Where is that slope? Going to Flaine this friday
This is actually in Grimentz in the Val d’Anniviers
That rock could be avoided 😊
😂 Good to know
It's strange because other non-mainstream brands like Vallon and Chimi offer additional Zeiss lenses. To me it's a deal-breaker so I'm waiting for a Chimi pair to arrive; they're slightly more expensive but also look slightly better designed.. Will see!
I ordered myself a chimi as well. And they seem to be legit. Will see.
Would love to hear your feedback on them when you’ve used them?
Would be interested to hear how you find them once you’ve used them?
@@Simonjburgess Will do, I don't have as many alternatives to compare them against as yourself! My main requirement is to cover all light conditions, so I will test in Jan and let you know
Ig where you at
I’m on the lift 😂
I have been skiing since I was 2 years old, and was afraid of the ski lift (both button and t-bar) until 10, when I had to use it😂 2 years later, I have been loving to use the ski lift, it's fun lol😂
Glad you mastered it! Where you heading to ski this year?
Gotta love an empty resort. Looks awesome!🤙
Honesty, was such a cool find and a completely different vibe to main Hakuba
Love Flaine. Totally awesome resort ! great and varied runs and snow always better than elsewhere. i really dont even mind the buildings, France has some worse purpose built resorts, like Bellecote in La Plagne and LE Plagne Central etc. i like all the shops conveniently laid out at the bottom. all is there in one place. and the lifts are all well laid out and fairly modern. great resort.
@@jimbosaul3996 agreed such a cool resort. Thanks for watching the video and sharing your thoughts on Flaine. Do you have any trips planned for this winter?
Probably my favourite place in the Alps. I hang out at Les Mosses / La Lecherette in my motorhome for a couple of weeks every two month long Magic Pass trip. There are only drag lifts and I do over 100 miles on my board during a week stay but it is sheer joy.
It’s it great! Perfect place to pull up in a van and be at the base of the slopes! I’m looking forward to heading back this way in Feb
Tbh, just order them from Tao Bao, they are selling for about $100 USD. Sure you have to pay shipping, but it’s still cheaper than buying from the oversea website. They are literally from Chinese brand that’s made in China, seems like they got good reviews from the locals though.
Good advice. I’m looking forward to trying them for the lenses. Hoping they are a good comparison to the Sonar.
Hi I am skiing here on Sunday is this all still open?
This was filmed last season. I doubt it will be open this early in the season. Have a great time in Flaine
@ any good ski run recommendations for expert skiers ? and is terrain good recently great videos btw
I haven’t been in the resort yet this winter so wouldn’t want to report on terrain. The website should give an indication as to what is open. If the conditions are right, the area close to Diamont Noir is a favourite for me. Thank you 🙏
I got the falcon through amazon and then found out it does not come with the black semi-hard shell case. Emailed them for that, took them multiple emails and couple days to even direct me to the customer service rep and is still asking me for the order number for verification, and they could just simply said that they do not come with the case anymore, and by that time I already returned it and landed a huge better deal on a pair of SPY Marauder. It was quite disappointing because I know they were still shipped with the cases in May 2024. Clearly the decision is to reduce the cost, but it is taken away one of the wow factors. And then I also found out that consumers can no longer purchase replacement lens for the falcon except for the yellow and green lens, which defeats the own purpose of having the interchangeable lens system. They have all these line-up for different VLT %, but then you cannot get different lens unless you are getting another goggles, then what's the point of having a changeable lens? For all those reasons, after I found the deal on a pair of SPY Marauder on sales for the exact same price as the falcon, then it was a no brainer for me to switch.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Really sorry you’ve had a rough time with OM. The Spy Marauder is a cracking goggle, I’m glad you were able to find a deal on them!
@@Simonjburgessit’s very unfortunate that outdoor master decided to take away the elements that differentiate them from other budget brands. I was very excited but unfortunately those were my deal breakers.
It’s fair enough, thank you for sharing your experience. I am sure others will find it useful to hear.
