Cali- No. He’s not master of the guitar. He’s got his ears together. He’s a musician. He’s singing out loud on it. I’ll bet he could play anything and make melodic music. Maybe not as proficient as on the guitar ( because he’s spent decades on it), but I’ll bet he could. There are guitarists, and then there are musicians. And then there are Grammy award winning musicians. I think he’s spent some times on silent retreats to get his head together. Umm, on second thought, I think you’re right. He is a master of the guitar. 57 yo guitarist here. I listen to everything from Hound Dog to Gary Moore to David Lindley Ear training is more important than any 59 Les Paul guitar and a Marshall
Did you know that the bottle he uses to play slide was once owned by Sky Dog (Duane Allman) himself. It was a gift to Derek from his Uncle Butch Trucks
Having seen Duane Allman play in person and Derek Trucks numerous times, I still say Duane is better. But Derek has many years left to catch up. Rest in peace, Duane, Berry, Gregg, Dickie and Butch.
I’m new to Derek and Susan. I’m simply amazed. What Susan belts out in words Derek belts out on his guitar…. What a pair, what a group of musicians. Every single one of them have a home in their band.
One of his greatest “tricks” is the quick brush across all the not always muted strings that he does between phrases. It mimics a human voice taking a breath. It’s just noise but very well placed noise. You can tell he studies Indian scales where different notes are used whether you are ascending or descending in the scale too. I love that he pretty much sticks to ONE guitar. Probably only switches when it falls apart from being played so much.
I don't disagree with his level of talent, but I would say that he has a totally different style than the legendary Skydog. He obviously studied Duane Allman and can play like him, but he does so many other things that Duane didn't do.
In my life I have been moved to tears by the voice, the violin, the cello and the piano but never by the guitar. Until this moment. I broke down during the guitar solo of Midnight in Harlem.
Compliments to the chef. Definite thumbs up. Great selections and good variety. Being huge ABB fans we've seen Derek since he was about 10-12 when he was already amazing. There's some really great slide players out there but he's #2 on our "Slide Guitar-Top 20" video and #1 is no longer alive so in our view nobody compares today. He's also on "Top 5 Guitar Players 2022" so you might say we like Derek Trucks a whole lot. Billy Strings tops our playlist currently and we've seen him play with every guitar player imaginable except Derek. It finally happened. It should happen more.
I hope you can continue to add to this list. A couple of these I had never heard/seen and are absolutely worthy. Another that I think could be added would be his Lie In Our Graves solo with Dave Matthews from June 2022 in Jacksonville.
My first intro to Derek Trucks was at the 2010 Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival… The solo he did on Midnight in Harlem that afternoon in the 100-degree plus heat to a packed soccer stadium was mindblowingly beautiful! 🤩 Worthy of being at the top of this list! ✌🏼🤘🏽
I've said it before: Derek Trucks is an amazing guitarist and the best slide man since Duane Allman. He is a more than worthy successor. As he has matured, he has only gotten better. He's one of the most talented musicians performing today. richard -- Music is the companion of joy, the medicine of sorrow. - anonymous
@@smoothoperator7023There are many great slide players. If you're looking for some to check out, a few of my favorites are Derek, Blake Mills, Ry Cooder, Jerry Douglas, Greg Liesz, Blind Willie Johnson, Alvino Rey
Love how Tedeschi looks at her husband like how bandmates look at the other like "what are they doin now?" and then followed by "nice, they did it" with the musician stank face.
Cant think of the song but none of these at the Chesapeake blues fest where he breaks the high string but carries on and kills. Oh yes, the clip shows bill Murray on the back of the stage for a few seconds clapping. Maybe 2012ish..
Yes, I do remember him there was another young white player who played with BB King as well back in the 90's he was a bit older than this guy do anyone remember him.
Top guitarists don't have time to sing. Too busy making music. Derek Trucks has got to be one of the top guys around today. Great finger style he alone invented himself obviously. Quietly making it happen. The Allman Brothers had an excellent pedigree. He has to lead because he is a leader on guitar. His strumming licks are also as good as it gets. He was born to play guitar. He takes you on a ride and back and that's how music is meant to be. One band I really wanna see.
I’ve been watching and listening to Derek play since he was 9 years old and although these are good, they aren’t even Close to his Best. And how about Otiel Burbrige’s Bass on Desdenona? Derek is The Greatest Guitarist Alive Today.
It’s kind of a bummer the only way you can really see Derek now is with TTB…I’m just not a huge fan of the arraignment and music- Derek not withstanding lol. When he sat in with Phish I thought I died and went to heaven…my favorite band with my 2 favorite guitarists
Have to say I'm a little confused by that statement. Tedeschi Trucks Band is just a continuation of the music he has played his entire life. A lot of the same songs, same material.
@@michaelkearns8499 by arrangement I mean the musicians/instruments on stage. I’m just not a huge TTB fan, although there are a few songs I do like, especially the jams. I just grew up with ABB Derek and prefer that or when he sits in with Phish

Correct and Brother Duane just Started it all but he had a Hand in it...

