I'm sure there is a mode to charge the battery, it just won't give you the best ET for the lap. The second lap is really irrelevant which both Thomas and Mr Smartypants OP know. And you aren't going to make up 8.7 s either.

      @martintokinaga5261 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@cbotten106 So you win a battle and loose a war? That ring is 7+ min track. So you only need 1 sec per min to make up that 8.7 secs. If you look at other 1 min track fig, 1 sec is not a lot. Track drivers don't just go for 1 lap. Without the e-motor boost after the first lap out of every corner and a very slight heavier body, I will not be surprised the to be replaced model can catch up on the 3rd lap.
      Just a slight tyre difference can worth more than 8 secs in a 7+ min track.

      @@EncourageableYes, but that's the entire point of Porsche cars. They're more about driving engagement than pure performance. A BMW M-car or a Tesla Model 3 Performance will give you much better track times and drag strip times for a lower price. Porsche throwing away engagement with the tachometer and transmission make it much less special. If I ever want to spend 911 money on an enthusiast car, I'd much rather get a Lotus at this point.

  • @liang8255
    @liang8255 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    It should stayed more retro and nostalgic, that's the strength, the selling point and value of buying a 911. Once you move into electrification and digitalization it is someone else's game, Porsche will get lost. Afterall, it's a older man's car, they should listen to what older man wants.

    3 decades of 911 ownership from club racing to concourse so I am a core Porsche demographic of customer. Not interested in a hybrid 911 and it’s obvious it is done per government regulations and NOT making the car more performance enhancing. There will be a nightmare of technical problems if one electric engine has any issues. BMW is seeing this with the electric “helper engine” in the ZF transmission. One problem and the entire vehicle is bricked and needs flatbed to the dealership. Obviously the last great modern 911 in style, build quality and performance is the 991.2. Each generation seems to get watered down by outside influences from Porsche that intrudes on design and even build quality. This new one is a serious compromise in 911 DNA but I understand Porsche has to deal with very intrusive Government overreaching standards in air quality. It’s a shame but it is what it is.

    • @wafer2582

      As you mentioned, government regulations will dictate the future. If you want to buy a new car, you won't have a choice. Plus, we are only nine years away from the ICE ban so the next 911 will be full electric, if you have any older 911 as post 2035 the will 3-5x in price

They want to get rid of ICE as soon as they can -while avoiding bankruptcy. I’m looking at alternatives like the AMG GT 63 and a couple of others. Too bad, I’ve been a loyal customer for all my adult life:(

      @@ag8912 it's definitely cheaper to do a screen. The analog dial already had two screens flanking it, one per side, so making just one bigger screen without the analog parts of the dial is cheaper. I don't mind it though, I think the updated interior works very well, actually the whole car is a major win as per usual from Porsche.

    I would LOVE to see another slant nose 911.
    The 911 just gets better and better. 60 years of this is how you tweak a rear engined car to take on EVERYTHING else.. Amazing.

    I don't like what they did with the taillights. It was seamlessly integrated into the body before and now there's edges protruding out from under the lights with the Porsche logo "inside" between them. Why?

    how to not make a facelift : 11% price raise, replace analog rev counter by a digital one, replace the start wheel by a simple button, put more weight and hide it with more hp while putting electic motors everywhere so the car is more complex to repair.
    Time to step off from the 911, the future is really dark, and yes : i know its the same story since water to air cooler

      the price increase is not that high, it includes rear wheel steer and PDCC as standard now, that's a good £5k of options.

      20k raise on the last 2 years for all models, are you serious with this coment ?
      What type of customer are they targeting with the 911 now ?
      Carrera base without any options is 150k euros now.
      Would you put 200k on this gts that is 1600kgs with electric motors everywhere ? on the pdk, on the turbos. Who is going to repair something with this complexity and novelty in 10 years ?
      Sorry, to my eyes this car for this price is not close to be apealing

    • @davidkn
      @davidkn 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      they aren't cameras, they are radar, they need to be exposed and unobstructed. the camera is up in the windscreen in front of the rear view mirror. Guess the nigh vision might be a camera, but again it needs to be unobstructed.

      Most that track will be LIVID. DE events are 20-30 min sessions. The battery will be fully depleted on the 2nd lap. Porsche is cagey what exactly that means. GT2 RS their halo car also turbocharged will get hybrid technology. So that means a track focused GT2 RS will have less performance on 2nd lap. Makes absolutely no sense.

    Impressive that they’ve managed to introduce significant hybridisation with minimal weight penalty, but I kind of wish they’d gone for a more radical approach such as replacing the mechanically linked 4wd system with front electric motors - like in the Lamborghini Revuelto.

    Thank you for a detailed preview.
    I am normally pretty rude about cars this expensive, but in this case I think you actually get value for money even if it is lots of it. Two things which struck me in comparison with other premium cars. The first was just how good a small 10” infotainment screen looks compared with the enormous iPads you get with other brands. The second is how much more is to be done with various forms of hybrid technology as Toyota has long contended. A 0-60 of 3 seconds is about as fast as you could need, and any much quicker is getting academic. I have always thought the 30-70 figure matters much more anyway. A pocket rocket such as a Smart Brabus does 3.7 for the 0-60, so Porsche retains bragging rights. It is just worth pausing to think that you could get approximately 5 Smart Brabus #1s for the same money as the grey GTS previewed here. Five times as good?

    Thanks for the vid. Very optimistic about the GTS’s new tech. Even with this new hybrid tech, Porsche always know what’s needed to make the 911 a great drivers car. Only thing I don’t like on the new GTS is the vertical front slats - the front of the base Carrera looks much better.

    The new Porsche active suspension systems in the new Taycan (and hybrid Panamera) are amazing. As I understand these systems need the high voltage / electrical power to operate. So now that the 911 is going hybrid as well then hopefully this new active suspension system will make its way into the 911 ..... maybe it will be on the 911 Turbo S during this upgrade.
