      Much as I’m sure he’d excel at such a role (as he does across the sphere of entertainment), I’m not sure that we need to give every funny guy his own talk show - if for no other reason than, it’s the host‘s role to focus the attention on their guests, and in the case of John Mulaney, I would want all the focus to be on him! IMO, you’re not going to find too many guests being funnier than J.M.

    As a Steely Dan fan since their first album dropped in late 1972, and who first saw them in concert in April 1974, this is priceless stuff. My wife and I spent most of the 1970s trying to convince anyone who would listen that Walter Becker and Donald Fagen were the best composing duo since Lennon and McCartney. • @ArtemisScribe
      @ArtemisScribe 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The Independent Spirit Awards is also why The Academy will never let Mulaney and Kroll host. They'd be terrified that the two of them would call people out. I mean John's Woody Allen comments are more than enough to keep the producers of The Oscars up at night. They want their show to be boring and conservative and predictable.

    • @luxusmode111
      @luxusmode111 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ArtemisScribe fair point. Although Kimmel sort of attempted the same thing in his own feeble way. Mulaney and Kroll were simply more straightforward, sharper, smarter, and overall funnier. I agree the academy tries way too hard to be not offensive. Just look at how they handled Hart's case. Plus they care too much about their ratings. Sadly, Mulaney and Kroll might not be able to bring large audience like they are expected to.

    • @ArtemisScribe
      @ArtemisScribe 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@luxusmode111 Yeah, I wonder if Kimmel's original joke had more bite to it and was watered down by the Academy or if it was always that wet. I too click for Mulaney...and I am the last guy still boycotting 'The Tonight Show' after that whole Connan fiasco.

    Jimmy's that one friend who only listens to his friends stories to try to invite himself to any upcoming event they bring up

      Lolllll too true. It’s so sad because I used to love this show back in like 2015 but nowadays Jimmy physically irks me... his only job is to make people comfortable and let them talk and he can’t do either 😂

    As someone who's young(ish), inexplicably loves Steely Dan, and has seen them at the Beacon multiple times where I've never stood up, this story is one of my favorites ever

    Ive always loved Steely Dan. They were popular in the early 70s when I was in my early 20s. Never knew I had anything in common with John Mulaney. Cool.

      I know. It's so painful. It's like he doesn't know how to be authentic, so uncomfortable in his skin. He can't just laugh; it's like he's acting out the idea of finding something hilarious that he's seen in movies or something, all spastic clapping and bouncing in the chair.

    Best vibes ever bringing close friends and family to see a musician they hate and everyone still has fun, these are the vibes that everyone needs in their friend group
