Call me a traditionalist but I don't like the sound of going open world into linear. It sounds backwards, and it feels backwards. The game should start out linear, then branch out into open world. It lets the player easily pick up the game while it's linear, then you open the world up as the player learns more, and finally let it be open completely for the player to unlock things and do bonus objectives. Doing it backwards sounds terrible. They could surprise me, but given Squeenix's past 10 years, I doubt it.
I like the idea because it might make for a better end sequence to the game. Like open world-ness is good, but linear gameplay does allow for more control and better development of areas, allowing the devs to create higher quality content. Think it like No Man's Sky and a Platinum game, while No Man's Sky is extremely open, quality...drops significantly because of it, on the other hand we have Platinum games which are usually pretty linear and relatively short, but of really high quality from beginning to end. So having a nice open world from most of the game but having that high quality linear end sequence might just be better than it sounds, and just because it's "linear" does not mean it's a bad thing by any means.
Dodger kind of assumed everyone knows what Miitomo is. I just looked it up. Guess it's some sort of social app that makes simplistic avatars of yourself.
I don't like two-factor verification with phone numbers because I don't like giving it out, I just don't want my number linked with everything I do online...
A good solution could be to buy a crappy prepaid smarthphone to use as your "security" phone. Dont tell anybody your number and just use that for all your authenticators and 2-factors. In some places people can steal your account if they know enough information, for example your phone numbee
+Johnny Ambush yeah that's what I might do since I'm thinking of getting a new phone soon... It just feels less secure when all my accounts get tied together and linked to my phone number as well as an email address but an abandoned one could be good
No most people hate it. But people being concerned about not having their account stolen (and personal information or bank credential stolen) see it as a necessary evil.and think it is probably for the best to use it when available And yeah that it would be better if more companies having ties to your identity (financial or personal) would offer that to ensure better that your information stays "safe"
the only reason I don't do it is because I don't find using an email as secure as using my phone for two step verification. The problem is that there isn't any signal up here for my phone either. I do get wifi calling in some areas of the house though and I'm moving in under a month so I may start to start using them
Two-factor verification is not cool. It compels you to give the companies information about your other accounts. Plus, what if I don't have the account required to receive the verification or I'm unable to get it for some reason? I was in Switzerland last month, and everywhere in order to get wifi I needed to give them my cellphone number to receive a text message. Guess what, I didn't have an European chip, so I simply couldn't get the message. Thing is that for a lot of people this kind of thing can be very complicated.
jordan78341 I agree that if it is an alternative, then it would be ok. But imposing it is awful. Why should I give my cellphone to Sony? Specially after their to major account hacks?
I'm so happy our community made it in the Gaming Newz! The good people in the Destiny community are amazing and it's super wonderful to be able to come together for good causes!
Knowing the narrative structure of Final Fantasy, I'd expected it to narrow down to linear at some point. However, the PROPORTION of open-world vs linear was the part that tilted me a bit. Was hoping for 80% open, 20% linear or 75%-25%. I understand that approaching that end HAD to happen at some point, but I do want to maximize the exploration and roaming combat that drew me in from the beginning. Something that will soften the blow is if the combat areas, though linear, are still expansive enough to have some particularly spectacular battles.
Dodger, just gonna throw this out here: look up the program Input Mapper - a single download that instantly fixes your dual-shock problems. I've only ever used a dual-shock on PC, because I haven't owned an xbox in 10 years.
I think what they meant is that when you get towards the end you get a point of no return dialogue. This is not uncommon and is probably just people misinterpreting it. They probably meant to say that the game has two styles of playing in it, and they worded it as the game being split between the two. This is probably done to keep the action going at the final stage, cause it would be weird to just stroll through town as you do in the witcher 3 after initiating some major development. It probably enters a part at the end where you maybe enter a city and can't leave after entering. This is done in other games too, when you enter the final dungeon this usually happens.
Pokemon Shuffle hasn't disappointed me yet. It's challenging and sometimes it feels you have use boosts to complete stages, but there is always a variety of stages to play and try.
You don't have to mess with anything to get a Dualshock to work. Install Inputmapper, plug the Dualshock in and done. Mad Max even shows Playstation buttons ingame. And via Bluetooth you can use it wirelessly.
