The Olympics will be interesting. The difference between teams like Australia/Spain/Serbia and the US is that overseas players are developed from a young age to play a role in their club's senior team and a lot of them are used to being bench, then gradually getting a role in the team and some becoming stars. Whereas in the US players are mostly developed as individuals so they can get college scholarships/go pro. This US team is made up almost entirely of guys who have pretty much been the first or 2nd option their entire lives. I still think they are the favourites, solely because they will have at least 4 of the best 5 players on the court at all times. But if they lose, it will be because of their style of play and inability to play actual team basketball.

As a Lithuanian, I gotta tell you Americans: it's coming faster than you think. We used to qualify for every major tournament just because we're Lithuania. We just had more culture and basketball history so we beat teams like Germany, Angola and Brazil by default. It's not the case anymore. We failed to qualify for the Olympics for the first time ever for the same exact reasons the US is struggling against Nigeria and Australia. The world caught up and we didn't work as hard anymore.
Obviously, the US has an insane amount of talent and resources. But pride and teamwork are something earned, not given. I still think the US is taking gold but it will not be easy at all. At the end of the day, guys like Giannis and Jokic are representing weaker teams, they don't play together vs the US. But it will be interesting for sure.

All-Star teams that don't play together as a team very long, aren't going to be as good as teams that play together for a long time. Players learn what their teammates are thinking, where they like to get the ball, and just generally how to complement each other on the court.
Interest in NBA has been dropping over the years. It's not as much fun to watch, any more. I stopped watching in the early 2000s, mainly to free up time for other activities. But when I tune in to watch at random, nowadays, it's not the same game. Not as team-oriented as it used to be.

Oh, they had quite the players back then. Yugoslavia produces AMAZING basketball players for a country its size. Take 1987's Yugoslavian national team. Drazen Petrovic, Toni Kukoc, Dino Radja, Stojan Vrancovic, Vlade Divac and Zarko Paspalij. Legendary players one and all. And in 1989, two years later, they added Predrag Danilovic and the amazing Jure Zdovc. Two years later? There's Arijan Komazec. And after the wars there's Tomasevic and Rebraca. What a place.

I'm happy he didn't play his whole career in the NBA. I'm from Lithuania. My father told me stories what it meant for the national pride in an occupied and oppressed small country when Sabonis-led Lithuanian team from a small city beat the best talent all of Russia had to offer and won the Soviet Union National League three times in a row, beating Moscow CSKA in the finals. Lithuanians felt that these were indirect battles for independence and they were very important for people emotionally. Americans got to see enough great talent in the NBA. This is true and it shows you as well how under appreciated is Steph Curry and how he is very under sold in today’s NBA by fans and media. What separates Curry from anyone in this team USA including KD is he is not just an iso guy which he can be but he is the best off the ball player in the nba meaning he doesn’t need to iso or dribble the ball to get his buckets. So it’s tough guarding him because he can beat you on the ball and off the ball in many ways yet people be downplaying he isn’t a legend and disrespect him.

EDIT: sorry it wasn't his dad it was coach k who advised him to hold out to play for America.
to be fair it's the total right call. morally he was only born here cause his dad played pro here for a minute. he grew up in America and was raised as a American so while technically he could have played for us it was morally wrong to try and steal him and it would have cheapened our wins.
