to is using very sterile water, goves and mild brushes to remove as much corrosion as possible before rebuilding any actual bad links that might be present. A gallon of distilled water dish gloves and a soft toothbrush would have been the best choice to restore your circuit. Removing debris because that is the main culprit in short circuiting any electric equipment. compressed air to flush out anything lingering and a thorough drying will most often restore almost anything.
Alright, you've invented a single seat side by side. ha ha

Very cool. Brings back memories. Most tricks I learned about getting engines to run were done trying to get crappy old engines running to tear up and down fields. So much fun.

Thanks to GM simplifying their external engine components back in the 1980's through 90's us DIY's have been able to rig up or repair lots of items like lawn and garden tractors. The GM 'one wire' alternator is a great item for making a full 12 volt electrical system on a Craftsman lawn tractor. Actually any lawn or garden tractor of the type with belt drive transaxel. I mounted one upside-down under the gas tank and seat. The tractor was a hydro-drive so the belt is always turning and on hydro-drives you basically never need the clutch to stop, go forward or reverse. You use the motion control lever for that. I had enough room under the hood to install a full size car battery. Installed 55 watt halogen headlights and a couple orange LED marker lights for parking lights up front. Rear I used some common rectangular red marker lights that have the chrome plastic trim. Ironically the original decals which were reflectors that are factory stock on the Craftsman tractors back in the 80's are the same dimensions as the marker lights I installed. The recessed area in the body sheet metal allowed a perfect fit. My friend seen me coming down a dirt road trail one night and he thought it was a Jeep off roading ! I put a set of red markers on my trailer for also. I used the same mounts that the alternator had to mount it to an engine. I found another hydro-drive pulley and mounted it upside down on top of the original with a separate belt from there to the alternator. That gave me the same speed for the alternator as it would have on a car engine which is generally 2 times the crankshaft speed. Never had dead battery issues starting my tractor and have used it to jump other vehicles including my friends semi-truck! Love these videos! I should post some of my dumbshit stuff that actually works, like filling your back wheels with water and adding barbell weights for wheel weights along with snow tire chains ! Might sound stupid but on hard packed roads here in California that have decomposed granite (DG) the chains and weight bite in and give an incredible amount of traction. So much traction that you can actually move dirt around the yard with the dozer blade attachment. That GM module can be used with many small gas engines to fire a coil, including a high performance automobile coil ! Pretty cool 😎 👌

Absolutely awesome, love this build. I really hope you guys add a radiator. The cooling system on these bikes is tiny, like 3 quarts. It needs the volume, and the appropriate amount of pressure to keep from overheating. Not that your worried about longevity, lol.
I'm excited to see the next installment!

This reminds me of the time my neighbor got an old 3 wheel mail cart and a BMW motorcycle engine. We put that thing together and got it to run and it ran like a scalded dog. Now this was over a dirt farm lane and across the fields. We ran that thing for almost 4 seasons before the transmission failed on it.

Those philips screws aren't philips screws they're JIS screws. Slightly different shape and you can round them out with a philips screwdriver. But you can take them out if you're careful with a philips. Also I'd be careful with torch cleaners that you don't open up the jets unintentionally and cause running issues. An airbox is also a thing motorcycles don't like to run without unless you jet them up to run richer even with the likes of cone filters.

This is the stuff I struggle with, electric diagrams!! Iv built many engines at a few machine shops over the years but this stuff is the mind-boggler for me. In this LS1 age it's time to learn and channels like this are what a brotha needs👍 But at the moment I'm building a 1986 honda 250R that sat for 15 years. All I had to do was rebuild the carb and it runs so awesome. Time for tires and brakes and worry about looks later. I wish I had the same, on camera experience you all offer or I'd be on TH-cam. Great build guys!! Mopar guy but where we are at Honda guy till I die!!