Open world going linear reminds me of Xenoblade Chronicles, where the world is super open but changes irreversibly as the story progresses, blocking you off from some locations at certain times and still having you go follow a clear story progression, though it does also include all that extra content so it's probably still significantly more open-world than they're talking about.
The thing with the XBox vs dualshock controller: To get an XBox controller working, you can't just use the standard XBox controller that came with the console. You have to go buy a new one that isn't wireless and plug THAT in. So that's another $35-40 right there. Compare to the $25 dongle for the dualshock, which is (presumably) compatible with the controller that came with your PS4.
I think it makes sense for FF-XV to become linear at certain story beats, I mean I am guessing it will open back into open world again in the post-game or it will do that thing that games do and place you back at the turning point.
Yeah openness isn't always better. Dragon age origins was interesting to explore and areas were focused. Inquisition was big with a lot of empty space.
if you prefer non- x-input controllers you can use "360ce" (360 controller emulator) to automaticaly let it suggest emulation settings for your controller to fit the control scheme of an xbox 360 controller. 360ce then creates a modified xinput.dll that, if placed in the games folder (sometimes system folder as well on win10) allows you to use your controller. Obviously this only works with games that use xinput.
Skype does have 2FA, if you use your Microsoft account to log in instead of the legacy Skype account it will use whatever you have setup for your Microsoft account. Goto account.microsoft.com/privacy?lang=en-us click "More security settings". And there you will see Two-step verification.
Dual Shock just works out of the box on Linux. I haven't tested it with bluetooth because the motherboard on my linux PC doesn't have bluetooth, but via a stupidly long USB cable it's fine. Streaming from my Windows PC, couch co-op with one person on Xbox 360 and the other on Dualshock works perfectly.
Such an Amazing channel. Dodger you are the Bestest!!! Please bring back Hustle Cat btw, im curious as to the other endings, and so far not really into backstage pass.
PS4 controller? Install DS4Windows Connect controller via usb or bluetooth Done. Works with any game that can use an xbox controller. Doesn't cost anything extra. Even turns the touch pad into a mouse pad automatically. ...not really any messing around o_o Amusingly the PS4 controller is *better* on PC than it is on the PS4 with DS4Windows. You can adjust the back light to whatever colour you want, change the behavior/colour of the light to indicate battery life. You can remap the buttons away from defaults if you want to. Adjust the rumble strength. There's so many things you can change. Or you can leave the settings as default and it will just work.
99% of average people will never be hacked, especially on stuff so insignificant like skype. Two-factor verification/authentication is just an annoyance in the most part, and probably the main reason to introduce it is so that the companies can get your phone number and/or other credentials. I can see it being useful on important sites like steam or bank account, but even then it should only happen if there is suspicious activity (like logging from a distinctly different IP address).
That moment when you love open world and fell in love with Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim... Played maybe over fifty hours of it... *clears throat* Not like I was obsessed with it or anything... >.>
omg dat cam quality tho.. have i been watching in 480 this entire time? Something that confuses me about some pc gamers is that they constantly drone on about all these settings, drivers, ini file tweaks, mods etc. for making games run and look amazing yet those same people say they choose the xbox controller because it just works. If they were so interested in customizing every aspect about their experience why do they shy away from the dualshock? I've been using dualshocks on pc for years. Beyond controller feel and aesthetic preferences, if you're messing about with ini files, setting up a dualshock isn't that hard.
i understand what they are doing with FFXV and i kind of like it . i have got to the point in destiny where i have mostly everything and there isn't much to do and it gets really boring . so may be making it non open world is a good thing.
That kinda killed my interest in FXV. I haaaaated FFXIII so much. And after playing Skyrim and Xenoblade Chronicles X, I'm not really in the right mood for 25 hours of running down corridors.
