I've heard the dressing room version of this, but I've never heard the stage version of this. I find myself crying like a baby watching this. My late father was a musician who was maybe one or two breaks from really making it. I've heard that his band opened for Zeppelin for a handful of shows in the Southeast (but my Dad was a teller of tall tales.) I think it was 71, Dad saw Santana play in Memorial Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Dad says that Carlos came on stage, and requested one full minute of silence to meditate (he was practicing transcendental meditation at the time.) This was before the band played a note. After he meditated, he said "that guy absolutely started murdering those congas." They opened with a good 20 minute version of Soul Sacrifice that left everybody with open jaws. And it just went from there. I've seen TTB live. Dad passed before they really took off. He knew of Derek, that's for sure. he would've eaten THIS up with a knife and fork.
I remember watching the old Woodstock VHS tapes w my old man (must have been about 8-9) and he pointed out the drummer to me. We're a guitar family but we always loved that young buck on the skins (actually, we like all instrumentalists, if they crush). For a guitarist to play a solo behind a sound like this is a dream! High tempo Latino percusion, w some simple, but mean changes. This is one of the badass guitar tunes ever.

Great performance! I've just uploaded a free transcription in both Open E and standard tuning of the solo Derek plays from the backstage rehearsal before this show.
That's pretty damn hard to play without that piercing pick of Carlos Santana. I would say that Trucks is the best finger-picker out there. I can't think of any better..
@@robertwhitcomb6105 I suppose..Beck has a lot of history. This solo was a bad recording of a Santana pick heavy masterpiece. Listen to this slide finger solo, and this is straight into the amp.. no special effects or even a tremelo bar, on a stock SG. He is the best finger style in the world IMO. th-cam.com/video/MSJofCNrlIk/w-d-xo.html
I’ve said it for years and I’m gonna keep saying it, Derek Trucks is the Greatest Guitarist alive. Period.🤘🏼
An absolutely astonishing performance. Channeling Carlos Santana while remaining Derek Trucks.
I can't think of another band with such an eclectic repertoire.
This song is a expression of the soul, this is magic
I REALLY liked this sound !! Got this old man really moving around, almost lost my ear phones!!

All-time best cover from any band I’ve yet to hear!! And Derek has set the bar extremely high 👀
Not many covers on Soul Sacrifice and this one kicks butt amazing!
Best version since Woodstock

Sounds kind of flat to me, no soul.
Last night in Guilford NH...BLEW THE ROOF OFF!!!!
My favorite band playing one of my alltime favorite songs. Shrieve's drums on this song at Woodstock would require two drummers to have a chance
Bjorn Yesterday or one drummer on acid😂
amen, shrieve's solo among if not best of all time,I think he was 15 at the time

Love this video !! Derek kicked ass on the solo big time !! WTG TTB. I'm sure Carlos is proud !!
TTB Soul Sacrifice-they own it-I’ve seen them four times-they always do this one-🎼🎸
Derek is a legend. My personal favorite. But the whole band is so freakin tight too!!
Downright amazing. Thanks for posting this!
Amazing , so tight , this is the greatest band on earth
Saw Santana 71ish Hammersmith odeon still sticks in my mind ,this is great copy 😎
what a fantastic player he is!
i am a guitarist but shit i would love to be in the percussion section for this song!
The drummers looking at each other like it's a conversation. Sweet Mary's tits... Fucking amazing.
A super job & a great birthday tribute to Carlos.
Phenomenal.

I see Elizabeth moving her axe to the front of the stage. I'd like to see the next number...
I’m back every time I listen get the brandy out 😢
Carlos Trucks
Co to drugi Santana...!!!???
a band in search of a groove.
This band IS the groove
Doesn't swing like Santana's version. Very stiff.
Nice ! ...but Carlos' flair and personality are NOT coming through !
Derek Trucks is 742 times better on guitar than Carlos Santana. There's no way Santana could dream of a solo like that.
too much guitar
Downright amazing. Thanks for posting this!
