I'm getting ready to move away from Premiere and this video has solved almost all of my workflow migration issues up until now. I was able to migrate almost all of my presets by recreating them in DaVinci Resolve. Something still needs tweaking, but you helped me a lot with this video. Thank you very much.
Never ever was there a more perfect moment for this sponsored segment. I was just finished the assembly edit of a conversation with an AI expert and struggling to cut it down. Putting it into Gling gave me a first draft in a fraction of the time I could've done it. 👏👏👏 It's the first tool I've used that makes text based editing fun and usable.
It's good hey?! I was admittedly very skeptical, and only agreed to discuss the sponsor deal thingy after seeing a few of my twitter creator friends raving about it.
Alex really is the best TH-cam creator I've come across. Non stop learning with, no waffle. Watching him has made me so critical of many other TH-cam creators, to the point I'm shouting at the screen. My "GET ON WITH IT!!!" rant is usually accompanied by expletives, to which the voice from the TV room inquires "what's gone wrong now". 😂
I've been saving still frames from the color page, I'll have to try the save current frame as still frame option. (At 10:27 in the video) Thanks for the tip!
This is why im subscribed. Clear Audio and Explenations, Smooth video but still keeping personality and its enjoyable to watch. Thank you for all the Tutorials! For Audio Normalisation, TH-cam has the " Stable volume feature " and i think that is supposed to do just that, i never really hear a difference though. so i dont know
I've been wondering how to carry things to each project without having to reopen the project and copy and then paste into new project....Power Bins for the win!!!! Thanks Alex!!
We love you Alex, sorry i keep saying that but the amount of time i saved editing after watching your vids is unbeliavable, used to take me ages before, you made my life easy, never forget what a true legend you are my friend.
Great video Alex ❤ It was a nice refresher to check if I had all the shortcuts in place 😊 That AI thing sounds good, I'll have a look at the small print.
Great tutorial as always. I hope that one day there’s an easier way to quickly apply effects to layers on the timeline, but these will all help speed up my process.
Great stuff, Alex, as always. I waste soooooooooooooooooooooooo much time on every project by recreating the "basics". Keep 'um coming. Cheers, Chuck, over the pond in Northeast Florida.
Fun fact: You can use Power Automate Desktop to automate A TON Of video editing for you! Pair that with Cursor AI and you can create PY scripts that help you as well
Ohh I've heard of recut. I'm quite sceptical of these ai tools popping up but I've some friends on twitter who raved about it and it is actually pretty good! Certainly worth a try, especially for taking head vids.
Great content, I'll try to apply the push transition now that I've hit 1,000 subs!!!! ya me! thanks for all your help Alex, I''ve used many of your videos to learn how to edit.
Kind of unrelated, but the latest beta of DR Studio seems to have broken your Whip/Zoom/Spin transition pack. Is that now integrated into either the MAPro or MZPro products? TBH, I can't remember how it was originally bundled! Thanks for a great channel!
Is there a way to " mark " clips you have in your media pool and have already added to your timeline? I make a lot of digital decorating stuff for the holidays and 1 project is singing pumpkin's. So I have a bunch of clips of hollusion style clips in the media pool that all basically look alike. I find I waste time going back and forth trying to figure out which clips I've already used and which I haven't. If there isn't a way it sure would be a cool feature for them to add.
Davinci is marvelous until your system crashes bad and you lose your database. You know that crash always happens when you either forgot to export it or you haven't backed it up in the longest time. I wish it was a simple folder to save ...
Alex, are you using voice isolation (in the edit page) and audio normalization to take care of all your audio needs as opposed to compression and doing it all manually in fair light? When you say you still need to do things in the edit page, how are you handling audio levels there?
Sorry if I just deviate from the main topic and ask: why in DaVinci all projects by default start from 1 hour? Isn't it simply logical to start a new project from 0? Instead of going to settings and adjust the start time. May be there's some idea that I am not aware of? Does anyone start their projects from 1 hour on timeline?
Hey hey. It comes from the old film days apparently. Something that's just stuck in resolve. You can change the default within the properties to set it to 00:00 though 🙂👍
