  • This video describes in detail my project where I moved my Foil Drive battery box from on top of the deck at the tail end of the board, to a compartment inside my Kalama Performance E3 custom downwind foil board.

Hey, amazing project. Can I ask what angles do use in the main wing and in the stabilizer? Any shims? It seemed very stable and smooth.

I didn't experiment with shims on the mast baseplate or on the stabilizer. I was satisfied with how my two Axis setups worked without shims. I used a 75cm Axis 19mm aluminum alloy mast. I used two setups. The setup for smaller waves was an Axis standard length fuselage, a PNG 1150 front wing, and a 460 rear wing. For bigger waves, I used an Axis short black fuselage, HPS 880 front wing, and a progressive 375 rear wing.
Last fall I sold my Foil Drives and this modified board and bought a downwind foil board. My ambition was to catch these waves without a Foil Drive. This was a failed enterprise. I spent much time at it with little success. I recently gave up and decided to get another Foil Drive. I made a down payment on a Project Cedrus Integrated Mast/Foil Drive Assist Plus package and should have it in about two months. I'm looking forward to having a Foil Drive again.
I just watched this video. I concluded it was a lot of work to complete the modification, and it resulted in quite a bit of additional work before and after each session. I don't plan to do this same surgery on my downwind board. I plan to keep things simple. I'll probably mount the battery box on the rear deck and just enjoy wave riding with my slightly imperfect downwind foil board and Foil Drive combination. It will be good enough.

Hi Charles, I followed your embedded Foil Drive Project. I am attempting something similar, with a variation of inserting the Battery Box from the Bottom of the board - My biggest challenge is determining how to ensure the optimum water flow into the cavity ( without flooding) Is it possible to have your email so I can discuss my issues Thank you Des
