  • This is the ancient AMT/ERTL about 1/35ish scale model of Darth Vader's TIE Advanced, it's even older than me!
    I bought this on spec on eBay, was partially assembled but decided to upgrade it using the Bandai 1/72 version as a reference.
    Many nights were spent puttying, fixing seams and bad fit before "greebling" with lots of spare parts from my Star Destroyer build (1/700 and other scale ships), plus plenty of Evergreen styrene stock.

    I love that you took an iconic ship and mixed authentic design details with your own personal touches. I painted up my Hasbro TIE Advanced with totally unconventional gloss paint. I figured why not, and I'm thinking about trying my hand at remolding the hatch and cockpit window eventually. I love your addition of greeblies as well. Really catches the interest and shows up the surfaces.

      Thanks - I did something similar with my TIE kitbash recently, using the Bandai kits, much fun!

    Nice job! I had this kit many moons ago, but it disappeared into the mists of time. Resurrecting an old kit can be a lot of fun.

    When I watch your videos I feel like your talking directly to me. I'm expecting to hear "Joe" at the end of each sentence
    Looks awesome.....nice build

      Thanks for that Joe! I think I'm getting the hang of this talking to camera thing, I'm trying to do exactly that - just to talk to you mate! Cheers, Chris

    Great work! Glad you chose more visually accurate colours instead of leaning towards the blue tones. This is the way is see it on screen. Brilliant man

      Thanks - yeah I got a bit tired of seeing blue TIE Fighters everywhere, its like seeing blue Panzer grey all the time - although it can look visually good sometimes. I'm halfway through kitbashing a TIE Advanced 2.0 (essentially TIE Interceptor wings on the Advanced body), not sure if anyone wants to see that though....cheers Chris

    I'm writing this before watching the video because I'm too excited! I started this kit too! I did loooot's of modifications. But I also geve up trying to improve som ares too wrong to be fixed! So thank you for this video! I will check it frame by frame to see how you solved all those wrong parts!

      Well I hope you've watched it and have taken away a few ideas for your project. The main problem is getting the alignment right on the hull halves. My kit was already half assembled and I could never get the wings lined up properly either due to the poor alignment. Take your time on the internal parts either side of the cockpit pod or everything will be off! Good luck, Chris.

    Just a little hint: None of the studio TIE models were weathered, and also, the colour that closest matches the original is Tamiya TS-32 Haze Gray.

      I did mention the lack of weathering in the video I think? But its my interpretation, wasnt going for screen accuracy with this build....

    How many coats of gloss varnish do you use before brushing on the wash?

    What proportions did you use xf-83 and xf-19 on the first marble coat ?

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it was one to one for the marble coat Michal, hope that helps. Cheers Chris

    Awesome build, I have a similar one (not with the flight disk) in my stash.
    What's your mix ratio and pressure settings for the dull coat?

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steevels - I think I used about 50/50 with mr levelling thinner on the dullcote, about 20PSI, cheers Chris

      Thanks? I did say I chose my own colours. I don't really care what the on screen colours are like, this is my interpretation of what it could've looked like...cheers, Chris
