The 1990s are back in fashion. And to celebrate, Vauxhall has brought a famous name back from the dead. The Frontera has been reborn as a family-sized, big value SUV for a new generation - and in this video, we’re going to show you around.
The old Vauxhall Frontera was a 1990s success. It might not have what you’d call a cult following but for years it was the best-selling SUV in the UK. So it makes sense that the name has been reborn for this, a new electric car which has an emphasis on space and value.
It replaces the Crossland in the company’s line up, sitting in between Mokka and next-generation Grandland which will grow up a bit. You want figures? The Frontera is 4380mm long, making it longer than a Mokka and almost identical to an Astra. But in terms of space, well that boxy shape means it’s huge inside.
What makes it really interesting is the price. Although it’s not been confirmed yet, it’s expected that the Frontera will be around the same price as a Mokka - so the electric version will start at around £27,000. That makes it a lot of car for the money.
The Frontera uses most of the same bits underneath as the Jeep Avenger, which is no bad thing. That means a battery size of 51kWh and a range of around 250 miles, with 100kW rapid charging. But the motor has had a downgrade from 154bhp to 111bhp. That’s not a lot in a car of this size. An MG ZS has 154bhp, for example. It does beat the 93bhp of the cheapest BYD Dolphin, but the £30,000 Dolphin has 201bhp.
Inside there is Vauxhall’s familiar ‘Pure Panel’ cockpit with two 10-inch displays and Multimedia infotainment system. The company is also introducing an ‘Intelli-Seat’ feature in the front seats, with a slot that relieves the pressure on the tailbone like on bicycle saddles. It is said to improve comfort even during long journeys.
There are other innovations too. There’s a cooled wireless charger to prevent your phone getting too hot and larger devices such as tablets can be safely stored in the centre console with a flexible strap to hold them in place.
Join Nicola as she takes a first look around the new Vauxhall Frontera. Are you a fan? Has Vauxhall done a good job? Let us know in the comments below. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Nice quality video.
Love that piano black and all touch-no buttons are on the decline.
OEMs need to keep this up.
For what it is it's quite good looking, and the prices are going in the right direction, maybe not going fast enough?
This looks like a great practical BEV option for sensible money. What I cannot fathom is why an Astra BEV is £38k
This car ticks all the boxes for me. It has the right size and practicality. No huge, expensive and inefficient wheels gets a yes from me. No piano black is a DOUBLE YES! Even better it also has simple buttons to disable annoying lane keeping and alarms. And that does it, I'm buying one if they price it right (or rather an Opel badged one since I live in Mainland Europe).
Btw. 111 bhp is more than enough to get you from A to B. You don't want to drive fast in a boxy EV anyway, that will just be time and money wasted at a charger.
Would buy one if it had a cassette player and wiring for my car phone. Oh and a radio that gets long wave
I approve of putting the key in the ignition switch 👍🏾👍🏾
The rear passenger space/legroom is much better, and makes the car more useable, than the Volvo EX30. Frontera is a bit (147mm) longer overall at 4,380mm versus EX30's 4,233 mm.
Hard to believe this channel only has 129K subscribers! Your videos are far more interesting and entertaining than anything on Fully Charged...
The only problem with EVs is that, being much more powerful than their ICE equivalents, they receive higher insurance bands. As long as this can do 0-60 like a similar ICE model and get up the steepest UK hills when fully loaded then less power could be a good thing. Don’t write it off just yet!
Those comfort front seats are an interesting decision. For someone who has had lower back issues for a few decades like me this could well be a deal maker. There is also a plus side that farts don't get trapped in the seat and cause it to rot. I quite like the car but that power of the motor might be an issue, I guess a test drive is a must as it should be an all cars ideally.
Ah yes, I first watch Electrifying's review then jump straight to the Fully charged show review , and then Autotrader to finish things off. and the cycle repeats🔄
Ha ha!! I pretty much do the same!! 😅. I've the Fully Charged Show review lined up in my Watch Later list. They have the best balance IMO.
Citroën C3 Aircross with a different badge 😅
I hope not it’s not exactly pretty! This Frontera is way over-priced and very bland.
Looks like I am not the only who thinks that looks like a Citroën.
Another rebadged stelantis product. Even the new lancia epsilon is just like the pug 208/ Corsa .
