    Wow, this is one of the best and most thorough explanations of our true nature, that I have ever heard. If intellectual understanding could get me to this beloved "big house" I would be there now. But, the way is different. Anyway, let's go! Thank you, dear Rupert, and Greetings to everyone on the path home!

    Very valid point Rupert raises here. The spiritual guide I was profoundly influenced by years ago was Stephen Wolinsky, a devotee of Nisargadatta. However, the guided meditation that influenced me which he produced was pretty exclusively the neti-neti which had a revolutionary impact for me at the time but then was limited for the very reasons Rupert elaborates upon.

    Yes Rupert, we can use words to describe what we are not, but we can’t use words to describe what we are. To know what we are, the only we can do is to abide knowingly in pure consciousness. That is self inquiry

    Great talk on Hindu Advaita Vedanta. But, 1) he talks about Neti-Neti, Sanskrit, for "not this not this" and says that it's first step but not enough to see oneself. On the contrary, it is a very effective approach to see oneself (as many realised masters have said)! It is employed because, you can never see the seer as it is. It's not an object, I, the ultimate-consciousness-bliss (Sat-Chit-Ananda) am always there all the time. I'm there right now. There's nothing that needs to be done to become it, I am that already, only my ego confuses itself with wrong identities. So all that one needs to do is remove those confused identities by Neti-Neti and what is left, the Self (sat-chit-anand) remains and is 'realised'!
    But, like every other approach, what works best for them depends on their Sanskaras (predispositions)!
    And 2) No schools of Advaita Vedanta stop at saying consciousness is apart from the material world. That in Hindu philosophy is the definition of Dvaita (Duality).

    Rupert is here hinting at the view in Tantra that goes like this..
    Neti Neti is the teaching of emptiness - there is no self existence in all things.
    Yet there is the "self" that is the awareness or radiant emptiness of ubiquitous consciousness that is the recognition of the empty nature of the appearances.
    Finally, the appearances themselves are the radiant energy of ubiquitous consciousness.
    All is good 🙏

    Is there a video where he talks about the outgoing nature, he talks mainly about the inward journey. Sometimes I've felt I am the observer and the object... I've only had that once, in relation to energy in the body -- feeling that I was observing and also I was it. How do I find out what Rupert talks about next? In this experience, I had been sitting outside the small house but not in the big house.
    Often it has felt like everthing is outside -- observed -- the "outside, outside" along with thoughts emotions, etc. Sometimes I am vast and the body and experienced are inside. Blah -- difficult to talk about -- the question is -- where does Rupert talk about the outward journey.
    Great talk, great video. Thank you.

      What are objects to you but perceptions, which are but experiences?

    • @andreac5152
      @andreac5152 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuperstarSridhar sure, but I cannot say my perception is absolute and I cannot exclude there could be something more. So this is just one of few options, a legit one, but not the only one. The noumen, the object per se, is unknowable, so it can well be just mind or something else. Surely, in the end of the story, we have only one interconnected reality where objects and subjects are two parts of the same relationship, but this is a different story.

    • @SuperstarSridhar
      @SuperstarSridhar 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@andreac5152 Firstly, thanks for the beautiful line - 'In the end of the story, we have only one interconnected reality where objects and subjects are two parts of the same.'
      Isn't that the goal of all spirituality? To feel the universal oneness and the peace that follows?
      His explanation may not be the accurate one, but it is a plausible one as you yourself agreed.
      I've read somewhere that all paths are but methodologies to get to the goal. (hence they don't need to be all accurate)
      'Just get the message and move on. Don't identify yourself with or obsess over any philosophy', Rupert himself says elsewhere.

    I would like to know, how can you be sure, there is "higher awarness" beyond you as person. How can you be sure, that awarness in not only quiet consciousness = quiet ego, as we naturally sense it and live it as human.

    • @Toertsch
      @Toertsch 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is no higher awareness beyond you, because you're it! What is missing is the knowledge of it inside the personal mind, which is an invention of yourself, the single awareness. This question is the definition of "looking outwards/elsewhere to find yourself" :)
      I don't know what one can do about it. I think a good method is to quiet the mind and its imagination and just stay there.

