MK is effectively just jamming the outro. The basic structure of the original is merely used as a platform on which he builds al-freco patterns and riffs that just nod to the original. That he can do this with a fluency that others try to imitate shows his complete mastery and confidence of the instrument.

In my opinion though both the versions, Nimes and Basel, are a bit short on the fervour. He has slowed down remarkably in these concerts. I enjoy the Alchemy version the most. But then we are talking about 9-10 years ageing. Still, no doubt, it is a wonderful performance and one of my most treasured songs.
@lenartcvirn I think the version of TR in Basel is very beautiful, but I feel the version in Nimes MK mmm... "catches the brass ring" so to speak he goes into the solo and the whole band goes with him and they play it really tight, you can see at the end they are all exceptionally pleased with the outcome. I agree with you that the solo in Basel was more elegant and I had a hard time deciding which one I thought was better but in the end thats what I thought. :)
I've watched the three most popular versions of this, yes, masterpiece on you tube ( did'nt get to be there unfortunatley ) this one in nimes is in my humble opinion by far the absoloute masterpiece!!!!!! of all.it dosn't get any better but, if it does I want to see it!!!!:) Please!!!?
