I watch a lot of these NPR Tiny Desk concerts and I'm always super impressed with the sound mix and engineering. The Tiny Desk format reveals the humanity of the artist better than any other I can think of. We don't just hear a great set, we see the human behind the music. For instance, Susan's joy in her husband , the connection, Derek's focus and zen-master calm. We end up knowing far more about the human behind the sound than we deserve.
9:10 - 10:40 The end of the tenor sax solo, to the beautiful transition, to Tedeschi's wail at the start of Anyhow is the greatest 90 seconds of live music I've heard in years.
If Bonnie Raitt, The Dave Matthews Band, Etta James, Al Green and The Allman Brothers Band all got together and had a love-child it would sound something like this. Really spectacular. I've always been a Derek Trucks fan but with his wife and her band, it is really next level. After hearing a couple of interviews with Derek and Susan and hearing about what they describe as their love of "American Music" and their influences, this all makes sense. I am going to take it one step further. If I was in a foreign country and somebody asked me to describe America Music...modern American Music....and I wanted to point to one group, one sound, this would be it. America doesn't nee to be "great again". It is great right now. As always, thank you Bob and crew for bringing us truly incredible music in a really remarkable setting. A thousand thank yous and keep up the good work. Bravo!

+Michael Babcock Yeah, she definitely has that "a prison CO would give her a pass" thing about her. She always brings it. Maybe the general populace ought to look at these guys as the new definition of "Professionalism," rather than examples in the business world we've been spoonfed all these years.
@@adamchurvis1 Awesome awesome awesome blues singer!
So much.
not for nothing but i can remember reading about her in guitar mags back in high school in the 90s. blues bands just aren't as popular as they once were. seemed like they were making a comeback for a bit when she, johnny lang, and kws hit the scene but i guess it never really took off. :/
Heard someone say Susan is a National Treasure..I agree..and you can add Derek and the band to that...
Susan brings a 250 lb. construction worker to tears every time. What a voice.🎉
I just cried watching and listening to this, lockdown has tainted me and I haven't explored any new music. This has just blown my mind. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Yes. I have been on a mission to find live music since the shutdowns...it ain't out there. I want to know WHY.
Same. Like seriously I broke down a bit in euphoria of seeing and hearing this OUT OF NOWHERE... had phone in pocket just randomly playing.. and then this hit my ear drums like it was sent straight from heaven.
X2

@@davidlindenbaum9182 I've see them live a few times. It's even better! Hopefully you get to see them

Doing God work!
few yrs back my daughter was 16 listening to crap music I took her to Toronto Jazz fest. to see this amazing band few songs in band was playing a beautiful spiritual song looked over at my daughter tears were just flowing {most of the audience myself included} I said to my daughter has your music ever made you feel like that ,she replied didn't know music could do that to you.Was one of the best days of my life ,met Susan and few band members after show such nice humble people ,thanx for the best band ever !!!! she still listens to crap music, some day she will come back ..that I'm sure....
That is beautiful, nice share
Which song was that?
I met them after a show at the auditorium theater in Rochester NY, (Hi Neighbor Alex), they were so cool and gracious.
I took my twenty year old daughter to see Santana in Charleston. Same deal. She was totally blown away. She stood through the entire three hour show.
I bought tickets to a TTB show in Charlotte this year for my daughters. They sat through the whole show in a steady rain. They loved it.
Alan Vaughan We Really Do Live In A Society
If you ever get the chance to see this amazing band I promise you will have fun. TTB is like no other.
they are in the lineup of Willie Nelson's Outlaw County festival and I get to see them in September 🤩
@@melissadepew12 If this is your first time seeing TTB then your in for a really good night. She is amazing. Need I say anything about Derek. About the time she pick's up the Turquoise Fender you should be at peace with everything. I was fortunate to see her play lead more then usual. It was one of the best concerts ever. An I have seen everybody. You'll have a good time
I just found out they are touring in Japan this October, which is my birthday month. I'm tracking flights to see if I can swing a birthday trip to see them, it would be so amazing. That's basically the closest place that I would be able to see them.
@@TooLittleInfo Libra? I hope you can pull it off. It will be worth it.
@@stevereed8786 yes, Libra. And thank you!
I could listen to "Anyhow" every day for a year, and still not tire of it That voice, that slide guitar, the incredible ensemble fitting it all together. Splendid!
One of the greatest bands today most people have never heard of. They are amazing. Real music played by real musicians, no auto tune, no beat detective, and no canned tracks.
Just caught JJ Grey and Mofro in St. Aug. Same same.
Agree!!!
Yes! And no egos. They all share the glory and make room for each other... so beautiful.
Anyhow (track #3) is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen....a perfect song and perfect performance. And for a band that consistently knocks it out of the park, you can even see it on their faces. This is a special performance.
Super talented band. This lady is special, for the first time I see such a strong woman voice in blues style which is rare to find.
This is gonna make me late for work tomorrow, can't stop watching these guys.
One of the best live acts out there. And their ticket prices are a steal, only $20 last time I saw them
I watch a lot of these NPR Tiny Desk concerts and I'm always super impressed with the sound mix and engineering. I realize they use top notch gear and the artists are great, but you gotta know your shit in order to capture everything that's going on and get the mix right. What ever they're getting paid, it's probably not enough.
Especially with a big band like TTB, great job to them
She reminds me of Bonnie Hunt who I've always had a crush on.
Absolutely correct. Much respect to the TDC engineers
@@ugmodude those great engineers are Josh Rogosin and Kevin Wait. Read "Tiny Tech Tips: Microphones" on NPR and its video "How we record audio at the Tiny Desk."
@@skierpage thanks for the info! I am on.my way to check out your link. Rawk on!
Second song - when the horns come in, it must have blown that tiny room away! Everybody smiles when it happens! Great energy - always brightens my day to hear these people play.
I think they laugh cause the horns were not supposed to play in that section 😂
honestly, having heard dozens of Tiny Desks and even more live shows of TTB, I still come back here and listen to this one. And one thing occurs to me now- this warrants more than 4.5M views- more people need to hear them, now more than ever maybe.
I personally might account for a good half million of those views😬
Everyone needs to hear this, at least once.
Me too! Just saw them in NJ and needed more, so I came back to their Tiny Desk as I do regularly. TTB feeds the soul.
They are a COMPLETE spiritual experience. The nuances are incredible. Their sound harkens back to those from generations past, and transcends music into an entirely new realm.
Like how Susan forgets the words on "Any How" looks at Derrick, he smiles ever so slightly. She finishes the rest and giggles lol! Everyone messes up. It's how you recover that matters. Most people probably didn't even catch it.
This is the best tiny desk. Easily. What a band
This is an extremely talented group. We can't thank all of you enough.
This band rekindles my faith in the soul of humanity.
"the soul of humanity", wtf is that?
Sean McAleavy. amen brother
Amen and rock on!
Its a secret club and you are not invited.
the beaity of the human spirit AL.
There is so much good in this I do not know where to start so I will simply say; It's a pleaser to watch Pro's who are masters of their craft perform music that needs no label as it crosses so many genres .
Thank you NPR for sharing.