Seats with a fart trough, excellent idea. No fun farting in any other car as the seat soaks up the pong! Now it can be shared with all occupants 😂
Think you need to see a doctor…
Great presentation
I love Nicola too
Even Jack from Fully Charged fits in the back.
6:48 There's something seriously wrong with your posture if your tailbone is touching the base of the seat and needs this gap. The gap might be useful for cooling though and sanitary product comfort(?)
I've understood it's on the 'Smart Car' (not to be confused with the Smart brand) platform shared with the new C3 and C3 Aircross as opposed to the e-CMP platform of the Avenger (and a billion other models), but I understand by sharing bits with the Avenger you probably meant the batteries and such parts?
Looks OK, size seems reasonable, will be interesting to see how it is on the road, the thing is with power in a EV, it's not the same as an ICE, so that lower power might not make a huge differance to everyday driving.
It does make a huge difference. The extra power and torque is noticeable.
Thanks for the video and presentation with a smile
From the front/side, i thought it was the Red and Black Citroën ë-C3. . . . .
But from the rear, you can see it has an extra small "window" behind the rear door panel, and more "overhang" behind the charging port.
And the Citroën ë--C3 . . . . .has the same 113hp motor and 100kWh charging, same steering wheel with identical form and buttons, identical 2--part foldable rear seats.
I guess Stellantis is using the good parts in all brands.
With just over 4 meters, and 320 liter boot size, the Citroën is around 30 cm shorter than this new Frontera. But also really a lot cheaper.
Do you know if this Frontera has a LFP battery or an NMC battery?
er nope, this is the same car as the 2024 Citroen C3 Aircross. I'm looking forward to the Electrifying C3 Aircross review as if that's somehow a Citroen even though this one's somehow a Vauxhall.
it's almost as if vauxhall have realised pricing a car at 36 grand and then actually selling it for 20 isn't the best way of doing things.
Does it have a leather seats option for people with dust mite allergy?
Someone who is 5ft 6 (and a half) telling you how spacious a car is has the same credibility as a supermodel telling you she doesn't eat much. Draft in a 6ft tall mate & show us their seating position.
The average height for a woman in the UK is, apparently, about 5ft 4in. The average height for a man is about 5ft 9in. That means 5ft 6in is about average for a UK person.
Nicola obviously didn't meet Jack this time, she did borrow him for the last review they met on! I should imagine he's in high demand.😄
This channel often does draft in the cameraman if a car is particularly spacious or not. So Nicola’s opinion on space is justified
Don't be nasty.
As this car has passed the 'Jack test' it shows that somebody 5ft 6(and a half) is perfectly capable of working out it is spacious.
They couldn’t have called it the Backtera 😂👍👍
Nice practical family car, I’m underwhelmed by the WLTP range though, 250 miles is a bit low for a family car which will driving up and down motorways and cross channel ferries for family holidays (that’s what our cars were doing every Easter, May half term and Summer when the kids were growing up), even now I still do a 400 mile round trip every month to visit my mother. For me the benchmark C-segment crossover is still the Kia eNiro/Niro EV which combines a range of 280+ miles with massive efficiency; the Frontera has less range than a similar car that is 5 years old! Come on Vauxhall, try harder!
Looks odd in the Vauxhall range - everything else has a centre line on the bonet...
Why? Well what we have here is the Cirtoen e C3 with a warm over... they didnt bother changing the bonet to give it Vauxhall identity, I think that cost saving was one too far.
As for the rubber inserts, I had an Austin Montego that had those, as did the Metro my wife had, good things but nothing to get excided about.
I do like the key and the old school buttons, and thats a clue on what they are doing. They are making an old school car that anyone can just get in and drive. No strange indicators, gear shifting by screen, just familiar stuff that works. Its for old people (over 35) who dong give a sh** about screens and apps when driving!
Love your review, but they should offer a prize to the first reviewer who doesn't mention ' scratchy plastic '. Also ' a value car ' at 27 grand - bonkers !
Does it have a transmission tunnel?
Trying to put most e-bikes onto the roof could cause injury 😂🤣
It’s got a lipstick holder 😮😮😮
Not a GM fan but the dash screens are spot-on. The interior looks very nice and functional. I hope for their sake that the road test is up to scratch.
