  • I learnt to snowboard in Val Thorens 14 years ago... On my trip back that had me thinking about what has changed and whether Val Thorens is a good place to learn to ski or snowboard?

    I'm now 59. I first went skiing in 7 years ago in VT. I have been to several other resorts since but we always come back to VT. Was there 3 weeks ago :-)

      Nice, I’m glad you’ve found a resort like VT that you enjoy enough to head back to visit. What is it that keeps bringing you back?

      @@SimonjburgessWe like exploring new places for example we went to Cortina Jan 23 however we waisted 2 days finding our way around so did not get any real serious skiing done till day 3 same with Wengan. What is nice at VT is arrive Saturday ski all day Sunday knowing exactly where to go and where to eat and drink in the evenings. Don’t get me wrong we are still finding places to eat and drink and still loads of slopes to try for example still not been to the 4th Valley. But it’s nice to revisit old spots and slopes as well.

    I'm 67 and am learning to ski at Chill Factore at Trafford Park, when I'm comfortable parallel skiing down the main slope, I might try Val Thorens next season.

      @@Simonjburgess I'm now getting used to the sensation of skiing - two lessons so far, and am now at the top of the beginner slope, which is apparently a mild blue in gradient. I'm trying to do the lessons in tandem with the beginner and then intermediate lessons on the SKNG ski school app.

    Good video mate. I always thought the VT run through the middle of the resort was a disaster waiting to happen. Several steep vertical runs coming from mountain bars merging into one funnel with beginners trying to learn in the middle.

      I know, really daunting that run, even as someone with experience there were times that navigating that was an accident waiting to happen!

    Thanks for the video Simon, is Val Thorens any good end of April? Thanks

    • @Simonjburgess
      @Simonjburgess  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Emre, personally I’ve never been there in April. But Val Thorens closing date this year is due to be May 5th. As one of the higher resorts in Europe it should maintain decent snow in April.

    I've been skiing and am stuck at timid intermediate as eve always been to resorts that challenge my kids who are excellent skiers - - what would recommend as THE BEST resorts in Europe for ideal progressing slopes - green up through to red? great videos!!!

    • @Simonjburgess
      @Simonjburgess  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hey, thanks for watching and your comments. Awesome that your kids are progressing well! It will be hard to narrow to one.. but here are some options that should suit your whole family. Flaine and the Grand Massif, lots more videos coming soon from here. Really think this area has a lot to offer. Ponte di Legno Tonale, good range of terrain. Grimentz / Zinal - lots of nice intermediate trails but also has more challenging slopes as well. If you can head outside of Europe, massive soft spot for Marmot Basin and Sun Peaks in Canada. Perfect family resorts with a great mix of terrain. Hope that helps

    • @joshf2719
      @joshf2719 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      thank you! What would you say would be ideal, if i was going alone, no kids. No advanced terrain needed? Just the beginner and lower intermediate blues?

    • @Simonjburgess
      @Simonjburgess  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If those were my requirements I’d consider Les Carroz/Morillon in the Grand Massif. Similarly, Vercorin from my Magic Pass playlist is well worth a shout.

    Just secured next seasons magic pass, there adding more destinations, and you only have a few days left to get it for the 399 franc... you going for it again this year? If so, maybe I'll see you on the slopes next year.

      @@Simonjburgess everywhere I can really. I have two 3 year olds, so its mainly daily runs except when we take week vacation in Lukerbad. Les Diablerets and the surrounding area is definitely on my list.

      @@Simonjburgess yeah man, we go every year with family. By the chalets in the village... the kids section is just a walk across the street. They also have an extended area above that, but its nothing fancy. Up at the resort is an amazing place. There is also a kids school at the top of the gondola ride for kids, and plenty of runs for adults, ranging from black, to blue runs. Lets not forget the bath in Lukerbad... don't quote me on it, but I think its the biggest outdoor/indoor pool in Switzerland. Its atleast 3 floors of enjoyment, both indoors, and of couse outdoors. I highly reccomend. You also have surrounding resorts to see if you are based anywhere close, like Nax for example.
