    Great point about E-clips. I get more confusion from people asking for the wrong part and complaining when they get what they literally asked for. Sometimes even suppliers are confused and back and forth ensues, even though the package clearly says what it is. Slang conquers all.

    i bought a Dual 704 in 1978 it was a great sounding turntable in the day the only thing i hated about it was that plastic head shell mount so i filled it with Blue Tack to increase the mass and it sounded better, even when i bought a Rega Planer 3 and my present AR Legend with Linn arm i still kept the 704 but 10 years ago my step son wanted a turntable so i gave him the 704 but he moved to Norway and i think he gave it away that's life i suppose, i was a massive fan of Focus their first 2 albums where fantastic, In and Out of Focus & Moving Waves are well worth a listen to

    Ooow i like the direct drive system, smooth and no fluctuations unless the control board has nasty capacitors.
    I've always called them circlips but e-clips and c-clips are a better discription :-).
    I liked your drifting off into madness, me and my frends are much the same lol.
    You are not the only person that's a bit mad, in a good way of cause :-D

    That is a DUAL made turntable? i always thought Dual was the bees knees in audio equipment! I have a Yamaha Direct Drive, not used it in years as everything is in the shed after moving. i hope I don't have to repair it as it looks like a solid lump of wood except for the holes drilled to put thing into. I have not tried to get the turntable off, but it looks as if it is part of the motor itself. I couldn't see how it came appart, but I wasn't trying as it is still working. But I have this brain that wants to know things, so was just going to have a quick peek, if you know what I mean?
    Anyway, I just started watching your videos just before the Covid virus hit and have found them interesting as this was the sort of things I used to do at the Man Cave bench.
    So keep the videos coming and I will keep watching :-))

    Thanks for this. I need to do a service on my 604, which has the same cue lever problem -- well, the height is good but the action very slow. Also am going to replace the Rifa safety cap which I hear is prone to fail. I'm pretty sure my 604 has tone arm return at end of record too, surprised the 704 does not. Perhaps a problem there in yours?

    I have a dual CS 620 that uses EDS 910 direct drive motor with a broken control board that's beyond repair. The motor appears to work but no matter what signal I give it cannot be controlled. Tried using PWM with Arduino but nothing seems to work as it speeds up beyond 78rpm.

They were not around here for very long, if I remember they were Dutch or German, I an just to lazy to see if I still have the record as it will be in the shed. • @BlankBrain
    @BlankBrain 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just curious - Why didn't you lubricate the motor bearings while you had it open?
    I'm going to rebuild my Sony PS-X75 turntable. I've purchased some expensive silicone grease for mechanical surfaces. I'll have to re-cap the PS because I've heard that the voltage can go up if that's not done. That in turn can blow the computer chip, which is not available anywhere. There are very sensitive coils in the Biotracer arm. Have you ever worked on one? If so, are there other things I should know? I read that one person was able to replace the control system with a Teensy++ 2.0, which runs at 5V. It took LOTS of programming.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you know I didn't do it.

    • @BlankBrain
      @BlankBrain 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@12voltvids I don't remember seeing it in your video, but I could be mistaken. It's my guess that you have to take the motor apart to clean and lubricate it. Since I'm a little nervous about doing that, I wanted to see someone else do it before I try. I wasn't being critical of your repair.

    My mother's turntable only turns when you press the 33/45 switch, and then only about an inch. I think it could be a problem with a leaf switch, but I am going to have to bring it to my house so I can keep diagnosing it and referring to the internet.

      I found that covering the clip with a dab of lithium grease helps keep it from flying away when you're trying to put it back on. It'll stick to the surface even if your pliers/screwdriver/finger slips off.

      I’m having the same issue, everything seems to cut out straight after moving the tone arm in , I’ve been finally trying to get my inherited 704 that’s been in storage for decades into shape so I can move it on, I’ve replaced the strobe and reoiled and cleaned some of the mechanism. But I’m going to try this method on this video today to see if that helps. It’s something to do with the timing of the switch and I’m hoping it’s an easy fix! If it works, I’ll let you know.

    Seems that E clip would be more appropriate. Other than WD-40, which is pretty useless BTW, the Mopar Rust Penetrating lubricant is one of the best (Crysler-Dodge). We also use some products from Crown, firm known for car rustproofing. Ever since they started to use Calcium Chloride on roads working with rusted parts that break became mechanics nightmare, you need to torch everything these days to get it loose without braking, eg. yesterdays K-frame on little over 10yr old Accord. So, yes it is worth rustproofing if done well.
    Chopin Piano Concerto on DG, really I love CDs and digital media. No thicks, pops, compression, no no bass and all the problems that go with Emil Berliner invention, still way better than the drum by Edison.
