The first 16 seconds are a cinematic Masterpiece. The words "Don't think. Just do." From the son of the friend he felt he (Maverick) let die. The heavy breathing before the grunt of pulling the stick hard to one side. The almost sluggish but powerful turn of the F-14, followed by the sound of the 20mm. Sheering the tails off the enemy. Fantastic movie.
Then they get to the valley scenes and turned the speed down on the cgi plane models to comically slow pace so the audience could see them in more detail. Without those couple shots of each aircraft looking like it's cruising along at at brisk 60-70 mph along with the wildly inaccurate physics of those scenes, this moment would have been great. It's like these studios don't know where they should stop and always take it just a step too far with the cgi implementation. They did an amazing job through 95% of the movie with the effects.
1:58 I love how the short guitar riffs starts when Mav broke his speed and pretty much synced with every cuts and action he did (broke speed, the F14 going behind the SU-57, Mav pushing the stick down), before continued the song picked up again once he's behind the Su-57 syncing with the cut at 2:13
Honestly, I feel this is the best version of this video idea. The way things naturally line up with the beat of the music helps to add a lot to why I enjoy this video. Congratulations, you have my respect as an editor, and I would love to see what you create in the future.
@@MatthewFritsche Yeah, it's a shame that yours didn't get more attention. Considering you went out of the way to make sure the dialog was still audible. With most edits of this nature, people just slap the music over the video and don't focus enough on making sure that the audio is properly leveled. So the dialog usually ends up sounding muffled as a result. But here, it's not only leveled properly but synced up well. I also like the bit at the end with the song sounding like it's coming from the cockpit. That was a nice touch.

fun fact: the F-14 Tomcat Maverick uses isnt actually his. he stole it from a hangar in the enemys base. (bandits) the plane was old so they had to guide the missile to the other enemy behind. they succesfully landed on the carrier, and maverick was the best pilot in topgun.
That second pilot had to have died. Even with the ejection seat boosters, there is no way that chute had time to open at that altitude. Even if it were high enough, he was most definitely too close to that rock face and would have had it collapse if the wind blew him into it at all.
No matter what, this music always fits in any dogfight scene
