    I'm not kidding when I say I want to support Panasonic for the mere reason that they sent you the S5ii in that Pony of Hope trailer! That proves that Panasonic is a company that is paying attention to its users, and that they have a sense of humor. Love it.

    This makes me love Panasonic even more. Time to sell my R5/A7S3 for real now, to be ready for the S1H MkII. While I have the GH6 and S1H, I honestly was afraid to stick solely with Lumix. For paid work, they are great but I didn't use them for my personal use due to the amount of setup I have to do to get the most out of them.

    Most of the time, in most situations, I feel like Panasonics have the best “look” and this pretty much confirms it. They definitely do skin tones the best almost all of the time. Using that Color Space Transform was impressive. I guess the real takeaway here is knowing what tool to use for each different job and then learning how to finesse the final product.

I have the Panasonic S1 hoping their will be some updates but I'm sure they are past that. I think the original Panasonic with the 709 did you justice and looks best overall but sometimes Sony gives you a certain shine face wise in a good way that's my opinion.

    This video could not of come out at a more perfect time for me. I’m doing a video involving a big red Milwaukee Pack Out box using an FX30, a G9 and a BGH1 for an overhead. Plus an M6 for the odd hand held shot. Trying to get all those to match… kill me now. You don’t realize how ridiculous Panasonic reds are until you’re filming a big red box. Or watching a guy in a red shirt jump back-and-forth between cameras. You know there’s something to be said about black and white video.

    If you want a simple repeatable way to adjust color in Resolve, try "printer lights" which emulates how film labs adjust color. It provides incremental steps for each color that are easy to repeat and seems to have less interaction between colors.

    Don't have the S52 yet, but the GH6 with the color space transform is easily the best log I have used yet. Just fantastic roll off and overall colors.
    Also I do shoot hair tutorials all the time( wives youtube channel Stylesbysummer), Panny for life. We just did a collab with a youtuber with a Canon camera, the color change was real. I didn't even try to match them because I was given 8 bit on the Canon side and just left it alone for parody.

  • @pipari21

    To me it looks like Canon just makes skin tones yellower and crushes them together (less variation in colors and tones). You can do that for any photo in Capture One skin tone tool (push the tones towards yellow and crank up the uniformity sliders) very easily. It doesn't help for videos but it shows what Canon is doing.

  • @18yearsoldnot
    @18yearsoldnot 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Leica and red/blackmagic colour science is still the best. It has made me realise that colour science and skin tones are also tied in with the quality of the lens i.e. leica lenses go for a more vibrancy type of look where skin tones are completely safe as opposed to just saturated colours and peach skin. Panasonic is trying to copy leica but they unfortunately end up with pig skin tones and crimson reds which also give men pink lips.

  • @RandumbTech
    @RandumbTech ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Good on Panny boy for shipping you the S5ii in the pony of hope trailer. 😂😂. I feel your pain on the color grading. Every time I start tweaking things, it all goes to $hit. Have you tried shooting S-Cinetone and apply small tweaks in post? You do give up some dynamic range, but for talking head videos, you really don’t need 14 stops (unless you decide to REALLY crank up that lantern of life)

    • @Pfagnan
      @Pfagnan ปีที่แล้ว

      @RandumbTech - Yup I shoot nothing but S-Cinetone. It gives me a beautiful baked in texture with great highlights and shadows and looks Cinema-like because the sharpness is understated so it looks more film-like. I highly recommend it! Don’t care about losing a bit of dynamic range as there is a lot regardless. S-Cinetone is Sony’s secret little gem that very few use or even know about! No need to spend hours fixing flat S-log footage and super easy to expose…

    I agree. The Panasonic looked more natural in the final shot. The Canon skin tones look orange, and the Sony skin tones look artificial, not accurate, but like some bad artist's interpretation of what he thinks skin tones look like.
    Red is always an issue, because red light waves are so fast and powerful. but, of course, all this can be easily fixed in post, especially if you're shooting in 10 bit.
    The Canon makes you look jaundiced---like you need a liver transplant.
    What might be better is to see all three of these cameras in the "Natural" profile. That would tell you a lot. Shooting in Log and adding a LUT for 10 bit video basically means you can make it look the way you want to with the color grading tools we now have in our NLEs.
    Essentially, your video proves nothing. But I will tell you for sure, getting the Sony skin tones to make a human look human is absolute torture, and after an hour of tweaking it still won't look right.

      @@rellaxum hmm... people postprocessed black and white analogue film photos back in the day too, idk that current cameras are worse at delivering straight out of camera photos. Isn't it more about expectations, nowadays images are expected to have a filter or editing done to it and sooc seems "raw". Same with hollywood, look at how natural movies from the 60s-80s look compared to the artificial orange/teal "grading" that's become the default.

    First impression on the gamut LUT is that it's OK. Your face looked less green. OTOH the shirt seemed brighter, but more orange. Maybe it's my phone.
    These days I use C Log 3 and don't bother with LUTs at all. Tweak the curves and the LOG wheel panel, bada bing. Done. It helps that I'm a loser photographer who studied color theory in college, shoots RAW, and makes color adjustments all the time.

    To my eye, Sony color with Sony LUT looks best. I am biased though, my first camera was the old Sony SLR and I have tried canon, Nikon, olympus, fuji, but always miss the Sony color 😅

    Does canon have a beauty filter on by default?

    Can't you use flat colour profile of some sort? then adjust color correct, to tweak just the colours that needs it.
