    A little about me:
    Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
    Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
    He plays and teaches guitar on his TH-cam channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

    Enharmonic notes. When a B is called a Cb, etc. add that into the sus2 vs sus4 situation and I find myself needing electro shock therapy and psycho tropic drugs to restart my brain! So basically, a D suspended 2 chord can also be considered an A suspended 4 chord with a D in the bass. And an A suspended 4 chord can be considered a Dsus2 chord with an A in the bass depending on the key/context.

      On a related note, the Aadd9 fingered 542400 becomes a C#minor7 if you remove the root note on the 6th string, I.e. x42400.

    I always like to stare at a keyboard, even one that’s not plugged in, when I’m thinking about this stuff. A quick three or four second cut to counting out chords on keys might be worth it for explaining things, especially why B’s are flat and F’s are sharp and such.

    lost me when you talked about how the G7 and the c I get the dominant part so it's flat but why ... Is that because it's the five cord? Can you maybe elaborate on that in some other video please thank you

    • @Furdoggg
      @Furdoggg ปีที่แล้ว

      essentially... that's when you really need to get into understanding the modes. in the key of c: the c scale is ionian (I chord). the g scale is mixolydian (V chord). the mixolydian scale is identical to the ionian scale except the 7th note is a half step from the 6th instead of a full step. there is a lot of great theory and technique about pulling the individual scales out of the keys which is really helpful to understanding chord construction and intermediate music theory. hope that helps

      It’s about the 7.G-B-D-f.in the key of c,there is an f.in the key of g the seven is f#so look at everything from its major scale.G-B-D-F#,would be major 7 flat the 7 that’s how you get your dominant.they also call it a minor 7.because in g min the seven is f

    • @JESL_TheOnlyOne
      @JESL_TheOnlyOne ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Take a major scale, say C maj. There is one, AND only one note in that scale ('scale degree') upon which you can build a chord of 1-3-5-b7 with all four elements of the chord being diatonic in the major scale concerned, for instance C: ONLY G-B-D-F works as a 7th with a flatted seventh, where all of the notes of the chord are in the major scale concerned, e. g., C.
      D7? Nope, F# in the third. E7? No, G# in the third.
      ONLY G7 can work as a 7th chord with a flatted seventh in the key of C major.
      ONLY the the 7th built on the 5th scale degree of a major scale can fit the bill.
      When you hear G7, you want to hear C major very rapidly - it's one of the most very fundamental phenomena in Western music. That's why the V7 chord in a major tonality DEFINES the major scale with which it is associated. That's why it's The Dominant Seventh.
      Hope that helps. Once you see why, it clicks.

    I think you have great potential but skipping around between Key’s, numbers and Notes is a bit quick. A ton of great info just comes at me a bit quick. Maybe I need to learn more Key’s than C maj. When you say like a 7 or 11 sharp are you saying that note is a half step higher or it’s sharp because you’re in another Key. I get adding an 11th note. How do you start the process of being in another key because you jumped in to the Key of F for a second? Is it the note you start the scale with I know this is a bit basic and something maybe I should have learned 30 years ago. If you had some sort of visual aid like a shot of a white board with the scale written down along with the numbers I would benefit from it. Great vide I’ll have to check out your shorts

    • @randolphgallagher7942
      @randolphgallagher7942 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rajeshgumber363 I figured that out, but I don't know what progressions where a minor chord can be used as a 6th. Does the chord voicing matter?

    • @gtrdoc911
      @gtrdoc911 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What really matters is what the bass is playing at the time. E.g. an A, C, E triad with an A in the bass is an Am. If the bass player (or left hand on the piano) instead plays a C note with that triad, then you have a C6 chord.
