But Ace Combat 5 was by far my favorite I still have my OG copy of it and play it from time to time.
the amount of sweat i had when seeing the tunnels brought me back to 5 when i was flying the SU-47 berkut threw the tunnels to be using an f-22 raptor in 7 doing the same stressful thing sometimes going full speed
My first ace combat game was 7, but I assume that 5 has far more tunnel flight. Pretty sure it's a meme at this point. You see a Jet fly into a tunnel, it's ace combat
The fact that these tunnels were fully textured and fitted with all these tiny lights and sub tunnels suggests to me that the developers knew people would see a tiny hole in the ground and think "I'm flying through that"
This puts me in the mood to play through the game again, it's been a while. I remember struggling so hard while trying to navigate those tunnels for the first time.
Ace Combat is like a wild dream. Seeing a supersonic-capable fighter aircraft 400m below sea level exit a tunnel meant for cars and trucks, then immediately do a vertical into a tight tunnel and ascend 12,800m in mere seconds has me wondering if these back-to-back 7am shifts have me sleep-deprived and hallucinating.
theoretically if anyone was in the tunnels they would be dead due to the constant echo of the extraordinarily loud jet engines that would make you deaf instantaneously and the concentrated g-forces that would blow you away if the jet were to pass by
Anyone else feel like the only appropriate thing to yell out while flying a fighter jet through several tunnels and then up a space elevator to be “YO JOE!!!!”?
I like the idea of getting so into the song that Trigger just ignores the drone at the end of the tunnel and flies up through the wind break because he's vibing too hard to stop

For anyone wondering: You are required to make this flight in the last mission, up to and including flying up the sky-elevator stack and out as your escape route. What this scene leaves out is you're actually expected to dog-fight in that tiny ass chamber just before you fly out the Sky-elevator's rise on a timer. By this point in the campaign though? chances are making such fine maneuvers aren't too terribly difficult as you've had plenty of practice. in far more treacherous runs. One of them is a canyon run leading up to this a few missions before which was frankly far more difficult.
Well if you ever play the main campaign of the game it’s required to complete the last mission. Not as hard as it looks. In fact in the actual mission it’s way harder because you have to chase a drone, the doors randomly close, and you have to chase it around that room at the end and take it down. By comparison this is just easy as hell.
This is 1 of the easier tunnel runs in the entire series. The drone mentioned was actually easy. Dunno if it was just my game, but the drone just flew donuts the whole time. Spent most of the 30 second time limit destroying the 4 wall mounted limiters (wtf were they limiting? This was their first and only appearance in the entire game with no seeming connections to anything). Only after that did i realize the drone was actually in the room doing absolutely fk all. It didnt even evade or do anything else. 1 simple lock on and it was splashed. Wtf was the point of that entire subsection of that mission?
I lost a private bet with myself there would be a sequence like this in the new Top Gun movie. However my inner nerd is wondering if the altimeter would work correctly in a tunnel
