I was there too... the band pretty much had a residency at the Empty Container Centre, playing 16 consecutive (!) nights in March 1986 and another 4 in April. I remember the music being virtually identical to the studio recording. Hang in there, BlindPete. Cherish the memories.
Mark Knopfler has created the music of my dreams. He's simply the best. When I die, I want his music played at my funeral as my last goodbye. Thank you, Mark, for the enormous joy your music has given me.
He gets recognition from literally everyone I know who has any feeling for good music.. the sad truth is that the garbage that claims to be music these days is nothing but autotune and the same bland melodies 😞 This man is me and my dads hero !
I had the honor and blessings to talk to Jeff Beck, being that he knew a very dear friend of mine that was one of the three that started Tower Records. Jeff said that Mark was an absolute genius on the guitar and a great friend, that anyone would like to have. Personally, I’m not a guitarist, but I would put him in the top ten, just personally, without any particular reason.
I am 41 and just discovered this genius musician. I can be a nostalgic person especially with the passing of my mother in 2021. When the light goes off all we have left are relationships hopefully God first, family and friends. Cherish the good time and enjoy life, it is a blessing after all…Thank you Mark!!!
I understand u , I'm 52 I Know them in 1986 " brothers in arms" 4 me Mark he's lord of guitar I try 2 stay away from him 1 time year it's enough because it's 2 much sensitive , I keep my self away from him with prince bowie and others
When I was a teenager your music made me weep. And now that I’m pushing six decades, the beauty of your music is still making me cry. Thank you for being there with me all this time.
Jimo Hendrix was once asked what's it like to be the greatest guitar player in the world his reply was dont ask me go ask Rory Gallagher. Seen him live in punchestown . Brilliant.
My husband passed away not even a year ago and I remember that we were both listening to your song sitting close to a beach in our motorhome and we both just cried. We always loved your songs and we even played some of them and Scott was learning to sing and go busking with me. His very first ever song at a Karaoke show was Sultans of swing and it took me almost an hour to sign him up to sing it. He was my best friend and husband and listening to this now by myself is ripping my heart out, but it helps me grieving. Thank you Mark ♥️
I lost Wife eight years ago. She used to remark how I brought so much music into her life that she would not have heard otherwise. Knopfler has a way with music that is unique and I'm glad that it brought you some help with your grief. Do the work, Stefanie. Grief work is good work and needs to be done.
David Thompson thank you David! On the 29th it’s one year ago and it’s just so painful to have lost the best man on the planet. I’m not a good guitar player but I just recorded a song for Scott. It’s called “I miss you my friend” and I can only dream and imagine what it would sound like if Mark would play this.
My wife and I are looking at being kicked out of our home and RV living maybe all we can afford. I hope I don't leave her lonely in a motorhome. So sorry for your loss.
Me too, I am not a musician.... but a very sensitive person and the combination of his voice and guitar moves each single cell in my body. In love with his art since early 80'
HOMEY... 71-YEAR-OLD EXTREME SURFER..........soooooo excellent music....I have seen him in person 4 times........extreme excellent musicians.....rich ..almost spiritual music........please come back to so California........sandiego...temecula!!!!!! please.
Tom Thompson MK is on tour this Summer in the USA, I have got a ticket to see him at the Greek Theatre in LA. Check the dates, maybe he is playing close to you as well!
My father played the Dire Straits endlessly for years until now. From 1983 when dad told me Mike Knopfler was simply the best, i am totally glued to his music. Great guitar work
There is only one Telegraph Road. And only one Mark Knopfler. He walks with the finest guitarists on this planet. I was privileged to meet him once in Eindhoven, NL. In a bar in the hotel, I missed the concert. Dire Straits walked in and I almost fell off my seat. I bought them several beers and stayed with them for a little while. It was amazing. He’s one of the finest song writers and a fine man. I had a blast. The next night, I went to the show. Great concert!!
Stunning performance. On Every Street tour 1992, in person, I was overjoyed next to my handicapped young lady friend in a wheelchair in the Tacoma Dome. Before then, and every year since, his mastery of music amazes me. Truly a hero of it all ... the business of inspiration, the brilliant guitar, the soul behind the lyrics.
Joe Jensen high Joe .. do like your attitude and comments hope you and girlfriend are doing fine. She's definitely got good taste in modern/rock/folk music and hearing your comment saying you like him because she does is great but deapdown you will love him as the years go by you, because his music will live forever and unfortunately we don't. I'm in my 70s now and have admired his talent with the guitar found out that he can actually sing from his heart and compose songs and music almost at will, all this from dire straits till now. I've followed him only via records cds and now utube which by the way is magical, and never seen or heard him perform live. I worked in the coalmines, tunnelling, and factory maintenance from 1961 till 2015, and never seemed to have enough spare cash to warrant buying a concert ticket, there was always a bill of some sort that was more important. I grew up in the Newcastle area and had friends that knew him personally and they all spoke well of him as one of the guys. His band of utterly talented musicians are his equal to their own instruments and station within it, everyone of them say he is a perfectionist but never tells the band members how to achieve this perfection, they all do their part in their own mind within the music within the band to achieve the sound we hear. Mark Knopfler is the star and his relentless search for perfection is obvious as it is performed brilliantly through all of the rest of his band. Listen. .listen and enjoy , I just lose myself.

