This is an awesome video. 🔥👏 It answers so many questions, the comparisons and how to’s are so helpful and the footage of the panel is really nice too. Thank-you for linking to our video. I knew we should have included a dog in ours! Dope! Next time.

This micro panel is soooooo much better than the old one and has features that give us a glimpse of the future with Blackmagic panels - the shift up/shift down effectively gives us three times the functionality without more buttons or knobs. I have to give it three 👍👍👍

@@MrAlexTech Nice, thought I was the only one 😂 Was having lots of issues with 19 on Mac OS, installed latest, no more issues. 19 hates Ventura FYI, and since my shinny new color panel only works with 19, I was a bit annoyed. Also, have you noticed the speed editor powers on automatically without engagement on 19?

"Auto Color" button needs to become a programmable button. (or, at least) I would like it to become "Auto Label the selected node to it's first listed function".
BTW, with Speed Editor Blue Tooth connection issues while Davinci Resolve is already running, I have found that holding down the "cut" & "smooth cut" buttons for about two seconds will often solve the issue and/or a quick connect/disconnect of the USB cable will solve connection (most of the time) vs restarting Davinci Resolve (which can really mess up my workflow).
I have used a sharpie on the Speed Editor to label below the "cut" & "smooth cut" buttons a reminder that a two second hold will "reset" the Speed Editor, because it is easy to forget which secret key combos do what.

got it last week. I will say 2 things I dont like. one, I wish the top knob labels were backlit, and number 2 - as you mentioned, I was actually quite surprised that the ipad version didnt work properly, which I never heard mentioned. they made the thing with a slot for the iPad yet it doesnt work yet. personally I think they shouldve held out until it did, or at least make it VERY Clear it was still in the works. . I spent an hour trying to figure out WHY it wasnt working until someone on a forum mentioned it.
Lastly my bluetooth ALWAYS needs to be "forgotten" and set back up. never reconnects. Tip time: Hold the two shift buttons down and rotate the top left knob (Y lift)to adjust the backlight strength (found out by accident). also both shift keys and "offset" gets you to log. Thanks for the review, as always top notch. have a great Sunday my friend.

Yeaaah! I think it's purely because they aren't allowed to publish 'beta' softare on the app store (I may have also read that on the forum!). But yeah I agree, it should be made nice and clear.
Oh that's interesting. Mine got confused when jumping around devices but was okay when reconnecting to the same device. I figured my issues where because I was trying to jump between 3 devices in a short period of time purely for the filming of this video.
Oh great tip on the backlighting too!

This makes me think: I love the feel of real sliders and buttons when making music...because it makes me start to use my "ears" rather than staring at levels and settings and such. I wonder if it's the same for a color panel, you start to use your "eyes" more - rather than stare at the scopes and values. 😁 I'm going to have to try this one out!

Background: I'm a video editor but I'm getting into color so I've only been using davinci for the last couple of months and color grading for a few weeks.
That being said, I'm pretty happy overall with it. I've had mine for about a week and I really, really like it. It's small but really powerful and well built, and it has MOST of the features that the big boys have. It's intuitive and easy to learn. Working with wheels is just miles faster and better than using a mouse and keyboard. I think the idea is to have DITs and colorists be on set to actually see the design live. This can easily fit in a bag. There IS a learning curve, and the instruction manual is pretty useless...they need to just put out a keyboard map on one page showing what every key does...but it's been pretty easy to figure out what's what just by guessing.
Excited to fully learn it and get my muscle memory under my fingers and really up my color game.

Love my panel except for the panel auto powering on when starting davinci, I feel there should be an option to auto power ON when working in color tab!
Reason is because the panel battery drains when working in any other tabs e.g. cut/edit, so always need to have panel connected to power supply so it’s fully charged when I need to use. (So many times have gone to use it and battery flat)
Can everyone confirm color panel can only be used within color tab?? or am I missing something?
With Macbook, can’t disconnect panel from Bluetooth unless forget device. Seems to auto reconnects within 1-2 seconds.

  • @vivamoment

    Great video.
One question, when I rotate a trackball vertically (ie towards 12 o'clock), the white dot on the color wheel in Davinci moves up towards 11 o'clock, ie not straight up, but towards the left.
Similarly when I rotate the trackball straight down at 6 o'clock, the white dot on the color wheel in Davinci moves down towards 5 o'clock. It seems off by 30 degrees.
The same if I rotate the trackball left or right (towards 9 o'clock or 3 o'clock), the white dot moves between 8 o'clock and 2 o'clock respectively).
    This is with all trackballs.
Is this correct? It doesn't seem right. I assumed that the trackballs would directly correspond with the Color Wheels in Davinci on screen.

It’s not merely “designed primarily for DaVinci” it’s EXCLUSIVELY for DaVinci. I’d be more likely to buy this if Blackmagic opened up the device so that drivers could be written to use this as an input device in other applications like photo editing or something else (music production?). If the amount I deal with video declines or if something better than DaVinci comes along (difficult to imagine but possible) I don’t want this to become more e-waste.

    • @MrAlexTech
      @MrAlexTech  หลายเดือนก่อน

I don't believe I said primarily, I said specifically, as yeah it is only for Resolve. I'm in two minds, I can understand their stance. If someone makes a crappy app driver so it works in another software, but it's poop. People think the panel is poop, and that makes Blackmagic look bad. They can't possibly make the drivers themselves so it has to go out of their network, and out of their control. By keeping it within their network, they keep control and importantly quality control. Which goes a long way to uphold their image. Plus Resolve is only free as they've built a solid ecosystem of paid products around it, you start opening that up and you could potentially devalue it.
On the flip side... Yeah it'd be super handy to use it elsewhere 😄

I just got this. I got the colour panel working on 18.6, but then speed editor stopped working. Building a dedicated VE machine. Now colour panel doesn’t work on 18.6 on the new machine. Can be frustrating at times

Results will be the same, just in less time. I talked about this in this video. Also go see Darren Mostyn videos for full walkthroughs.

@@MrAlexTech yea, i understand that reault same. Im just about how fast it will be on real project from start to result)
Feels like same, cos you dont need to switch buttons to jump from temperature to gain rings and so one, you just click on mouse and use keys)
But anyway, this BM panels looks interesting and good))
Even if its only for home probably) cos if you have macbook, easier to grab just notebook and work anywhere, instead grab additional panel))

@@ZherebtsowI’ve been using mine a lot and normally you can only do one color wheel adjustment at a time. But with the panel I can move all three at the same time to find different color combinations that would have taken me ages if I did it one at a time

The functionality of the new one is better BUT it is noticeably much much lower quality. Every knob and dial feels floppy and cheap compared to the old micro panel.

While fair it's also priced in that range, next mini panel will be interesting tbh😅