Probably will only be the last couple chapters. They explained that as the story comes towards a close that the game would turn more linear which makes sense if the plot has escalated and no more time to hunt chocobos. That being said it will probably inform you like a lot of game where it will say. "complete any remaining quest, they will be unavailable once you begin this quest line"
Linear isn't always a bad thing. Bioshock, The Witcher 1/2, Dragon Age Origins/2, Resident Evil are all linear games and they all are good. And I think the linear part is only the end bit, not 25 hours.
lol, I so love that I'm not hyped for FFXV. And I say that as a huge Final Fantasy fan!!! And here's the funny part: I actually don't mind linearity in Final Fantasy games, open-worldness just doesn't fit their universe (and, no, previous Final Fantasy weren't open world, even with world maps, you still follow linear paths). So to me the fact that FFXV isn't as open-world as promised isn't a bad thing, but I'm pretty sure it will make a lot of hyped gamers a little sad or angry. I kinda find that funny! :p
For the FFXV open world story to linear story, I would be fine with it as long as they dont do what Grandia used to do (especially Grandia 2). At the end of Grandia 2, there was only one place you could go and everything else was blocked off. Sega CD Lunar 1 did that. You were stuck in Meribia at the end, no more exploration for you ever!
Open world does that to me too being too big and overwhelming or boring but sometimes I think it really works for me witcher 3 worked perfectly and kept me engaged even though it was giant. And this revere open world I feel would be bad losing your freedom doesn't sound fun Id at lest like a mass effect "hey if you do his mission the open world ends" warning
I think i figured out what is happening with Dodger. She plays to much Reaper so she is slowly turning from a nerdy colorful girl into a full blown Edge lord.
you only need to instal the sonys software for streaming to pc and you get the drivers for ps4 controller there. the streaming only works with ps4 controller. i can just plug my ps4 controller to my pc and play with it after i installed it.
My take on FF15 is that it's probably like an MMO with instanced dungeons. You will be out in an open world most of the times and will be in a linear story instance when going through a story. The game will likely be shorter than everyone thinks; disastrous if it turns out episodic. (well, disastrous is a strong word, but we'll see)
Haven't been watching your channel in a while. But I'd like to throw out a compliment. You are looking amazing in this video! The lighting and makeup and hair! Thumbs up!
Hopefully Sony gets a good response with their dongle thingy and decides to port over some of their exclusives. They already did it with Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, so maybe they'll do it again in the future.
If your computer has bluetooth capabilities, or even if you plug in your controller via microusb, all you have to do is download and install DS4 windows. No additional drivers, no addition set up. It works great. I'm sure Sony wants to have their OFFICIAL way to utilize the Dualshock controller, but it has been working like a dream for me. Juz sayin!
Re: open world - sounds vaguely like Mass Effect; that is, you have a linear experience in act I, then what amounts to a large open world act II, which channels you down into the act III linear endgame.
I maybe would have bought the dongle thing a year ago when I stil used my PS3 controller (and that's if the dongle had worked on the PS3 controller, pretty sure its safe to assume its going to work on only the PS4 controller). With the exception of a few non-steam games I use controllers on, I now use a Steam controller whenever I don't use my KB+M
the ps4 dongle will be good for more easily using the controller but hopefully for the ps4 dual shock adapter you can connect up to 4 controllers to one dongle otherwise you might aswell get a bluetooth dongle and mess with drivers cause you'll only need one bluetooth dongle to use 4 controllers.
Trying to make the dualshock 4 work on my pc want´t really that difficult but i do realize that for 25 dollars, it´s quite a temptation for many people. I would probably had bought it myself if it was available back then :)
Final Fantasy 13 did the inverse, which is why it's so troubling. FF13 was disturbingly linear. All the zones were almost completely straight lines and if they weren't a straight line they were just a continous single line. Previous games in the series haven't even been 'open world' like Skyrim or something but you had a degree of freedom to stop and go do other things between story moments. The worry is that once you hit a certain point in FF15 it's gonna be like the start of FF13 where it's just a non-stop train with no freedom.
I agree, storyline wise it made since but it burnt out quick. By the time I got to the "open world" part I simply did not care and also open world part was a massive open plain of nothing. I wanted to explore towns, cities, civilization ya know.
2 step verification(and security tokens, and one-time passwords) is a scheme to make you pay for something all over again (personal experience). Use ciphers for your passwords. There's a type for everyone, and most couldn't be cracked by supercomputers in a reasonable time. AND most of them will even make it EASIER to make passwords for other things and be easier to remember!
Just an FYI; PS3 controllers have been plug-n-play on the Mac for a while. PS4 controllers, not so much. But using the PS4 controller on the Mac with PS4 Remote Play works just fine.
Sorta glad FFXV will not be completely open world. Sorta lose a lot of urgency to do things if it's like, "They are destroying my home town, we must stop them!" And you turn around to go eat more sea salt ice cream or something.