The perfection of a recording is different than the perfection in a live concert. It is rare to have them both. I saw him play in the United Palace in Harlem and it was magical.
Old dude myself lol only 70 but why does it take this long to appreciate absolutely brilliant guitarist like mark listen to him and i just drift off hopefully into another world where we all go to peace luv u all ❤❤
I am a single parent to a 19 month old and every night I play him Knofler till he closes his eyes . My hope is that he'll dream of the purest things in life. Thanks Mark Knofler
What a beautiful thing to do for your son! I hope he develops a love of music as he grows up and that you and he will be able to share the passion for this magnificent artist. Thanks for sharing this. 🖖🏾
I never tire of listening to MK. I played his songs to my three kids when they were growing up and they've started playing it to their kids, so the third generation that will grow to his music, which doesn't date because of his genius. I consider myself lucky to have found him and have spent countless hours enjoying his music. This particular song and version is one of my favourites and I NEVER tire of listening to it. When he gets to the high notes in is riffs - well that sends me to another place. Thank you MK for many hundreds of hours of listening pleasure.
I can sense the smells of my childhood when I listen to Mark Knopfler playing guitar. I will never forget how I bought my first Dire Straits album. I stuffed it into my red rucksack, cycling home with it for about an hour. The cover was dog eared, I never cared. I was twelve, 43 years ago. I still have the album.
Always thought this was one of the greatest pieces of "modern" music ever recorded. Never said anything about it. One day my son, who had been in his bedroom listening to music, he was maybe 14, burst on the scene and said he'd just heard this for the first time and thought it was the best song ever. No influence of mine. Must be genetic. Never forgot that.
You see, this is why I don’t begrudge guys like Knopfler their millions, he’s a fucking genius who has dedicated his entire life to mastering an instrument so perfectly he can make it express every human emotion possible by vibrating six strings. I’ve cried listening to him play, that’s how fucking amazing his sort of talent is. Bravo Mark, you rock man.
guitarists are a dime a dozen. this guy is the complete package, songwriter, composer, stage performer, singer, and 100% real, genuine persona. he can make me FEEL stuff, me, the otherwise zombie. who cares how much money he made?
We need guys like Knopfler, Clapton and Gilmour in today's world of music. They set the bar so so high! They can sing... compose... play the guitar like no tomorrow! Evergreen songs! At 67, look at him go! Go go go!
This guy blows me away! Goosebumps every time. What a legend! This is just magic.I been listening to these for 16 hours straight. Many times I had to remind myself to breathe. When I die I want his solo going thru my head.
The fact that he's able to sound this good live just proves how good of a musician he is. Not only him, but the whole band, the level of complexity is insane!!
SFAPowerhouse Scary how fast time is moving. I remember hearing Sultans of Swing for the first time like it was yesterday. And thinking what a unique sound & style this fresh talented guitarist possessed. We're about the same age and I too still marvel at the mans giftedness.
The mystery is why people watch 15 minutes then bother to be disrespect it with a dislike. If not their cup of tea fine but there is obviously no need to paint a dislike onto the picture. Makes me wonder what mentality is behind it. I don't like several artist but wouldn't bother to watch them in the first place, if one were to trawl yt looking for things to dislike it could become a full time job
Listen to the guitar playing at 11:49 Pierre and you'll have your answer - I didn't vote the clip down, but can understand people's disappointment at 5 secs of truly awful guitar playing. I'll guarantee Mark would be the first to agree.
He missed some notes ^^ so what? it is live ;) speaking about the things he does with his guitar during that song in 13 minutes, one wrong move from a guy who is already god damn fucking old does not really matter ;) I think, it makes him more likable because you see, that he is getting old, is not as fast as he once was and he still plays tour after tour to make his fans happy ;) I mean like... he is still human and humans do make mistakes ^^ Metallica's lead guitarist makes mistakes in nearly every song, doesn't make him less of a great musician ;)
Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits have been one of my life's enduring pleasures. I can only hope that Mark knows the good he has done and what he means to so many people
J'ai 70 ans et je dédicace cette magnifique musique à mon ancienne collègue de travail, Catherine, lorsque nous allions en études à Revin. Bisous Serge
Mark is 72 Years old and has retired.I wish him year's of happy ness and thank him for his music.Millions are going to miss him.God Bless you Mark you are Legend 💖
Was not aware he had retired, always regret not seeing him in his Dire Straits days, seen him once in concert on his own, will be a great loss but has a fantastic catalogue of music to listen to
@@giorgosantimatter good for you. I also didn't have anyone to guide me here. What I'm saying is i was able to find this because of the good taste in music my father instilled in me
I'm 68 and English and been listening to him for many a year and is there any part of the world he has not touched with his incredible playing. Keep listening till you are 68 and keep his legend going
