@@ty_ie I had considered covering their overall turnaround through 2022... But, at that point, they were ostensibly an entirely different team. When approaching this video, I had to choose between telling a story about the people, or telling a story about the team... While the story about the team is also really cool and ends with a much bigger high, I thought it would lose some of the human element I wanted to capture, so I left it with their stage 3 victory.
It’s so funny to look back on history. Seems so odd now to see an entire crowd extatic to see the Shanghai Dragons win a match, given how that franchise dominated OWL for half of its seasons.
Perhaps it's just the universe balancing things out and paying back all the shanghai diehards that kept their hope alive through that first season. Regardless, it's definitely funny seeing how their franchise turned out in the long run lol
Not me crying over a single win in a game I've never played. I've seen a few videos about this streak, but never with this emotional delivery. Fantastic work.
I always prefer to get under the surface to see what the story behind the story is. At the end of the day, any story worth telling is about people, and after finding out what they went through (as a team, and as individuals), I knew I had to bring my personal take on this journey to a wider audience.
There's nothing more human than feeling sadness when you see others struggling, and feeling joy when you see them overcome. It's my hope that there are many who can relate to the ups and downs of this team, and I'm willing to bet there are many who react the same way.
@@XDeej Real, been a hard year for me personally, and me randomly clicking on this vid and hearing this story def made me emotional yet hopeful, Thank you 🙏🏾
I still remember that stage 3 win by the Dragons. They refused to play the GOATS meta and instead played 3 DPS 1 Ball comp. Then proceeded to stomp the top3 teams (NYXL, Vancouver, and SfShock) back to back.
Absolutely SICK approach. They always kinda did their own thing, whether it worked or not... I'm just glad it helped shift the meta away from being hard-stuck in goats forever.
Shanghai had a goats comp they would run in mirrors occasionally based on the map, but Shanghai were using their own modified comp to counter goats well before role lock. Role lock officially killed it then and there, but a big key to the dragon's success up to that point was their inventive 3-1-2 counter comp that no one else was really running at the time.
@@XDeej Yes, but this didn't kill goats. One of the reasons this comp worked so well was that it was a new comp with no film on it and no had any experience against it, while Shanghai had a lot of experience playing against goats with this comp. If you look at the finals they almost got reverse swept by the shock. If goats had lasted another stage a goats modification to counter the Shanghai comp would problably be invented

I never cared much about Overwatch League, but I was this close to tears after seeing them win. The delivery and emotion on this video is impeccable, and to think a video about esports would make me this close to crying.
Rejoicing when you see others overcoming struggle is the most natural and human thing in the world. I can only hope to to do my best in replicating that feeling in others areas that you weren't expecting.
Excellent job on the video man! Really enjoyed this and gave me some nostalgia. I was a fan of OWL season one but dropped off after that. Glad to know those dragons caught a dub!

Gamsu is not the best. He is good. Very good even. But, it's easy to argue that there were at least 4 or 5 main tanks that were statistically better than he was on paper at the time. What they DID do... Is pick up a player that fit the approach they were going for, and filled in as the missing piece of the puzzle. Just like every other team, in any other sport, for as long as the practice has existed. @XDeej that's fair to say but has a team had a worse single moment than subbing out your only good player in your only winnable game in the whole season and losing😭
So in other words... they just bought the best player to carry them...
So, it's not 'in other words'... it's just *your words*... and your words just happen to be cynical, wrong, or both.
You realize that recruiting good talent is part of literally every sport even esports right... you absolute buffoon.
Competitive OW has always been stupid.
Imagine taking the time out of your day to publicly comment something like this... Couldn't be me. I'd die of embarrassment.
@ Imagine taking time out your day to be triggered by a trivial comment then reply to it, reinforcing negativity on your own channel. I watched the video, remembered how stupid competitive OW is then shared my thought in the comment section, a forum for thoughts and ideas to be shared. I targeted nobody, shame you can’t say the same. I still enjoyed and liked your video, learn to control your emotions.
@@Poogs Couldn't be me.
@@XDeej I enjoyed your video, no bad blood bro 😂
Thank you 🥺🥹 they give me inspiration to not to give up my dreams 😭
They also went on to completely dominate the league for 3 years after... So, no matter how low you go, the top of the top is never that far away.

I'm so glad you 'enjoyed' it. Just eat your sandwich BEFORE you watch my stuff from now on. Problem solved. 😉
