    I was lucky enough to be invited along to the launch of Triumphs new 2022 adventure sports motorcycle, the Tiger Sport 660. This is Triumphs first motorcycle in the middleweight adventure sports category, a category that is already dominated by the likes of Yamaha and Kawasaki. So join me as I ride some of the stunning roads in Portugal for this First Ride Review.
    A massive thank you goes to Triumph UK for making this video possible.

    I think aesthetically this is one of Triumph's best ever designs . Its difficult to make adventure style bikes look
    attractive as the function severely restricts form .
    To my eyes this is easily one of the best looking bikes in the class .... it flows really well and just looks right 👌

    Great review! If you're 5'8" and you get buffeting, at 6'1" that could be painful hehe This really looks like an amazing bike for the price (Don't see why anyone would choose a Versys 650 or tracer 700 over this...). But I keep hoping some day manufacturers stop making "comfort seats" as accessories and just make it the default seat. If someone wants an uncomfortable seat, they could pay extra for that :) The only downside of these Triumphs is the valve check schedule, Yamahas will go twice the distance before valves need to be checked.

    What is the current obsession with cruise control on bikes????
    Never had it, I see no reason to want it or to pay for the extra cost for it, sitting on a straight road with cruise control engaged is not my idea of motorcycling I'm quite happy to leave speed control to my right hand and go enjoy the twisty scenic routes.

    • @Thirsty_Fox
      @Thirsty_Fox 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not all roads are fun and twisty... lots are straight and flat. It's just nice to be able to rest your wrist for a few minutes at a time, or not have to worry about inadvertently speeding. Triumph already did all the costly work by making it ride by wire -- just toss in a button and some programming and it's a big selling feature for a tourer.

      Clearly Potty Pete has problems. Regardless. I’ve been riding for close to 40 years now, I’m a plumber and my shoulders and wrist are in very bad shape. Us older people who have beat up bodies need to rest our numb fingers and sometimes need to relieve that feeling every 20 minutes depending on speed, wind etc. with throttle by wire, expensive TFT dashes and at these prices it’s ridiculous not to have cruise control.

    I love that 660 triple engine but was never a fan of the Trident looks. These looks are nice, I really like that part. As many have said, if you're catering for a (light) sports tourer, CC, a better screen, having a centerstand would have been awesome.
    If only Triumph would do the the trifecta, also putting that engine in a sportsbike chassis, that would be awesome (like Aprillia have done with their 660). But not like how they built that ST RR.
    Highly doubt that will happen but one can hope.

      The 660 is more suited to the road but is smaller. The 850 can go off road but feels like it would cope better doing massive distances in comfort. Best bet, test ride both!

      Robbo. I'd recommend the Tiger 1050 sport over the 660 or 850.
      The 1050cc triple engine is an absolute peach, rider modes cruise control etc. A touch dated with an LCD dash, if TFT is important to you? And would be a 2020 model as no longer in production. It's also a great bike for carrying pillion and Givi luggage make it a great sport tourer.

    So they didn't completely ruin the engine by switching to a flat plane crank on the 660, as they did with the 850, 900 and 1200 series? The 660 sound glassy smooth and refined. Maybe it's just because has a quiet exhaust, but it sure sounds clean and refined. OMG the 660 sounds so awesome... Ughh. I wish they had not ruined that beautiful triple scream by making the larger bikes into "flat plane" crank engines. The bigger engines sound lumpy and coarse in comparison. This video is pure music. That 660 engine is heavenly!

      The Tiger Sport has no off road bias, so if you want dirt riding the 500X is the bike to choose. However, the Tiger Sport 660 is the better road bike, but it is also more expensive too.

  • @robhall5622
    @robhall5622 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great review, and a lovely bike, but once you start speccing it up it's a very short hop to the Tiger 850. Do you think the 850 is worth the smallish differential, or does the 660 now make the 850 a bit redundant?

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't forget you'd also need to spec the 850 up so that gap in price would persist. The 850 is a different bike, big front wheel that can go off road (it comes with road/dirt tyres) and it's a much bigger machine. I see them occupying different spaces in the market so room for both. The 660 was much better doing pure road riding and isn't designed with any off road ability.

    • @robhall5622
      @robhall5622 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Englishbikerdan Good point on the size difference, hadn't noticed the 850 was significantly longer, although the lower seat as standard and similar weight suggest (on the spec sheet at least) that they might be similarly approachable. Will have to ride them back to back next year.

I think Triumph made a big mistake there. It will sell well but could have sold a lot more if cruise control was offered as an option.
