I was a US Navy physician at the Naval Hospital in San Diego when the first Top Gun came out. Not long after it was out, one of our cardiac surgeons was at the Officers Club at NAS Miramar. He came out to his Corvette after a few and two ladies were sprawled out on the hood. They wanted to know if he was a pilot. He said he was a heart surgeon. They left. True story . Fun Fact: The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.

Best aircraft fighting scene I've ever seen in my life
Fun fact: all almost every time they’re flying other than when they dogfight the flying is real
I think mav was actually listening to this while flying 💀
"Commander, I will fight with that F-14, only if you give me a favor"
"What do you need?"
"A free bird riff sir"
This song is the reason why Mav was able to defeat 2 SU-57s with an f-14... Bro should've died less than a minute into a dogfight...

@@volatilecolon Fuck yeah
A real Top Gun grad who knows their plane as well as Maverick does definitely has a chance.
@@t-topgarage7887 If they were to get the jump on the enemy jet, then let's assume they at least have a slim chance of winning. The gap in technological advancements is too big for just experience and skill to cover. Sure, the F-14 was advanced for its time, but advanced enough to have a dogfight and win said dogfight against a 5th gen? That's what's called a delusion.
Film seems pretty realistic to me... I mean we go from the 80's of flipping off MiG 28's, banging instructors, playing volleyball, buzzing towers, saving the effin day to this one. His jet exploding, losing his job, gaining a new one. Getting thrown outta bars.... Losing new job, gaining it back, exploding jet again, new "old" jet for some nostalgia to almost exploding again. Went from thrive to survive.
I gotta wonder. How did they even film the F-14 sections?
I know a lot of it is CGI
@@mono9702 in the og top gun the usaf and army allowed them to use fighters without using them to engage other fighters, the missiles and bullets i'm pretty sure are cgi, but the planes are not
From what i heard, it's an f-18 that they turned into an f-14 via cgi
well the bullets and missiles are cgi but the planes aren’t and the US military have replicas of the F-14 as an artifact and it’s possible that they asked the military to use one of them and get it working before the filming since it was part of the script and all of this might be a theory we arent all sure yet
@@redacted229 Yes, of course, the weaponry would be cgi but the actually jets themselves would be a partial mix. Like how the studio most definitely would not have an actual Sughoi 57
love how rooster is just shitting himself through this whole thing, yet much like his father, doing his job perfectly
Freebird fits on any continuous action scene
According to this movie, a Su-57's targeting system (it appears they both use IR missiles so radar isn't a factor) is unable to break out a plane from the ground while the 40 year old Tomcat's can.
Fun fact: Guitar solo lasts as long as movie itself...
It's even more funny when you realize Tom Cruise is in the backseat with the weapon systems instead of the flight stick
What?
@@ranimdudeThe shots of them in the cockpits are real, but they’re in the back because actual military pilots are piloting aircraft. They just cut it to make it look like Tom Cruise or Rooster are the ones flying. As they wanted real life film instead of cgi.
It’s part of the reason they’re using F-18s for the movie and this stealth mission instead of F-35s. As the 35 is only a single seater while the 18 is a dual seater.
@@infinite683 oh that makes sense now I guess
Also the actors were controlling the cameras on top of being the actors in the back/"front" seats. It was pretty crazy how far they went to try and make this look real
@@infinite683 And, while I know this is a month old, and it's kinda obvious, but Single seater variants of the F-18 exist now, which while they used double seaters for the shots in the cockpits, plot wise and outside the cockpits, they are using single seaters.
Again, it's just to help sell a lie, but it's amazing how far they go with nice camera angles, edits, and combining both footage of double seaters and single seaters (real or CGI'd up) to make us believe the actors are flying the planes, even when they're not.
I even love the knowledge that they used a real F-14 from a museum for the ground and final carrier scenes, but CGI'd up an F-18 to look like the Tomcat for when they were "in the air" and "in the cockpit". Again, amazing what they did to help sell a lie all for us to believe and enjoy the movie, realistic or not.

The fact that the Free Bird solo sounds like the Ace Combat 2 soundtrack is just a happy coincidence
Would have been infinitely better if you had the guitar solo start as soon as the cannon started firing.
Agreed!
This Ace Combat movie was pretty damn good.
Only thing missing was the tunnel run.
But the final sequence was similar to Ace Combat Zero's last 2 missions so I forgive that.

@@themolasser9110 that’s the speed the Dark Star(I believe it was called), was going.
For reference, the SR-71 blackbird, which has a maximum speed of Mach 3.3, take about 4 minutes to make a full 180° turn at Mach 3.2 and an altitude of 80,000 feet. I would share my source for that, but TH-cam doesn’t allow links. Can’t say for certain if it’s trustworthy or not.

1:18 When did they let a stormtrooper fly a Su-57
Anyone who plays bf4, get in an AJ little bird, play this song, and you’ll get a minimum of 60 kills with that helicopter, straight up dodging rockets and diving under bridges kinda gameplay.
I listened to this while playing WT, the map had a capture point under a bridge, i got the stuka with 3, 500kg bombs, flied under it, throw 2 of them then went away, 4x kill
1:41 hit hard
Even though unrealistic, I admit that I loved this dog fight. Portrayal of two highly skilled pilots, and the move that pilot did to dodge Maverick's missile was absolutely beautiful.
0:52 also known as arguably the most appropriate use of a PG13 movie's single allotted F-bomb I've ever seen
The first kill is believable, as long as the pilot wasn't expecting any attack... which is unlikely since their base was just attacked.
Yes but they were using a plane suposed to be friendly.
People saying that the other plane’s targeting system being confused by the ground is unrealistic, but tbh a Russian plane having avionics that are old/as (un)sophisticated as the F-14’s is probably the most credible part of the whole sequence
0:50 just imagine seeing that in the sky
If this movie came back out in theaters, I would go see it again. It was that good.