2 absolute monster solo's in one song, it keeps building throughout the song and when I'm listening my way towards the end of the second solo I'm literally super pumped up with pure joyful energy and I can't stop smiling, like the old saying from my country, I'm paraphrasing here because I'll have to translate: "If I didn't have ears, my smile would've encircled my head"- What and absolute master piece, one of many from MK. And keep in mind this song starts close to 90 minutes into the concert after he had done a pretty high energy, for his age, version of Sultans of Swing and a 9 minutes (more or less) version of Speedway at Nazareth. Mark was 66 years old back then God bless him.
One of the most important things about Mark is his genius in writing songs that have meaning to him. My all-time favorite song from all time and all types of music, as an ex-service member, is Brothers in Arms which he wrote witnessing a soldier dying in his friends arms from a wound in the Falklands war. All his songs (I think more than 120) have a personal meaning to him and his playing transmits those feeling to the world - pure GENIUS.
Agreed. It comes from his heart, so it touches ours. I just shared Brothers in Arms on my FB page. It seemed particularly poignant for those souls standing for Ukraine.
I know that there are many other guitarists who are faster and flashier, but Mark has such an emotion and feel behind his playing that can not be beat.
Who's faster? Knopfler is so accomplished as a musician that he can do anything he please with the guitar, but taste, sensibility, and fidelity to what he is expressing with his music dictate wht he does technically. With lesser flashier players it's the other way around.
That is what I've been saying for years. There are two number 1 guitar players, Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour because they play MUSIC, not seeing how many strokes they can get into a second.
in 1978, my brother and me, traveled to portugal in his car. we listened the first album of DS, about the long travel ! the love for this band and guitar hero as born on this moment. I 63 years old and fan since this beautiful moment. thank you Mark for the happyness… 😊❤
When the LP came out, I used to stand in the window of my living room in Northern British Columbia, looking out at the grayest pulp mill town in winter, snow falling--and that intro seemed written for that exact moment.
@@RWTKENDRICK Northern BC, mid winter can be bleak. I experienced 41 winters in Fort McMurray. Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck etc made them tolerable. Cheers
@@fusspot57 great album but still rock structures. Many MK pieces don't seen to fall into regular chorus/verse patterns - just an overall expression...
So nice to see a guitarist who can just stand there and let his skill with a guitar take over the show. No theatrics, no jumping around, no gimmics needed.
Because when music can move you from the inside out, there no need to jump around to make you do the opposite: it just takes an enormous talent to reach that effect
It's as if Mr. Knoplfer looked at his guitar and told her "let's tell these guys a story together" - what a perfect marriage of human voice and guitar. So elegant, yet so powerful. He remains one of my favorite artists, a super-human skills wise that has the most "human" approach to music I've ever seen. Love it.
He was my brother in law for 10 years give or take until he divorced my sister in the late 90’s. He is very private but down to earth. Good person. Cheers and stay safe.
I too have been listening to Mark for as long. But I also need to thank your town for a certain band that were equally inspirational to me in becoming a guitarist. 😉
One of the purest and most beautiful guitar sounds made by this wonderful treasure…Goosebumps and strong emotions from the past come about every time I listen to him ❤
I'm 21 years old and not listening to sh*t as I supposed to listen in my ages...instead, I'm listening to music miracle as Knopfler is...thanks for your music, sir! *respect*
wow 21 and a musical taste that is way beyond peer pressure.. which forces many to listen to crap.. and tell themselves its awesome.. only to miss out on music and musicians such as Mark and others from an era where talent has abounded tip my hat to you
lil secret,,,, get his stuff off youtube, downloaded into comp/flash/ph. come oct. nov..? good source, giifted me that info. mark played for some of us s/forces camp le miserhell afghan, 89'. The song 'bro in arms' was soon adopted by seal/6, and ive since heard most all our branch s/f play it also at funerals. There is no other....thk u . pass him down, and thk god 4u2M.K.
The word legend is often dished out Willy nilly, it should be reserved for true legends like Knopfler. Was privileged to see him perform live in his home town in 1984 rock on Mark
35 years on and still one of the greatest songs ever . Knopfler is and will always be one of the Greatest ever. Chill out music of one of the Greats!!!!!
I've seen him 6 times, starting in 1980 all the way to this 2015 tour. He is the song track of my life since I heard him on the radio in 1978. He is the master!
Fantastic I used to buy my dad a dire straits album for his birthday every year one was released without listening to it. When I heard this tune and the listened to love over gold I was blown away what I thought was dad's music was amazing. It's just flawless
Staying here, after 38 years, still astonished at all this beauty ... again, again and again, the same song that for the first time shocked a 16 y.o. boy, is still shocking a man that just turned 54 ... and the boy still lives in, with his older tears of joy, while listening to what Mark does with his GUITAR ... He stays with us for 9 minutes ... then he flies away to the Heaven of Music for the final part and we lose ourselves in his notes and his solos !!! DEFINITELY THE BEST SONG OF ALL TIMES #GOAT