    • @alfogel3298

      Toertsch :
      The mind must vanish.
      Meher Baba said it best:
      “Mind wants to know that which is beyond mind. To know that
      which is beyond mind, mind must go-vanish, leaving no vestige
      of itself behind. The humour of it is, the mind, which is finite,
      wants to retain itself and yet know Truth, which is infinite. This is
      the position of those who seek Truth through intellect. Few grasp
      this fact, and so most grope and grapple in vain. “

      Connor Lepp No because you need to read the bible and learn the teachings of Christ. There are so many prophecys from the Bible that have came true and are continuing to become true... MANY people have had near death experiences and never even knew what was written in the bible, what they saw in their experiences is what the bible teaches about... It was only AFTER their experience that they actually read the bible and were amazed... Check out Bill Wiese 23 minutes in hell for example.

Through neti neti the small house is demolished...and there is no big house...simply space without boundaries, walls, etc. If there are walls (a house) that too is demolished.

      You know that you are. That is, you know ‘I am.’ This knowledge is not derived through any medium such as a mind or a body, which could be unreliable, but rather it is known directly. It is the undeniable and ever-present knowledge that Consciousness has of its own being. It doesn't know itself as an object, because it's not an object. Yet awareness knows itself.

    • @ernestweber5207
      @ernestweber5207 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And with what and how do you know that? So far, not much at all is known, scientifically, about what consciousness and awareness are and how the "brain" creates them. There are many hypotheses.
      It seems that our own subjective experience of awareness does not indicate to us a "brain" in there doing anything, and so, the evidence is your own experience itself, which is what this kind of teaching focuses on. If Awareness is ultimate and primal, then there is nothing that is actually prior to it other than an absolute. It is the which for which there is no whicher.

    • @edzardpiltz6348

      You are so full of concepts that you don't even see them anymore. All you can ever know, is a projection inside your head (remember biology class?)! Even the idea of a head is just a concept of your projection. So what is all that talk about a brain producing consciousness? Your own experience is the best proof.
      Have you had an experience that awareness did not witness? Awareness has to come prior to any experience or knowledge. Even the knowledge (or thesis) that 'awareness is just a product of the brain'. Can the product precede its source?

The space would be independent of whatever happens in it. Because we have *said* so. But we could imagine another scenario. Consider setting off a nuclear device. That would certainly disturb the "space" for quite a while. And if the fallout lasts long enough (take Chernobyl for instance) . . . then yes the " space" would certainly be altered for some time . . . if not actually "disturbed." Conclusions ??? For one thing the hypothetical space is *not* independent of what happens in it. Just sayin'. Take it or leave it.
    And as far as "consciousness" or "awareness" . . . we are aware till we aren't. I and the bible say death ends human awareness. Of course there is the possibility of "rebirth." Just sayin'.
    Of course i understand Mr. Spira's analogy. He's positing an "internal" or mental space which we can try and make still. That is stop the thought processes from disturbing "pure" awareness. But in my experience this happens only very briefly. But i'm a believer. Strange things happen. *THERE'S MORE IN HEAVEN AND EARTH THAN IS DREAMT OF IN MY PHILOSOPHY.* Last quote by Shakespeare. Thank you Mr. Spira.

    This explanation is an ego trap. You are your thoughts. The moment you say I am awareness, you are lost again in identification. Granted, a much more grandiose identification than with your body or thoughts. Who am I? An illusion. Full stop.

      I am an illusion and that doesn't confuse you and others? Puzzling,

      @@SuperstarSridhar I agree with you. I can't recall the context in which I said it. But yes, to say it as a stand alone statement is not useful and confusing.

      @@sanekabc Just a couple of weeks ago when I started to watch Rupert's clips, I used to get really irritated by his calling questioners 'you awareness' for a similar reason as yourself but the longer I listen to him the more I feel drawn inwards and the less this bothers me, in fact, quite the contrary;).