Two-factor authentication is a pain in the ass... what you need to keep in mind of you choose to use this :: ALWAYS keep your information up to date; do not blame someone other than yourself if you forget to update your number/email/passwords and loose access to your account....
2 step verification, great nice and secure ... Except it fucks some of us, that live in places where there is NO PHONE SIGNAL. So for me, that is a major issue, and being forced to use it in some things, that ONLY has mobile phone as an option, means they lose me completely.
I see you with that Espurr shirt. Also, I can't be the only one who thinks she looks great with a hat on, can I? As for the Destiny Community, despite the hate, despite the issues we have faced with the game, we are just one big family of people that enjoy gaming. I salute them (Man, this was cheesy)
Uh, for the Dualshock, don't you just have to install that SCPTool kit for it to work? I don't remember having to mess with a lot of drivers or anything. It's nice that Sony finally released something official for it to work though.
please dooger stahp my eyes cant handle your prettiness
What???🙄
Cut them out
"Embrace your calling, Raziel. You will find that just as defiance has its price, so obedience has its reward."
Scoop them out with a spoon?

I've never seen a hat like that suit someone so well!
Call me a traditionalist but I don't like the sound of going open world into linear. It sounds backwards, and it feels backwards. The game should start out linear, then branch out into open world. Doing it backwards sounds terrible. They could surprise me, but given Squeenix's past 10 years, I doubt it.
I think it could help with the problem of the story ramping up for the end and then you just doing side quests.
But FF7 was that way as well. At a Point in the game you leave the open World and can only do the story
I like the idea because it might make for a better end sequence to the game.
Like open world-ness is good, but linear gameplay does allow for more control and better development of areas, allowing the devs to create higher quality content.

Silverleon I definitely agree.
Silverleon What are you replying to?
Dodger kind of assumed everyone knows what Miitomo is. I just looked it up. Guess it's some sort of social app that makes simplistic avatars of yourself.
It's linked to the wii somehow rite?
It was a HUGE thing for like...2 days...last year...
Sick beanie Doogs. I'm hyped to play whatever "bishounen roadtrip the game" ends up being.
I don't like two-factor verification with phone numbers because I don't like giving it out, I just don't want my number linked with everything I do online...
Do you have an old phone or an old sim card you can use just for the verifying?
+JimPlaysGames if I dig around I can probably find one, thanks for the suggestion I never even thought of that!
I don't use 2 step with social media, but having it for Steam, Battlenet, and the email addresses attached to them.
It just feels less secure when all my accounts get tied together and linked to my phone number as well as an email address but an abandoned one could be good
There are people who don't hate 2-step verification? Is this bizarro world?
Probably to do with the effort
People who don't want there personal life and online life to connect I would assume.
No most people hate it. But people being concerned about not having their account stolen (and personal information or bank credential stolen) see it as a necessary evil.and think it is probably for the best to use it when available
And yeah that it would be better if more companies having ties to your identity (financial or personal) would offer that to ensure better that your information stays "safe"

Well, youtubers need their accounts secure, their income depends on that.
+Yelmeister Soul hmmm no. Your is correctly used in there. You're would be personal.
+Yelmeister Soul oh sorry I thought you where correcting me
+Machi Nami I'm curious. Where are you currently at?
jordan78341 I agree that if it is an alternative, then it would be ok. But imposing it is awful. Why should I give my cellphone to Sony? Specially after their to major account hacks?
Machi Nami yeah i can't edit my comments through mobile for some reason
I'm so happy our community made it in the Gaming Newz! The good people in the Destiny community are amazing and it's super wonderful to be able to come together for good causes!
That's not a song. That's a bunch of people shrieking Miitomo. What.

Your makeup skills are improving! OMG. Dodger makeup tutorial would be awesome.
Dodger, just gonna throw this out here: look up the program Input Mapper - a single download that instantly fixes your dual-shock problems. I've only ever used a dual-shock on PC, because I haven't owned an xbox in 10 years.
holy crap thanks for mentioning this, just happened to see it scrolling... I have never found a good program to map mine, something's always weird
If it's really that easy it's probably more about awareness.
This.