GM?
It's not GM, are you living under a stone?!
Maybe C is for coast, rather than comfort. Just a thought. Good vid though.
I’ve an mg5 and lots of my friends have had ev’s for a while and they’re all more modern than my mg. But after a year of driving 12k miles mine has had the most efficient year averaging 4.1 miles/ kWh. Lots of cars can do more on a run but an actual year of real world driving most are less than 3.5m/kwh. I think multiply the battery size by 4 and admit you’ll never achieve that range really. No way this does 250miles on a charge
And also well done you on helping China take over the world.
Needed to be more chunky…..although thank you Mr Lamborghini for the squared off arches - Box Flares.
European Car manufacturers learning the new EV’s need to be not over £40k. If it’s sub £30k brilliant. And praise the lord physical buttons, who knew buttons work best…….it’s has a coast mode you sure it’s called comfort 🤔 Think they need to grow a set of balls and not give range figures that don’t add up. If that does 250 real world I’ll be amazed.
Nicola's review is better than Jack's because she didn't say "C-segment".
I couldn't give a Donald Duck about yet another family SUV, but I really appreciate the utilitarian interior with basic plastics and rubber everywhere.
😊
It is C Segment
@@oliverstemp9132 Correct, but Jack keeps saying "B Segment" and "C segment" to the audience as if it's everyday language. It isn't everyday language, it's industry jargon that's meaningless to the general public.
The idea of being able to att over 440lbs of weight onto the top of the roof seems like a great idea.
Remember Henry VIII's ship, the Mary Rose that sank in Portsmouth harbour after it did a sharp turn because it was overloaded at the top end.
The heavy battery under the seats lowers the centre of gravity and sorts out that problem. I’m more concerned about the impact on range, not just because of weight but also aerodynamics, this car does not look aerodynamic to start with, a massive box on the roof or bicycles will make things worse.
I wonder if there are any bike carrier solutions for this model?
(charging £800 for a towbar kit as an extra like Tesla is not a great solution IMHO)
Makes me wonder as Vauxhall/Opel have seemingly prices this so well, then who exactly is going to buy an Astra EV? Surely this makes the Astra hugely overpriced
Let’s hope it isn’t the crap it was last time round 😂😂😂
Did the designer own a Yeti?
Damn...a little bit tighter pls🙏
These videos are basically just ads at this point 😂 you really like the fact you need to put the key in??
It's achieved one thing: It's made the original Frontera look chunky and fun.
It was all positive till we got to battery size, range and chargers speed.
Why...?
A 250 mile WLTP range is pretty 'industry standard' for this class of car and 100kW charging speed will mean a sub-30 minute 10%-80% top up.
So, you do your average 4 hour / 200mile motorway slog, then pull in to the services.
But, instead of doing what drivers have been doing for decades - letting their car sit idle doing nothing in the car park - you simply plug in to one of the 100s of 120kW rapid chargers located up and down the motorway network and by the time you've been to the bathroom, grabbed a coffee and a bite to eat, plus checked up on your calls / texts / Social Media, your car's charged back up and ready for the next 4 hour / 200miles motorway slog.
Simple...
So it can be summed up as alright, not bad, OK, or about as interesting as my new washing machine.
Look, we're all getting a bad deal in Europe compared to the variety of affordable and attractive EVs in china.
Physical keys, 111hp, max 17" wheels - this isn't a Frontera for the modern age - this is still back in 1994! Stelantis have shot themselves in the foot with recent pricing and are now trying to justify lowering prices by stripping out certain things - all of which their similarly (or better) priced competitors still have. It might be a perfectly good dip of the toes into EV waters for those not really knowledgeable about them, but for everyone else who has already owned one - I doubt this will appeal.
Why is it most car reviewers have no pockets or bag to put the key in for keyless start cars?
Looks like a T-cross
£30k and for that you get a bland forgettable design, basic equipment and either a tiny electric motor or a underpowered 3-cylinder petrol engine not to mention a pretty average boot size.
It's a Jeep Avenger in a George by Asda frock. Putting a key in an ignition barrel in 2024 screams "cheap". Is that what Stellantis has in store for Opel & Vauxhall - a value brand?