You said it perfectly.. same for me, exept I'm 3 years younger and, coincidentally, the song hit me 3 years later, in 1985, after buying "alchemy" album..
Ohhh My Lord!!!! ...this is simply BRILLIANT!!!... how can a man pack 500 years of history in sooo touching verses of pure emotion delightful harmony...... ohh everything under a Super Mestro leading a great band..... echoing guitar talking smoothly with the beautiful piano ..muuuch more!!!.... ONLY MY GREAT POET COULD DO IT!!!.THANK YOU MARK..💋💋🎸🎸🎶🎶❤️❤️💥💥
1985 QE2 stadium, Brisbane Queensland, Australia. Nobody controlled the volume, the magic sounds reverberated through your soul . Mark Knopfler is a musical genius. Dire straits are truly one of the great bands of all time. Four kilometres away apparently sounded like the neighbours having a loud party . My hearing retuned to normal the next day. Now all outdoor concerts since have had volume controls applied. Even AC/DC weren’t allowed to play as loud . Thank you Mark Knopfler for the music
It takes incredible talent and skill to make this guitar lead sound and look so effortless. Knopfler's guitar style is absolutely unmistakable... and unforgettable!
That was 13 minutes that went by in a second or an hour, I can't tell...listening to playing like that puts me into a timeless state. Beautiful. I had the fortune to see him perform at the Greek Theater in L.A. some years ago along with Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne and of course when he played Telegraph Road it brought the house down.
Lucky man. I am 16, and I haven't had the pleasure to see him live, especially because I live in the Netherlands and he isn't touring at the moment, but I hope I can see him play live one day, so I can tell my children. What a legend! He is the reason why I began to play guitar.
Yes, Telegraph Road is my favorite from MK, just thrilling, how it goes pressure up from smart acoustic intro up to high energy guitar through raucous voice lyrics. Too good
You know, how many artists/bands have their day in the sun, but Mark Knopfler just stays relevant. His music and lyrics increase in wisdom as the years roll on.
I'd say there are better live versions of the song out there, not that this is bad in any way, but I'll never not enjoy hearing it as it's my favourite DS song. You just can't go wrong with it.
I love watching this man play as much as listening! Just perfect! No wasted motion. Total control of the instrument! Terrific! One of the greatest ever!
Huuhhhh, I'm getting old myself, when I heard Sultans of swing with the long solo by Mark Knopfler for the first time I was around 25 but now at 66 I still like it like I once did... So thank you for that!! He could play so well and so quickly back then because he didn't play with a plectrum but with the fingernails of 3 fingers... that's the secret (besides the top-class skills). That's why it sounds (and is) incredibly fast. and precisely.
I love it! "OLD Guys" showing the youngsters how real talent performs. No need for glam or flash. Just listen and learn... Hopefully inspiring new generations, instead of lamenting lost love.
Mark Knopfler is one of the brilliant musician whose music accompanied me for decades. It seems like good old wine. He is getting better. I love this peace of music.
83 yrs here and still enjoy every note. I started off with Bill Haley. Gerry Lee Lewis etc. Then Elvis etc. They were the originals but This is another step up in music. Nowadays Hmmmm. Head Banging has nothing on it. Keep your music going mate.
The cat has paid his dues 10 times over... a spectacular writer, performer. Like Gilmour in the respect its all about the song and vibe, no cheesy theatrics. Songs this good live forever and newer generations can and do discover them through YT. As a Brit I can say without fear of contradiction we have produced some of the best artists of all time. Mark is right up there with them.
I'm English and we have produced some incredible musicians, but music ain't a national competition. There's incredible music made in every corner of the world, just we in the west rarely hear it.
Telegraph Road brings back many memories for me (I'm 74). Its not just the incredible song and the spell-binding performance by Mark but also my family history. My Grandfather was both Passenger Agent and Telegraph Operator for the Canadian Pacific Railway in the small town of Paris Ontario Canada from the end of WW1 through the great depression, WW2 and the boom years that followed until the telegraph was replaced by Telex machines in the early 50's. As a young boy I would sit and watch him rattle that key sending messages to and from around the country and the world. Morse code was almost his first language and he often told me that it was a great honour to be entrusted with messages of joy, grief, congratulations and simple friendly greetings. The war years were particularly hard because so many telegrams arrived to inform loved ones of the war death of a family member. He would be the first in town to know the news and more often than not he knew the family. Mark captures the spirit of the telegraph perfectly in the lyrics. Thank you Mark!
This is one of my favorite MK songs and this performance is so stellar and I've watched it several times and I love it so much. But watching it now during the pandemic it is so much more precious! Wow! Thank you Mark, my dear. Bless you forever.
I had the pleasure of being one of 3semi truck drivers taking mark around Australia on his shangrala tour …. I sat backstage every concert and closed my eyes just listening to an utter gentleman guitarist he is …

