An old documentary about the first 10 years of Split Enz - its a bit strange, but so were Split Enz back then. Thanks to Mike and Tash for getting this for me
I believe they *did* briefly advertise for new members, but this was during the difficult period around 76/77 following not only Phil Judd's departure but also the rhythm section
I love Split Enz, i used to be in their fan club and they sent me updates thru the mail....i really appreciated it at that time..:D youtube is awsome for capturing these moments too..... love it!
I remember as a kid in year 6 in the 80s I asked my friend at school if he liked girls....he stared at me silently and suddenly replied, no!...I like Split Enz. :) that was 32 years ago I first heard of them. Awesome band.
@Coldacre This footage is from the January 1983 "Enz of an Era" concert the group perfomed in His Majesty's Theatre (NZ). I know this thanks to having read Mike Chunn's book "Stranger Than Fiction" (MUST read for all Enz fans).
OMG! I so WANT this documentary! What is the name of it and is it available for sale on dvd? Btw, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for posting this vid!
d'ya see manzanera yuking it up during rehearsals? chunn was more a leader than others. very much 2 split enz until finns and rayner took over for good. charming visual band. truly missed by me.

What a fluke indeed that they had the talent and tenacity to stick around until it worked out. Pure kiwi gold!

Fantastic insight and I especially loved the glimpse of the old bridge at the end :)
Wow this is some interesting stuff that i never knew about split enz! thank you uploader and youtube.
My only complaint about this is it isn't longer. Thank you for sharing this.
Eddie looks like David Bowie in the beginning of the clip. Nice popped collar there, Tim.

I love this documentary, could someone please let me know what the song is that is playing at the start? It's stunning. Thank you!

Starting at 6:03, watch for "Second Thoughts" producer Phil Manzanera standing behind Tim.

@kev1nski Thank you for that. Kind of a catchy tune.
What is the song they're rehersing at 5:49?
The song at 5.49 is a cover of fellow kiwis the La De Das hit 'On Top Of The World' which is actually a John Mayall original
Does anyone know where this was originally broadcast or what channel?
what years this from?
Yeah, Tim always looks so surly. Never heard of him being a bully, though. Any anecdotes?
thats a bit frigin harsh ay
But why didn't they release "Amy" as a single?
I reckong that would have been a great A-side, perhaps backed by Maybe.
and im 48 by the way
That is the worst hairdo I've ever seen on Tim Finn. Ohhhhmy god!!!
Tim Finn is an arrogant self centred bully....Neil however is a legend.
I think Tim is a lot more complex than that.
