The first knives I tried to make were like this. I had an old two man crosscut saw. I cut 5 sections out for fillet knives. The first one I caught the tip in the belt grinder and destroyed the blank. The second one I tried to grind out the pitting in the blade and the spine was too thin. The third and fourth ones I ground the pitting out and I put quarter sawn sycamore on for the scales. It's a little soft but a gorgeous grained wood. The last one I soaked in Evapo-Rust then ground enough to get bare metal but I left the pitting in it. I cold blued it. It makes a distinctive blade with lots of character. That steel is some of the hardest steel I've ever tried to drill. I gave up trying to drill 3/16" holes and drilled 1/8". Still took forever to get through.

I did a double temper. Usually 1.5 hour cycles.