So sorry for your loss💔 may God hold you as you Endure on to the end.
Music is a language of the soul that bridges all creed, culture & time
My wife and I are looking at being kicked out of our home and RV living maybe all we can afford. I hope I don't leave her lonely in a motorhome. So sorry for your loss.
At the age of 67, I take my hour a day to embrace his talents. Thanks for sharing with us.
Am I the only 17 year old that just loves to watch mark knopfler play?
❤❤
Mais non... vous avez du goût et de l'oreille
You have just found music who will please you for the rest of your life❤. Lucky. Norway
Yep, he's the best Clara, and you are too !!!
I'm 57 but when I first hear DS at 15 I was entranced.
I'm an old drummer, now 73, and every time I hear Mark play-- and sing-- I get tears of absolute JOY! Thee consummate guitarist!
we pensioners know a thing or two no joke he is simply the best.
i wonder why drumming (my favourite instrument that i never got to play )does not bring tears to the eye?
Me too, I am not a musician.... but a very sensitive person and the combination of his voice and guitar moves each single cell in my body. In love with his art since early 80'
HOMEY... 71-YEAR-OLD EXTREME SURFER..........soooooo excellent music....I have seen him in person 4 times........extreme excellent musicians.....rich ..almost spiritual music........please come back to so California........sandiego...temecula!!!!!! please.
Tom Thompson
MK is on tour this Summer in the USA, I have got a ticket to see him at the Greek Theatre in LA.
Great story, you never what life will bring... totally turned a negative into a positive. Thanks for sharing :)
I think him and Jimmy Page (the only I think who comes close) lead the others.
There can only ONE MARK KNOPFLER = we are all gifted to watch/hear his talent -Thank you
Not only is Mr Knopfler one of the greatest guitarists to have even lived, but he's also a thoroughly decent and humble man.
rolling stoned has him in the top 100, but i think that list is at least 50% bullshit. Knopfler is easily in the top 10, maybe the top 5 imho.
Top 10 without a doubt
He was my friend...
Hi is my frind (he does not know he is)
Couldn’t agree with you more
Stunning performance.
+Joe Jensen sorry but what does the fact of your friend being handicapped or in a wheelchair have to do with anything--
Had to do with my recall of the performance, seeing how it inspired her added to my own admiration of his skills I guess

