You know very well that people were not using the sorry emote politely. Personally I think the emote system should either be removed or you should have a default setting that auto-squelches your opponent because personally I am tired of having to do it before every match.

But I cannot see how you can use WOW! in any way that isn't mocking somebody. You can argue that sorry was good or bad, but the replacement is just plainly more terrible. Also, yes. Auto-squelch should be an option.
Then you are one of the lucky people who has had a decent experience with the community :) There is probably a large portion of the community just as nice, but I unfortunately have met enough individuals not as polite. Also I think there is no legal basis against people _developing_ a fan game but a legal basis against people _distributing_ a fan game. You can make fan games all you want as long as you keep them to yourself. AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) was taken down as well just after it released a couple weeks ago.

Im sure they had this as plan B from the beginning. Plan A obviously being release with no issues. Nobody is dumb enough to release a Pokemon game and expect it to be allowed.
I believe the developers have even stated that they would continue to support the online capabilities of the game and release updates. They know exactly what's going on, and Nintendo probably knows nothing can be done to stop the game since it's basically finished and on the download market.

I work at Volkswagen and here's some insight over the whole "Please, no Pokemon Go" deal. Over the last few weeks, some (read: a lot) people have been hunting Pokemon all over the factory here. We have a LOT of Cars, Forklifts and other moving things going around here everywhere 24/7. Some people actually have been neglecting work in order to hunt for Pokemon.. not to mention that it would suck pretty badly to get run over by a 6 ton forklift. Of course there's also security concerns. but it's mostly for safety reasons, and I believe that Pokemon simply doesn't belong to the workplace.
Speaking on the company security issues with Pokemon Go, a cousin of mine works tech at a hospital, and they had enough incidents of players walking into restricted or private areas to play that they had the Pokestops removed from their buildings. A shame, but the players were kinda the problems - entering the building when the stops could be used from outside, not respecting signage.
Also, there was a case where a guy on reddit was gonna enter a main server to find locations of pokemon through the main IP of Belgium. and Niantic banned that IP without knowing it was "THAT" IP.
they did it so people who are assholes who shit talk people starting it off with ggez would get a little of their own medicine. but in all honesty I think it would be better to censor people who have been reported for such behavior like on xbox one if you're reported for bad behavior you can't start a party chat, send messages and your mic is muted all for an alloted time

Well, Industrial Espionage - accidentally or not - isn't just a minor felony. It already costs tens of billions of dollars / euros / pounds per year. Photographing & cellphones are already illegal in most producing companies, so i think it's a common sense step to ban apps like Pokémon Go.
for overwatch the perfect solution would be to have a filter for banned words (including gg ez), and an opportunity to configure it in options menu (or to turn it off completely in case you are not offended by such simple shit).
Absolutely enormous positive PR opportunity missed by Nintendo. Issue a statement that boils down to "You put loads of work into it and we respect that. You can't charge for it; but please, put it back up for people to enjoy." That would be an enormous positive PR move in the lead up to a pair of new Pokemon games.
I wouldn't blame them for worrying that when they release their new pokemon game people would rather play this other new one that they don't have to pay for, or buy two of.

In my opinion, that is also a victory for Blizzard. They've essentially transformed negative commenting into a joke in itself. I honestly don't see how car companies can MAKE their employees not have something on their own PRIVATE property. Especially when you can turn off AR...... therefore eliminating the accidental photos.
I am not on valve's side. That makes no sense whatsoever. Imagine a football game... Where the coach couldn't coach the team on plays mid game. Or when he couldn't call a timeout to talk with the team to discuss something he's noticed during the game.

The Chrome thing, are Chrome apps and Chrome extensions are different? I mean, they're closing the store and you get your extensions from the store. Does that mean they'll be gone too? And will I still be able to use extensions after the store shuts down or are these completely different things and I have nothing to worry about.

AR doesn't even work on my phone for Pokemon Go and I don't know anyone yet whose phone it works (I guess you have to have quite expensive new one) so I don't get why taking pictures with Pokemon Go is automatically problem- lot of folks can't even take them with the game.

Also, I agree, I skipped out on OW due to toxic players. I've played TF2 for years and on independent serves Toxic behavior is barely seen and most often gets booted or muted.
I wouldn't recommend not playing over that. Like I don't really see it that often. And it really is a great game.

Well, Industrial Espionage - accidentally or not - isn't just a minor felony. It already costs tens of billions of dollars / euros / pounds per year. Photographing & cellphones are already illegal in most producing companies, so i think it's a common sense step to ban apps like Pokémon Go.

for overwatch the perfect solution would be to have a filter for banned words (including gg ez), and an opportunity to configure it in options menu (or to turn it off completely in case you are not offended by such simple shit).

Absolutely enormous positive PR opportunity missed by Nintendo.
Issue a statement that boils down to "You put loads of work into it and we respect that. You can't charge for it; but please, put it back up for people to enjoy."
That would be an enormous positive PR move in the lead up to a pair of new Pokemon games.
I wouldn't blame them for worrying that when they release their new pokemon game people would rather play this other new one that they don't have to pay for, or buy two of.

which is glorious too when you think about it because it means that it's stripped all the original meaning of gg ez away since you no longer know if people are using it to shit talk or to be amused by the generated comments. So even if someone typed it trying to be a douche nobody would even think that was their intention if things have evolved to this point. It's kind of a genius move really.
In my opinion, that is also a victory for Blizzard. They've essentially transformed negative commenting into a joke in itself.
This method reduces the number of ways for toxic players to spread their toxicity, either by turning their short quips into a joke, or forcing them to put so much more effort into being hateful that they inadvertently turn themselves into a joke.