There's plenty of people who don't know hos to use PCs.
what about ds4windows
Two things. One love the beanie. Two thank you so much for bringing us the gaming news and helping us smile
Oh god, Fez. Just brings back horrible memories of...that guy. >_>
I think what they meant is that when you get towards the end you get a point of no return dialogue. This is not uncommon and is probably just people misinterpreting it. You don't have to mess with anything to get a Dualshock to work. Install Inputmapper, plug the Dualshock in and done. Mad Max even shows Playstation buttons ingame. And via Bluetooth you can use it wirelessly.
it's not always compatible with all games even with that, i couldn't get dark souls to work with it no matter what i did
+Jeremy Comans can you explain it to me? id love to use it with a playstation controller
4:38 "And make yourself more secure" ~Dodger 2016
That green hat sets off Dodger's eyes perfectly.... Sorry what I meant to say was two-factor authentication is great and everyone should use it.
Even now, all I know about FFXV is that there is going to be one hell of a slash fandom. Also, your make-up is super cute today!
thanks for doing this awesome news show. A lot of stuff happens seeming all at one time, but I really appreciate having someone kewl keep me updated!
The thing with the XBox vs dualshock controller: To get an XBox controller working, you can't just use the standard XBox controller that came with the console. You have to go buy a new one that isn't wireless and plug THAT in. So that's another $35-40 right there.

Baller cat eyes, Dooger, plus c-c-c-c-ombo bonus with the matching beanie. Lookin good :)
Love the Hat Dodge and sound quality is so much better
my prediction: after the road trip you can freely travel the world and do optional stuff but you can just go straight to the next story point
I think it makes sense for FF-XV to become linear at certain story beats, I mean I am guessing it will open back into open world again in the post-game or it will do that thing that games do and place you back at the turning point.
I can't wait for autumn so I can start wearing hats like that again, right now it's just to hot.
I like the way you say "dongle". It partly makes me laugh, and partly makes other things happen.
the openworld in msg V was a huge turn off >_>
Yeah openness isn't always better. Dragon age origins was interesting to explore and areas were focused. Inquisition was big with a lot of empty space.
yeah...this sounds like a good idea actually
i don't mind open worlds, but on a game like mgs it killed it for me, but im sure ff15 is gonna be awesome
I think it was done pretty well actually. What didn´t you like about it?
MGS5 was totally fine with the open world.
Great choice of background music!
if you prefer non- x-input controllers you can use "360ce" (360 controller emulator) to automaticaly let it suggest emulation settings for your controller to fit the control scheme of an xbox 360 controller. 360ce then creates a modified xinput.dll that, if placed in the games folder (sometimes system folder as well on win10) allows you to use your controller.
Obviously this only works with games that use xinput.
Check the Logitech gamepads :) (F710 or F310) - They work just like XBOX controllers, but they use the Dualshock size & layout.
Skype does have 2FA, if you use your Microsoft account to log in instead of the legacy Skype account it will use whatever you have setup for your Microsoft account. Goto account.microsoft.com/privacy?lang=en-us click "More security settings". And there you will see Two-step verification.

9:19 Jeez, you really need to dial back on that savagery.
PS4 controller?
Install DS4Windows
Connect controller via usb or bluetooth
Done. Works with any game that can use an xbox controller. Doesn't cost anything extra. Even turns the touch pad into a mouse pad automatically.
...not really any messing around o_o
Amusingly the PS4 controller is *better* on PC than it is on the PS4 with DS4Windows.

at 2:30 min what book is she talking about?
I am suddenly aware of this kingsglaive that I need to watch. Thanks a ton for a cool and informative video. I am happily subscribing!
Your makeup looks really good, and I like the beanie.
Aww aww aww you look so cute with the green beanie, it makes your eyes even prettier
I'm liking Dodger's (intentional? Unintentional?) Link cosplay in this video. 😄
omg dat cam quality tho.. have i been watching in 480 this entire time?

I've played a few games that seem to detect the controller and doesn't display xbox style instructions if it's a generic controller
That kinda killed my interest in FXV. I haaaaated FFXIII so much. And after playing Skyrim and Xenoblade Chronicles X, I'm not really in the right mood for 25 hours of running down corridors.
At least it will be a pretty looking corridor.