I can say without an inch of doubt that the world would be worse off without Mark. Thank you for existing, Mark!❤

I respect that
What a beautiful thing to do for your son! I hope he develops a love of music as he grows up and that you and he will be able to share the passion for this magnificent artist. Thanks for sharing this. 🖖🏾
Add some Eagles and Seger to your nightly playlist and your son will grow up to instinctively know what really good talent sounds like. ;)
My hope is he learns to spell better than you sweetie!
Fantástic, MK Will live in our heart forever, for generations!!!
One of the really good things you could pass on to your children
Dire Straits, there is no other band or artist of which I own the same number of albums.
I'm not that old; I'm only 27! But when he sings, it feels like I'm living in the '60s, '70s.
Nice one!
Wow ! My first was Brothers in Arms.
Waiting to see you guys make it happen for my heart is pure love babe two of us becomes three cord's as ONE united
so true Thanks
I am so fortunate to be alive during this wonderful time to hear this song.
Same feelings.
All the greats are getting up there in age. They will live forever in their music. We should be so honored to have them in our time.
Yeah, I'm 67. I've always felt very grateful that I lived in the best era of music.
their ...
Pushing 65, one very great full Aussie here too.
We were blessed.
Thankyou ❤❤❤❤
My sentiments exactly, although your appraisal of Mark's talent was written far more eloquently than I could have expressed.
guitarists are a dime a dozen. this guy is the complete package, songwriter, composer, stage performer, singer, and 100% real, genuine persona. he can make me FEEL stuff, me, the otherwise zombie. who cares how much money he made?
me too. telegraph road, tunnel of love and romeo and Juliet are genuinely beautiful.
Great remarks John!
John Fisher , I have cried WITH YA many a time and Happy to Do SO AGAIN FOR THE NEXT HOUR , What A HUMBLE Genius the Man is ,
We need guys like Knopfler, Clapton and Gilmour in today's world of music. They set the bar so so high! They can sing... compose... play the guitar like no tomorrow! Evergreen songs! At 67, look at him go! Go go go!
Siddhartha Singh h
They tell a story with their music. I would add Springsteen in with them as well.
Siddhartha Singh I thought of these exact names too..
I've always thought that this piece was Knopfler saying, "I'm going to beat Bruce at his own game."
There are many guys like them in modern music... saying what you said heavily implies that you don’t put in the effort to find good music.
This guy blows me away! Goosebumps every time. What a legend! This is just magic.I been listening to these for 16 hours straight. Many times I had to remind myself to breathe. When I die I want his solo going thru my head.
The same here.
What a great comment!
Simplesmente incrível em todos os aspectos!! UM ANJO QUE CAIU DO CÉU!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The fact that he's able to sound this good live just proves how good of a musician he is. Not only him, but the whole band, the level of complexity is insane!!
He might be a bit older, but Mark Knopfler is still proving that he is the pinnacle of the art of guitar! Keep on rockin', sir!
SFAPowerhouse Scary how fast time is moving. I remember hearing Sultans of Swing for the first time like it was yesterday. And thinking what a unique sound & style this fresh talented guitarist possessed. We're about the same age and I too still marvel at the mans giftedness.