New to her voice!!!! Oh my goodness!!!!! Gem from a more sultry Era!❤
Soo much soul in this girls voice.👍
"woman's."
@@rebeccawhite2582 "goddess'"
Genius musicianship notwithstanding, the togetherness of this band reminds me of Sly and the Family Stone....best music I've heard in decades!
Great comparison! Que sera sera.
Book store, Albert Hall... wherethefuckever... everything about this group is pretty much without par these days. Love this group. Just love 'em.
Susan's voice and Derek's guitar are a match made in heaven I swear 😩
Her voice is what I needed to hear today..of all days 👍 sing to me please.
Stacey J 🎹🎤🥁🎺🎸✌🏻😀
Seriously.
Every day!
Anyday TTB is hittin' the notes🍄🍑❤️🎷🎸🎹🎺🎷
Even more than the musicianship (which is awe-inspiring), they are just so joyful! Their happiness is infectious, it makes me so happy. My new favorite band.
Absolutely insane, even Derek squeezed a little smile in it:))
That last solo from Derek just gets better for every time I hear it. Holy smokes!
I come back to this TDC often. Their performance just allows me to sail away for a little while.
Best tiny desk ever!!!!! I keep coming back to this
They're definitely the best band I've ever seen live. Truly the greatest.
There are no words to express how much I love this band and appreciate the music they are making. I wish my father was still around. He would have loved this.
Britt Harmon he's hearing it.
How. I think Britt meant that he is dead.
I think that's what Arthur meant, too.
Britt Harmon my Dad is directly responsible for my love of this band. He passed in Nov. Wish we could've had a drink and cranked this up. He would love these guys.
Britt Harmon mine too. My Dad would of loved this. Rite up ole Panama Pat Wilsons alley. Love it.
Can't get enough of them. Seen them 3 times live '22, '23, '24. They just keep getting better. Been a fan since 2013. They are INCREDIBLE.
Rest easy, Kofi. You are missed.
The story feels exactly like a dream...
RIP
Amen. And amen.
Just found you tonight after scrolling on TH-cam and I'm hooked. You got a 50 something Englishman frantically searching all your music. Why have i never heard or seen you before, feels like ive missed the boat for years. Love the likes of Joanne Shaw Taylor and Samantha Fish so im in heaven yet again. Thank you for all you do
You have totally missed the boat for eons!
@j.m.p8051 I know 😂 catching up now though 💪
Susan Tedeschi is just amazing so good for my soul thanks
The transition from Don’t Know What It Means to Anyhow was IMMACULATE. So smooth.
Wow. They are all awesome. But the voices. Oh, the voices.
Stephen Morris
The Tiny Desk format reveals the humanity of the artist better than any other I can think of. We don't just hear a great set, we see the human behind the music. For instance, Susan's joy in her husband , the connection, Derek's focus and zen-master calm. We end up knowing far more about the human behind the sound than we deserve.
She reminds me of young Bonnie Raitt ..excellent attention to detail here ..the slide is right on ..love this ..!
Happy birthday for Saturday Susan. 2 months younger than me. Have a great day with Derek and your family and friends
9:10 - 10:40 The end of the tenor sax solo, to the beautiful transition, to Tedeschi's wail at the start of Anyhow is the greatest 90 seconds of live music I've heard in years.
The transition at 10 minutes is incredibly beautiful.
You can see she spends a good 5 seconds digging deep to get that wail
Was looking through the comments specifically to see if anyone else had their mind blown by that transition. Amazing
Of all the NPR tiny desks, this is the one of the ones I find myself coming back to again and again
Me too.
Always..

This, Adele and Red Baraat are three I keep coming back to.
Bravo!
Ian Arcuri and if that love-child had an affair with Little Feat.
I was going to say the same thing. Beat me to it!
Amen, brother.
It's just good that she doesn't sound like Dave Matthews....
Right on,bro!
This makes me feel happy and thankful.