Thanks for the video! With all the paid reviews out there for this brand, It's refreshing to hear a few negatives, as well as the positives, so that consumers can make an educated decision. Looking forward to seeing the view through the Zeiss lens, assuming you'll wear them on the slopes this season. Also, a review of how the Zeiss (and competitors) contrast tech compares to OM's own tech would be interesting. Cheers, simon!
@@A7XxABxRD thanks for watching and leaving your comment, I really appreciate your take. I always try to be honest and open about products as it would suck for me to say something positive just for the sake of it and for viewers to buy a product and then hate it when on snow. I’ll certainly be trying them on snow this winter and I’ll be sure to make some comparison videos. Thanks again!
i use the googles and they are just the best i ever have!!!you just talking deep shit!who is paying for you're stupid revieuw??
Lovely video, noticed it’s rather quiet for new years time? Is this normal and also was the snow like on average at new years? Thanks.
Flaine was busier than the villages last new Year, but way less so than other French ski resorts. Being in Morillon was fairly relaxed which was nice. Snow looks very good this year seeing the socials!
Im left footed so do I keep my left foot on the strap?
@@6elchapulin914 hey, if you ride with left foot forward then that is the foot you leave strapped in! Good luck 🤞
@ thank you sir
Always have a backup pair. This happened to my SPY Marauders
Damn, sucks about your Spy goggles and spare is def sound advice
But 200 on a google is crazy in my oppinion
Especially these days… lots of decent options available for well below that
Excuse me! What's the gondola called!? 😅😂

Wonder if they make POW days more likely 🤔
Imagine that they are the answer to bad snow days…. A cheat code!
Pow powster? Something about that name makes me happy
It does give a good feel doesn't it. I also think the look is really nice. Looking forward to trying them on snow!
I am interesting buying these and very happy to see the pop in Sport RX prescription in serts in there. How do those work ? Any fog or distortion happening with them ?
@@Mr.Steve-O they’ve worked well for me. I think the key is not messing with them. Put the goggle on with the insert in and leave them on. If you keep lifting the goggle on and off this is when the fogging seems to happen. If you are in the UK you can grab the Spy Marauder on sale on sportpursuit.com
Hey Simon Great video ... absolutely loved your snowboarding and the helpful info. The scenery is stunning! Which month did you visit please?
Hey, thanks for watching and the kind words. This was filmed in late Dec / early January. You planning on heading to Leysin this winter?
baller
Great video. I've been eyeing these goggles, but I just never knew what color to go with.
@@ksang0013 thanks! Well I hope this video has helped you to make a decision. They are great value for money… remember you can save further 15% with the code. 👍
Saying that current Black Friday deal maybe better ✌️
Thanks Simon!
@@SAS-by4bt welcome 🙏 … you heading to Flaine this winter?
@@Simonjburgess Yes I am! I'm struggling to find a snowboard instructor from Dec 28th to Jan 2nd.
Ah yeah it’s a busy time. I’m sure the ESF will have instructors available. Maison Sport also a good resource for independent instructors. Good luck!
Awesome mate thanks, wish everyones resort reviews were as good and detailed as this...
@@marcusherringshaw3115 really appreciate you saying that. You planning on heading to Flaine this winter?
If I heared correctly, you've mentioned waxing price in Grimentz. Well, even in non mountain town (i.e. Lausanne) the waxing price in 'local shop' is the same:) only cheaper place is Decathlon, where they will do it for ~40. On the other hand, in ski town in France, you can do it for 15 euro..
@@bHacklv yeah, in the UK about £30 is the norm I’ve found. Maybe £40 to repair lots of damage with Ptex. Note to self… remember to bring my own stuff on each trip 😂
Going 2b booking that trip, thanks for the review.
@@danshima5417 mate you won’t regret it. Let me know if you get any more questions about Flaine
Going to Austria next month😅

0 Carving only sliding.....0 Skill sorry.
100% fun. Thanks for the critique ❤️
Looks pretty fun to me indeed. Nice vid mate.
I do
Meet you there
Where do you go
Try to mix it up, this year I’ll be in Switzerland. where do you ski?