Have you tried a head to head with gling and Resolve's built in transcribing? I have found in the built-in, it will often put actual content into the "silence" section and cut it with the silence. I'm still not ready to trust ai for this.
I have a question sir. How do I save all these things in preparation for upgrading to Resolve 19 or any future incarnations please? I've tried unsuccessfully in the past to achieve this but failed miserably and had to redo/learn how to do it all again. Basically what needs to be done to backup a bombproof Resolve so that it can be used to get up and running in virtually no time?
Btw can you link me to a video you’ve done on make editing faster? I’m looking in particular for when you cut out a piece of video the now two separate tracks are instantly pushed together. I’ve also noticed that when making time lapse videos recently, when a spliced piece is then turned into a time lapse it will drag some of the audio from the continued clip forward to be included in the time lapse(I know you can lock each audio and video tracks individually but this is something that’s only started happening this year. It also drags some of the video where you made a cut to continue at normal speed to be also dragged forward into the time lapse. So when you move from time lapse back to normal speed you get a few seconds of watching the end of the time lapse doubled. That’s just something I’ve noticed in recent Da Vinci resolve editing. Hope that makes sense to you? (Running the latest 18 Resolve not the 19 beta)
Have a little read/search for videos on delete Vs ripple delete. That may help. I made a video about my shortcut keys I use to cut quickly here: th-cam.com/video/zJAbFvzVr-o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JMBaYVD6bZMBQuup
Is it possible to control the playhead function "stop and go to last position" in the fullscreen view in edit or color page ? Can´t set it ? PH plays always from the current position (during fullscreen)? In standard view it s all fine
I always have to disable proxies before I export a still, otherwise I get a rubbish shot at the proxy's res. It's not the biggest deal, but it'd save a few clicks if I could bypass the proxy like the main video render does. I use the same option you show, in the File menu. Am I doing something wrong? And also, do you have a license to open-carry those guns? 💪🏻
Curious, why do you start out with a 30pfs framerate but then when you go to render it's 29.97? Also, if you're exporting for TH-cam why is your resolution 4K?
Maybe my hands are growing out of the wrong place. I have beta19.5 and the preset is not saved as default. I have my own preset, I loaded it, clicked "Set as default preset"... and don't work, every time I have to load it again. I tried as in the video “Set current settings as Default settings” does not work.
I think you'd have to put the adjustment layer over the layer you want it to apply to and put anything you don't want to affect over it. That's just a theory though.
I'm trying to figure out why I would bypass a feature already available in Resolve (Audio Transcription) for an online service that essentially does the same thing? Am I missing some advantage with Gling?
Hey hey. Transcriptions are just in Studio so may appeal more to free users. But even for me, the main point is It cuts out bad takes. It will give you a rough cut straight away. Transcriptions lets you read and amend, but you do all that manually. So I uploaded a 20 minute video, and it cut out all my mistakes, giving me a 12 minute timeline. Probably saving me 30-45 minutes.
@@MrAlexTech Alright sir... I trust and follow your guidance (and channel). I'll give this a try based on your recommendation. I appreciate the time you spent answering my query. Keep up the good work!

You know there’s 100 tutorials on TH-cam on how to edit faster… Everybody’s so happy to edit faster. The problem is they should be more interested in editing better, not faster. Fast is meaningless if you’re editing sucks. How about editing more thoughtfully, more meaningfully. Fast is overrated. Is 50 bucks an hour why do I want to edit faster? Imagine Stanley Kubrick making the edit from the bone spiraling through the air to the spacecraft… Maybe it took him a while to figure that out. I suppose he could’ve done it faster. If you get my meaning.

A handful of the settings at the end chapter I don't have, specifically the audio tab. I'm assuming that's the professional/paid version?
Nope, that's all in the free version too. Try starting with h.264 master profile and all the options should be there

Nope. It's literally just a timeline, I believe it will open up into whichever local database/library you had open last.