It's not every day you get to see a genius at work. Thanks for the upload.
True but Mark still wins, only 32 out or 499,848 - not bad :-)
Listen to the guitar playing at 11:49 Pierre and you'll have your answer - I didn't vote the clip down, but can understand people's disappointment at 5 secs of truly awful guitar playing. I'll guarantee Mark would be the first to agree.
Sure, just as soon as you remove your delusion coloured glasses......
He missed some notes ^^ so what? it is live ;) speaking about the things he does with his guitar during that song in 13 minutes, one wrong move from a guy who is already god damn fucking old does not really matter ;) I think, it makes him more likable because you see, that he is getting old, is not as fast as he once was and he still plays tour after tour to make his fans happy ;)
I mean like... he is still human and humans do make mistakes ^^ Metallica's lead guitarist makes mistakes in nearly every song, doesn't make him less of a great musician ;)
Bisous

Mark is 72 Years old and has retired.I wish him year's of happy ness and thank him for his music.Millions are going to miss him.God Bless you Mark you are Legend 💖
Was not aware he had retired, always regret not seeing him in his Dire Straits days, seen him once in concert on his own, will be a great loss but has a fantastic catalogue of music to listen to
"Making Movies" and "Love Over Gold" are incredible records, long before the MTV "Money For Nothing" days.
Nooooo😭😭😭 I didn’t know he retired. Damn. I knew the day would come, but I’m not ready for that yet. Now I’m depressed.

Me, too. His music is a pipeline to nirvana, imo.
Mark Knopfler in God Mode: as a songwriter, a singer, and a virtuoso. We who have had him in our time are truly blessed.
I could not agree with you more

His voice is kind of shot, but this is his best song.