Sup, would you suggest any specific ski resort within Europe for beginners? Or are they pretty much the same on that notice@@Simonjburgess
Some definitely better than others. I learnt in Val Thorens which was great for me. Depending on budget as well, there are many cheaper places to learn to ski where you don’t need the extensive area. Bulgaria, Andorra, Slovenia worth considering if you don’t want to pay mega bucks
@@Simonjburgess I ski in Minnesota yes Minnesota snows but the last time 2 years we had basically no snow are resort shut down for about to weeks and when it’s opened almost all of it was slush
Damn, slim pickings it seems. Hope you getter a better snow year! What’s your resort called?
I wish! I'm going to go snowboarding for my first time soon! I'm so excited!
That’s so exciting! Where are you going?
I would if I could stay up strait on my snowboard
We can solve that I’m sure!
I do, i do!!!!!!!
Super Troopers?
Let’s go.
I couldn’t agree more! Been skiing Grand Massif from Samoens for over 20 years fortunately now in quieter times of year. Love the village and the skiing but so frustrating. Crazy decisions by lift company. I think Colouvrier was all or part financed by Club Med but it’s a useless piste on my view. Too steep annd narrow and often icy as always in shade. Often too low for good snow. Need Chariande 2 back as you say which will also relieve the pressure at the top of the narrow mogully dreaded Pierce Neige. And there are also problems in Les Carroz. They took out two lifts from the Molliets bowl meaning everyone now has to ski down to the Molliets to get the lift back up to Tete de Saix to return to Samoens or Morillon creating congestion and an over skied mogulled piste. They took out the lift from Morillon up to T de S when they built Colouvrier meaning if Coulouvier is closed then to return to Samoens from Morillon again you need to ski down to Molliets. If they put a drag from the top of the Carroz Gron to the top of the Molliets you could at least get back to Morillon as an option to avoid the bottom of the Molliets. All in all a bit of a mess and small improvements could really help congestion and reduce avoid over skied pistes. And now from December they’re going to charge to park at the GME. We often drive to ski from Morillon despite being based in Samoens. We’re likely to do that even more now as are others. Samoens doesn’t seem to care!
@@JennyEngland-k3x thanks for sharing your views, and honestly I’m glad I’m not the only person feeling this way. The village of Samoëns is so nice and a great base for a ski holiday. The lifts are definitely in need of some revision to return the ski area to a functioning area. Love your suggestion for a short drag back from Gron to Molliets. This would be so useful. I do hope the lift company can see our suggestions and at least give them consideration
@ thanks. Another niggle is they quote I think 265km of piste but that includes Sixt that is barely open for two months on a good year and even then half the pistes are closed and the chairs are ancient. And why do GM not offer individual village passes and only 4villages or all GM. Beginners want to progress from debutant but not necessarily to Carroz or Morillon. We spend more time in Samoens in summer now but still love the skiing on a quiet blue sky day, despite the frustrations ⛷️
Yeah a local pass would be a good idea. Especially for beginners who aren’t going to be heading further afield.
maybe it's only me but i feel like all those lens color are kinda just a gimmic I'm not a google user I use my basic sun glass cat 3 with a brown tint but If i would buy google I would want them to be tinted in a neutral color So probably the heavy black tinted one sunny day and a clear one not tinted for bad weather night ect
I’d say you should get out and try them that’ll be the best way to judge. Especially lenses with blue light filtering now which really can make the snow pop. If you don’t like… fair enough. The black lens is least useful for me. Great for sunny days but even on sunny days parts of the resort are usually in shade for a period so better to get a mid all-around lens. As for the storm days or night skiing. Clear lens can be great, but I’m a big fan of a yellow tint. The chromapop storm yellow flash is best I’ve tried in bad conditions. Nobody however really needs a full lens range like above. If you want simplicity look for a decent photochromic lens, kill all the birds with one stone.
Very similar tech to welding masks... it's obviously much easier to maker it smaller and even flexible now
Didn’t realise that. Thanks for sharing that info.