There was a lot of focus on places to store your phone - how about the glovebox & use carplay or android auto? Does it have either of those things?
so? opel/vauxhall has always been a cheap brand, theres a reason corsa has sold like crack in the uk for years.
It's actually on a different platform than the Avenger, but I suppose they use the same batteries which is why they mention the Avenger that's on the old Mokka/C4/DS3/2008/etc platform.
Ignition barrel for an EV - you’re having a laugh!
@@shroomyescthe CMP platform those cars uses is still the better one, the Smart Car platform is only for cheaper, basic cars.
I don’t get what class this supposed to be competing in? It’s narrow but fairly long and tall but low ground clearance…
My guess is that Its one of those cars that kind of straddles two SUV segments - Large B segment/Small C segment SUV's (see MG ZS, Kia Niro, Nissan Qashqai)
I feel vauxhall really needs a traditional c segment car like a qashqai now that the grandland has moved up a class.
Many in the top 10 best selling cars in the uk are now c segment SUV’s
They’re trying to make it look like a small SUV without it actually being one (and totally failing!).
It’s a Dacia Duster competitor
Hello Citroen C3
Wasn’t the Frontera just a rebadged Isuzu?
c3 Aircross anyone?
Yep, it's the brother of the new generation C3 Aircross. Main difference behind front and rear styling being that the Aircross gets a 7 seat option.
I’d be worried what the e-C3 will be looking at this offering. Stellantis can’t really think they will sell many Frontera’s at close to £30k can they?
It needs to be £20k at base trim level to make any sense. Mind you in the real world they will be massively discounted so maybe the reality is they will go for between £20k and £25k anyway.
Hi Sorry to say nothing like the original spec, We had great fun with the original, slipped into AWD, went anywhere, and felt really safe, No electric tailgate, No charme in the shape, Again Not my liking, Regards welshman 2081
After the Opel version of a Peugeot but with a Vauxhall badge, the Citroën version of an Opel but with a Vauxhall badge. Is it worth having that many brands when they’re all the same car? This one really looks like the C3.
I get why you’d buy an Opel over a Peugeot; I’m not a fan of the Peugeot’s i-Cockpit…
Blabla
Peugeot won’t have a version of this.
Exactly. Stellantis is boring.
Still using the Vauxhall badge doubly so.
It looks like a rebadge Citroen C3 😏
then there are those of us who want a MO KA not a Mucka. ha ha !!!
Vauxhall a car that's fundamentally a brand only sold in the UK, why did they decide to use a left-hand drive example when promoting this new model. You would have thought a motor manufacturer that purports to pay so much attention to small details they could have at least used a right and version.
Just saying
An ignition key is such a turn off, so the Frontera is crossed off my list!
For me it's actually a huge win. I never liked the idea of keyless and having my car stolen by someone with a laptop. Range rovers are uninsurable at the moment because of this problem.
No Chrome you can thank the EUSSR for that 😖😖😖well BoE says £28.4 K - but we won’t argue 🙂

Frontera was always rouged looking so they missed it on the looks
You know that in the morning you're at your tallest and shrink upto an inch by the end of the day? 😅😅😅
Half an inch 😅😅
No, sorry, the gap in those seat cushions only tells me one thing.... the seat designer suffered with hemorrhoids😉
🤣🥴
Given the original was a re-badged Isuzu it’s hardly surprising that this would be another badge engineered blancmange 😆
Another SUV? Naaaay! Cooled wireless charging and no piano black? Yaaaaay!
Potential. Not as much as Nicola though 😊
Hang-on. You don’t like ‘Build Your Dream’ but think ‘Frontera’ is classy.
They gave an opinion, if you don’t like opinions, then why are you watching opinionated reviews?
I can’t believe the focus on buttons. Good voice commands are at least as good. Most screens have things like HVAC always on and in the same place.
You did your best to try and inject some positivity and enthusiasm into your review, and for that I commend you. But, you really didn't have very much to work with, did you?
A 50kWh battery in a car that size would at best get 3 miles per kW, so 150 miles range. For Vauxhall to claim a 250 mile range is an outright lie. My very efficient Tesla model 3 averages around 4.4 miles per kW, so I call bull**** on that one.