I am 75 years old and stil play his songs. Saw him several times in Holland. I love his Music a lot. Thank you Sir.
The way he sings it like he’s telling his kids a bedtime story is what makes this such a good song
I'm 28 years old and I'm Sri lankan. I just wanted to thank my dad for showing me what music is.
Your dad knows for sure!
I am from Bangladesh. And I was lucky I found him.
i discovered this alone.whitout guidance..
Sometimes in life you see something amazing, i could watch mark close up playing guitar all day. Makes perfection look so easy .
Absolute genius 👏 🙌
Yep--his songs are poetry, no doubt! Pair them with his skill on guitar and you've got something special.
I've worked at Marks house and I can tell you he has a library of old western books and ballad songs in his collection. He uses them to write songs?
You said the right things, Mark is not only the best guitarist of all time, he is also and above all a wonderful composer and lyricist. Unique
Ll"e d
I know that there are many other guitarists who are faster and flashier, but Mark has such an emotion and feel behind his playing that can not be beat.
Yup. Its not about how fast someone can play.
Boom. I totally agree
@@dales1513Gilmour and Knopfler are my all-time favourites too.
I'm 16 yo and I listen to majority of rock and metal. I only have to say that this music is one of my favs, a pure Gold, a truthly masterpiece.

Born 62 but with the same feeling
One of the most beautiful atmospheric intros ever written in the history of modern music. The whole piece is a tone poem of perfection.
When the LP came out, I used to stand in the window of my living room in Northern British Columbia, looking out at the grayest pulp mill town in winter, snow falling--and that intro seemed written for that exact moment.
@@RWTKENDRICK You got it! Similar thing when driving through the Mojave desert for the first time and listening to U2's Joshua Tree.
I’ll be sure to keep that in mind should I ever find myself there-definitely on the bucket list!

What a crossroads of cataclysmic power, just think what people could do with all that power power if yo

Love it.

He has magical fingers! If I had to listen to only musician for the rest of my life, it would be anything Mark Knopfler!

To be there LIVE... WOW... You would never forget that!!!!
Speechless, fantastic, awesome etc.. MK is God gifted!!! Thanks a lot for the video!!
I'm a 70 year old drummer in N.C. THIS BRINGS BACK GOOD MEMORIES. Wish I'd played this with someone
You know, how many artists/bands have their day in the sun, but Mark Knopfler just stays relevant. His music and lyrics increase in wisdom as the years roll on.
-ХЕ ГЕЙ! long live Rock'n'Roll 2021 =🎸🎸=

I do not understand how anyone can not like this. Here is a Grand Master of the guitar, switching for the solo and laying it all out 32 years later.
Mark Knopfler is phenomenal.A true craftsman.Few people can craft a song like Mark.I’m thankful to be a fan.
god bless him
I’m glad I have lived during the same time as Mark Knopfler.
Amazing there is such music this side of Heaven!
Yeah me too. I was lucky enough to see Knopfler and Clapton playing together in Montreal in 1988. I’ll never forget it.
This man is a humble treasure. Makes a guitar speak.
No he is not unfortunately....
Everybody will get older, some of us get sick... But a brilliant musician will always get my respect
Mark finished the tour.... A world tour that was hard for him.... Very hard....

One word GENIUS.
Thank you Mr Knopfler for all your music and the joy its given me.
I just discovered Mark Knpfler this month and I’m hooked, I’ve been listening to him everyday.
Yes, he's awesome! I've been listening to him from back in the Dire straits days in the 70s. Enjoy your new found performer!
you have a lot to recover dud
About as good as it gets
Surely you know Dire Straits Gary?
Me too
83 yrs here and still enjoy every note.
As a Yank, I could not agree more.
True.
I'm English and we have produced some incredible musicians, but music ain't a national competition. There's incredible music made in every corner of the world, just we in the west rarely hear it.
Skynard man..
@@billwanke1681 Dude, I love Synard but cannot compare with Knopfler.
Thank Brian was wondering why I had chosen this particular song for our revolution. Look for New Freeland down our way
It's a great honour to hear of your grandfather, thank you for sharing that memory.God bless.
This made me smile mate. Thank you.
This is one of my favorite MK songs and this performance is so stellar and I've watched it several times and I love it so much. But watching it now during the pandemic it is so much more precious! Wow! Thank you Mark, my dear. Bless you forever.
