Got Burned...by a GOLF CART?!? (EZ-GO No-Start)

  • Well, this is embarrassing.
This 2004 EZ-GO golf cart quit running after driving into a deep puddle.
Only took a few minutes to determine that the spark was very weak.
Needs a new ignition coil, right? Of course.

Funny story about gas golf carts - they ordered some for the aircrew years ago (ANG Base), but they didn't want them. I got one for my shop and used it to run everywhere that I could, but in the winter they weren't worth a darn if stuff wasn't plowed clean. I dug out an old set of cable chains, cut them down, rebuilt them and installed them on the rear wheels. I went places with that poor little golf cart in the winter that had people shaking their heads at me, but I never got stuck with the cable chains on it. Kind of miss it now that I'm retired - it was a blast (cold, but still fun).

That "stupid little switch" is a standard appliance safety switch (lever geometry varies). I have tons of them salvaged from old stuff, microwaves always have several. If you want to replace it, definitely don't order from the golf cart manufacturer! A new one is about $3 :)

Here in the UK I was told to volt drop supply and earth's , in this case using a metre battery positve to supply terminal , anything over half a voltage ,no good.Or when checking earth , battery earth terminal to component earth , anything over half a volt no good. This has helped me with resistant in wiring Wish I could understand scopes and setup values .. will have to stick with my multi metre .

Smashing, you found the evil part 😀
Ivan you didn't learn your lesson, No waterlogged vehicles lol
I have no love for daft wiring especially if there are more than one wire with the same colour.
That can lead to madness, or worse become british lol.

I think the wiring had to be modified , the foot switch is what should start the engine. my buddy had a harley davidson golf cart, when I seen him push the foot pedal and it started it blew my mind.

I guessed it correct at the beginning when ivan was saying about the getting burned by the golf cart.

Wouldn't the foot switch be the starter ? What shuts the starter off ?