This isn't much bigger than the ~4 miles per kWh Mokka-E which is 200kg lighter than a Model 3 60kWh (this Frontera is still 30cm shorter than the Model 3 for example) so I doubt it'll match the Tesla in weight _but_ I do agree 250 miles sounds quite optimistic still unless they've made ridiculous leaps in tech since the upgraded Mokka.
I’d call total BS as I have a Peugeot e208 with the same battery and that gets 180 miles max in summer and 150 in winter. Vauxhall (Stellantis) are in fantasy land with this one, it’s a bland overpriced piece of marketing hoping to catch a few gullible buyers.
If it was £20k and marketed as a budget car with sensible claims like 200 mile range then that would be more palatable but as it stands, they’re noit fooling anyone.
In fairness to Stellantis, from videos I've watched of the Astra EV, which has the same, new 50.8kWh useable battery pack, it's seemingly reasonably easy to get in to the high 4's, even though the Astra has the more powerful 154bhp electric motor.
So, this car being lighter and less powerful could quite well surprise on the efficiency front, maybe...?
Frontera was a big car. This looks a joke if it is a small car. I remember the Frontera after all these years. I saw this 5 minutes ago and have already forgotten what it looks like.
How much are they paying you to call it a VALUE car
That would all be rubbish... give the price, the range, wether it has blended brakes or not then burn sume rubber :)
just a rebadged c3 aircross
What a silly idea to have an ignition key. After 6 years of EV driving I can assure you that no regen and coasting gives much better range
Not sure how £30k is a ‘value car’
Madness right
Unfortunately we're at a point of inflation where even a petrol Corsa starts at about £20k, so for this size of car as electric below £30k is now a value car.
No one will pay £30k for this, Stellantis discounts are massive. £25k max unless you’re an idiot, probably less. Will be £15k in a years time used. On the car itself, it just looks really boring and boxy with nothing to set it apart from other boxy small cars. Bland.
A petrol Nissan Qashqai is £27k, a petrol Skoda Karoq is £29k. For a C-Segment BEV, sub £30k is very good value. What did you have in mind that is equivalent quality but much cheaper?
Give it 6-12 months looks like a secondhand bargain if you can find one 🥴
Is that the one that was that bad an owner was given his car back with the engine in the boot it was rubbish
So Opels are cheap and nasty now..
Man, Stellantis really only make sh*t right now and this doesn't change anything.
Stellantis cost cutting at its finest no? Rebadged, slightly bigger Citroen e-C3 😂. Starting to all look the same. *sigh*
Putting a key in the.... Well it's not ignition is it? I don't understand why Vauxhall is going retro. Who uses a key these days? Stupid idea.
Its' expected the new Frontera will be approximately the same price as the Citroen C3 Aircross which luckily shares the same classic "Vauxhall Design LED headlights". What a load of BS.
It’s so dull and forgettable… Even your great reviewing style can’t save it!
Damn it's slow, what a shame.
30k is not a 'value' vehicle - 15-20 would be
Whilst £30k is indeed a big chunk of cash, compared to similar-sized ICE cross-over models, it's pretty-much the going rate...
For example:
The slightly shorter VW T-Roc with an auto gearbox starts at £31,640
The same-size Hyundai Kona with an auto gearbox starts at £27,850
The much shorter Ford Puma with an auto gearbox starts at £27,450
Oh… sigh… another EV that we'll never see on this side of the pond. Tsk. Welp… better get a portable vacuum for those crumbs. BTW… I miss your glasses, Nicola.
A feeble attempt by Stellantis
another clone from PSA, just a rebadged citroen
Another Stellantis variant pushed out with the same battery, boring looks and ridiculous list price (which are pure fantasy - no one buys them at that price).
The reality is these will be massively discounted and should have been launched at £20k start price with trange topper at £22k as that is the real price they will be sold for.
Sorry really not impressed at all and if I was looking for a £25k to £30k EV, this wouldn’t be on my list even with huge discounts.
The nasty plastic Peugeot (maybe Stellantis) key is only fit for the bin. Families on a budget cannot afford a £30k car whether or not it’s electric
Citron c3 aircross in India . But poor quality and lots of missing features. Super flop .
Not a good louking car, just another citroen....
Looks like I am going to have to move to China to buy a decent, affordable mini EV such as the BYD Seagull, Leapmotor T03. The world is obsessed with ugly SUV`s
The BYD Seagull is coming to the UK soon, luckily.