Duane Allman was the greatest.
He is starting to get the hang of it

Entire band is just so ridiculously talented.
Indeed..
He has a God given talent that cannot be taught. He was born with a gift to produce sounds no one else can. Only one person, The Sky Dog!
Makes me believe in Reincarnation just for that TONE Alone.
Gutrie govan consegue

An absolute master at teasing the root note resolution as long as humanly possible haha

Absolutely sacred! He is a legend and he is so humble. Played with so many greats!🎸🤟
Probably the best guitarist I’ve ever heard…. And I’m a SRV guy. Slide touches a deeper part of me.

How he appears so oblivious to the euforia he's causing around him is quite astounding
right... hes so calm
Oh he knows. He knows what hits the brain orgasms
AMEN!

Took my breath away entire video
He's phenomenal..indeed.🎉
Phenomenal talent. Beautiful melodies. Derek is the Alpha-Omega of Guitarists.
Truth.. beautiful music.
He and Sonny Landreyh doing Congo Square at the Crossroads Festival i think in 2013 is stellar
Midnight in Harlem gets me everytime
my first time hearing it just now. it's not often that a guitar solo makes me cry - this one fucking destroyed me
@@oldcrappymcweaksauce best version of that song he's ever played hands down. other live version just don't hit like that one.

Yes, that should be on this list for sure.
Bravo! Midnight in Harlem..the right choice for number 1. Stunning. emotionally moving.
Wrong solo though. There are better Midnight in Harlem solos
Derek casually the best slide guitarist on the planet at age 13-14.
And he's been getting better and better ever since then.
He's the second coming of Duane Allman. Honestly could be better than him even.

Ya know, watching Derek’s game through the years it’s just unimaginable how it is he just keeps getting better and better..!!
Ya just gotta know Duane and Dickie are proud to know they started the generation of absolute great slide guitarists
Absolute legend! Midnight in Harlem live solo a fave of mine, though not as intense as these! Great video :)
MIIIKKEE! Thanks for watching! Yeah Midnight in Harlem is one of the best.
Bro is so chill, but his solos are so damn climactic! 😮
Gods love shines through this man’s solos!
Exactly.
Derek is one mean mothertrucker on slide guitar.
Nice one

Thanks for watching! He is unbelievable.
Along with Jimi and Stevie Ray😊

You should see Derek looks at his wife shortly before his solo on Midnight in Harlem, Live in Atlanta. And his solo there! My God!
Desdemona is one of the best things ever recorded.
2011: 02 London, Until You Remember. I saw the same solo live in 2012 and everything stood up, hair , arms, skin, ears
Congratulations on 1,000 subscribers!!!!
Too wonderful indeed.
Midnight in Harlem , e-town version 2011, I believe. Best solo ever.
The last one is fantastic (Midnight in Harlem).
Absolute insanity
Shapes the solos v well.
The last solo #1…. Where can i find that entire performance?
I believe it's posted on youtube as Live at the Orpheum Theatre, in Madison
E-Town
Still my favorite song, but these are all beautiful beautiful sounds..
Someone asked BB King about slide and he said Elmore James, Duane Allman, Derek Trucks

Hard to argue with the #1 selection Midnight in Harlem. His solos with ABB are lengendary that were not on the list.
That 12 year old kid playing the best version of Layla ever...
RIP Kofi❤❤🎉
Tears...😔
Trucks the best of the best, just try and tell me he ain't, wow.
He isn’t he’s a better picker than slide all day long

This guy stole my name. And birthday
Yeah, but can he play My Sharona?
A talent seconed to none
You' all wanna buy a Derek Trucks pick?.......😂....................
With great power comes great responsibility

Channeling Duane Allman for sure.
sheesh
I'd like to hear him without the glass slide, I want to hear his fingers, all 5 of them, tickle that fretboard.
To original poster: when a musician plays, solo or not, the rest of the band’s playing is equally important. I can’t even listen to this.
Affirmed when BB King placed his hand on Derek’s shoulder and said, “That’s the best I’ve ever heard “
It's missing this one th-cam.com/video/AgUl79k5UNk/w-d-xo.html
I just commented this before I scrolled and saw your post. Thank you! Agreed!
I think they really lack a third drummer.
😊 ..i love their percussion.
Allman Brothers have two drummers and a percussionist, in concert it's like a freight train with the guitars soaring above!

A little too much influence from India style lately in my opinion. I prefer the Strait rock'n roll and blues style he played more of earlier.