That being said it will probably inform you like a lot of game where it will say. "complete any remaining quest, they will be unavailable once you begin this quest line"
From the sound of it the structure will be more old school FF; open world into final dungeon style.
Well, linear doesn't necessarily mean corridors so it's premature to start thinking that's what half the game will be.
Linear isn't always a bad thing. Bioshock, The Witcher 1/2, Dragon Age Origins/2, Resident Evil are all linear games and they all are good. And I think the linear part is only the end bit, not 25 hours.
3:55 Dodger gets possessed by Commander Holly.
does the ps4 dongle work for Dark Souls 3? cause using DS4 windows that doesnt work for me since I moved to W10
lol, I so love that I'm not hyped for FFXV. And I say that as a huge Final Fantasy fan!!!
No love for the TF2 i58...
50 hours of story, so basically 15 hours after you've watched all the cutscenes
My take on FF15 is that it's probably like an MMO with instanced dungeons. You will be out in an open world most of the times and will be in a linear story instance when going through a story. The game will likely be shorter than everyone thinks; disastrous if it turns out episodic. (well, disastrous is a strong word, but we'll see)
This is actually pretty good cuz now there can be more well made levels with less flaws
Thanks for reminding me about 2 factor auth! I read about it on the tube, so completely forgot by the time I got home :p
Haven't been watching your channel in a while. But I'd like to throw out a compliment. You are looking amazing in this video! The lighting and makeup and hair! Thumbs up!
Sweet video! Thanks for the updates.
Dodger with the green beanie and brown hair... Looks like someone has a new fav DBS character ;-)
The Dual Shock dongle needs to provide Xinput. That would solve all the problems with drivers and compatibility.
the ps4 dongle will be good for more easily using the controller but hopefully for the ps4 dual shock adapter you can connect up to 4 controllers to one dongle otherwise you might aswell get a bluetooth dongle and mess with drivers cause you'll only need one bluetooth dongle to use 4 controllers.
I thought she coloured her hair green on the thumbnail... That looked sick
What's the question marks under other channels?
2 step verification(and security tokens, and one-time passwords) is a scheme to make you pay for something all over again (personal experience). Use ciphers for your passwords. There's a type for everyone, and most couldn't be cracked by supercomputers in a reasonable time. AND most of them will even make it EASIER to make passwords for other things and be easier to remember!
We like to call that zone in open world games, the "No Man's Zone"
Also, I'm SO relieved.... sony releases a dongle. I loved the PS4 controller so much ;-;
I always have fun watching these news videos.
Wow. That make up. Very on point. 👌
Just an FYI; PS3 controllers have been plug-n-play on the Mac for a while. PS4 controllers, not so much. But using the PS4 controller on the Mac with PS4 Remote Play works just fine.
I used to use my Xbox controller wired on my PC buying the wireless dongle was the best thing I ever did well not the bluest but you get it
I like the idea of FFXV being half linear. Open world games usually suffer from the plot being lost in the open world stuff.
I did not know ff xv was open world until this news so im just more pumped for it.
Sorta glad FFXV will not be completely open world. Sorta lose a lot of urgency to do things if it's like, "They are destroying my home town, we must stop them!" And you turn around to go eat more sea salt ice cream or something.
Oh god no the miitomo song got stuck in my head too :< ... and I kinda like it
Two-factor authentication is a pain in the ass... what you need to keep in mind of you choose to use this :: ALWAYS keep your information up to date; do not blame someone other than yourself if you forget to update your number/email/passwords and loose access to your account....
2 step verification, great nice and secure ...
Except it fucks some of us, that live in places where there is NO PHONE SIGNAL. So for me, that is a major issue, and being forced to use it in some things, that ONLY has mobile phone as an option, means they lose me completely.
Yeah, I boycott anything where it's not optional, for the very reason that I often use stuff on the move and can't guarantee I'll have a phone signal.
Watch the backstory episodes on crunchyroll (not a paid promotion)
but they are really good if you wanna learn more about the main characters
for FFXV btw c:
+Dynesaurus no for spooder man XV
bad hair day? or GREAT hat day?
when did her eyes turn green??
contacts? there a thing
They have always been green.
Dodger is Link af in this video
No mention of Obduction? :(
"Protect yourself" - Dodger 2016
Thanks, dodger. Now I want a 10 hour loop of that miitomo song.
